Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF2 left at 12:18, with arrival in SYD estimated at 22:40.
That's very interesting - I presume OQJ (QF2 delayed) is not turning around to operate tonight's QF1 as that is currently showing as leaving at 21.00. Given there is only one A380 on the ground in SYD at the moment and that's OQB, this must be the bird operating today's delayed QF1.

However, I was under the impression that OQB may have been rotated into maintenance to commence its wing spar checks and remediation (replacing OQK) so if that's the case, things are going to get interesting tonight.

wenglock.mok, when I checked a few hours ago:

VH-OQB had been in SYD since 0656 this morning, Friday 16 December 2022
OQD was on 'the 11' SYD to LAX
OQH was on QF1 and due to arrive at 0658 hours at LHR, 43 late
OQJ of course is on the hugely late timetabled Wednesday 14 ex LHR QF2 coming into SYD very late tonight
OQK is on Thursday 15's QF2 ex LHR running about 90 late, en route to SIN

So yes you are correct re OQB operating the delayed QFi tonight, I believe.

I was overseas until very recently and hence haven't caught up with all the news of the last two months, but wasn't QFi planning to return a sixth A380 to passenger carrying service 'prior to Chirtsmas' or 'during the January 2023 school holidays'?

Continuing with Friday 16, QF1 (1700 hours SYD-SIN-LHR) took off at 2135 with A388 VH-OQB. It should arrive SIN at 0217 hours, 247 minutes behind schedule.

789nerd highlighted how 'the 10' was to run late.

It has, but worse than predicted: it is suggested as arriving PER at 2247 hours, 622 minutes late, and must then eventually proceed nonstop to MEL. B789 VH-ZND is the aircraft.

The shockingly delayed QF2D (A388 VH-OQJ) landed in SYD at 2246 hours on Friday 16 December so by the time it gets to its gate it'll be 1001 minutes late.

QF25 (A333 VH-QPB, the 2135 hours SYD-HND) had departed, but was yet to take off as at 2248 hours.

Saturday 17 December 2022 finds B738 VH-XZB on QF123, the morning 0710 hours SYD-ZQN. It did not become airborne until 0908 hours so arrival at gate should be around 1347 hours, 97 minutes tardy.

The delayed QF1 with A388 VH-OQB from last night was in SIN from 0227 until takeoff at 0420 this morning, so LHR arrival looks like 225 minutes late at 1000 even.

Continuing with 17 December, A388 VH-OQJ on the 1120 hours SYD-LAX QF11 is suddenly delayed to at least 1230 hours in pushback.

QF23 (1030 hours SYD-BKK) took off at 1120 hours with A333 VH-QPC estimated to arrive 61 late at 1711 hours, so winds must be adverse. QF24 back will be unable to depart at its scheduled time.

UPDATE: QF11 was in the sky at 1341 so LAX suggested at gate arrival become same day, 0739 hours, 89 minutes behind the timetable.

QF19's expected departure has blown out to 1345, although that was five minutes ago.

The A332 on QF43 (1635 hours SYD-DPS) is expected to depart two hours late on Saturday 17.

QF1 was earlier displaying as 'on time' is delayed by at least 40 minutes to 1745 hours from SYD in pushback on Saturday 17.

QF19 has A332 VH-EBP, not the usual A333, with take off occurring at 1400 hours. MNL arrival should be at 1851 hours, 81 late.

On Sunday 18 December 2022, QF63, the 0935 hours SYD-JNB with B789 VH-ZNG took off at 1111 hours. Estimated at gate arrival becomes 77 late at 1552 mid to late afternoon.

A388 VH-OQD on QF1 should arrive LHR at about 0650 hours, 35 minutes tardy.

QF2 this morning into SYD had OQH, arriving 58 late at 0708 hours. Satuirday 17's QF2 (OQB) was airborne at 2246 hours so Sunday 18 SIN arrival is forecast as 1836 hours, 66 minutes behind the schedule.

A332 VH-EBP arrived SYD 92 minutes late at 0747 hours as QF20 ex MNL, and then took off with QF67 at 1037 hours (against a timetabled 0930 hours pushback), so BLR arrival at gate should be about 1634, 49 minutes past the allotted.

Colleague VH-EBE was on QF41, the 1355 hours SYD-CGK yesterday, in the sky at 1541 for arrival at 1857, 87 minutes late. It returned overnight as QF42, arriving SYD this morning 51 late at 0701 hours.

B789 VH-ZNB is on QF10 ex LHR that should be at its PER gate this afternoon an hour late at 1325 hours, delaying the onwards second sector across to MEL.

In more on Sunday 18 December, QF23 (1030 hours SYD-BKK, A333 VH-QPF) was not in the sky until 1202 hours so expected arrival is 1725, 75 late, meaning the 1810 hours QF24 back down to SYD will be tardy.

A flight that in the last couple of weeks has been far worse, QF19 (1225 hours SYD-MNL, VH-QPB) was airborne at 1335 for mooted arrival at 1817, 47 behind.

Also on 18 December, QF41 (A332 VH-EBC, the 1355 hours afternoon SYD-CGK) was in the sky at 1439 so arival should be at approximately 1800 hours, half an hour late. The aircraft had been in Sydney since 0934 this morning after arriving 184 minutes late on QF44 ex Bali's DPS.

On Monday 19 December, QF138 (first of the morning at 0605 hours from CHC across to SYD, B738 VH-XZC) has had a tardy start, not becoming airborne until 0900 hours. SYD arrival should be 1007, 152 minutes late, so depending on its roster, this 738 could run late all day.

A333 VH-QPE on QF26, the 2200 hours Sunday redeye from HND to SYD was airborne at 2258 so Monday 19 arrival at gate should be 1024 hours, 34 late.

QF1 with VH-OQK (A388) should arrive LHR on Monday at 0656 hours, 41 minutes tardy. OQB on the opposite direction's QF2 was at its gate in SYD this morning at 0708 hours, 58 late. Since 11 December, not one QF2 sector has arrived in either SIN or SYD less than half an hour late with most being more than an hour late, and in one case noted above more than 16 hours late.

B789 VH-ZND on 'the 10' from LHR to PER should arrive today at about 1257, 32 behind.

A333 VH-QPB arrived MNL on Sunday evening at 1850 hours, 80 minutes late but the return QF20 is far worse, with takeoff of this 1920 hours flight not occurring until 0026 this morning, so SYD arrival won't be until about 1058 hours, 283 minutes behind. This may be forming QF81, the 1230 hours lunchtime SYD to SIn as it's delayed to an expected 1400 hours this afternoon in pushback.

Colleague VH-QPF on QF24, the BKK down to SYD redeye has a smaller delay with arrival suggested as 0806 hours, 36 late.

On Sunday evening, VH-QPJ on QF103 (2040 hours SYD-HNL) took off at a much delayed 2302 so with the significant time difference, Sunday arrival is estimated as in about 12 minutes at 1113 hours, 108 minutes late, delaying QF104 back.

Continuing with 19 December 2022, QF21 (1400 hours MEL-DFW, B789 VH-ZNF) was in the sky at 1516 so 1336 (same day) is estimated arrival, 51 late.

B738 VH-XZC that was badly delayed this morning in from New Zealand (see above) then operated QF179/QF180 SYD-NLK and back, arriving the latter at 1453, 38 late but estimated to arrive back in Sydney this late afternoon at about 1741, 51 minutes behind schedule.

QF41 (1355 hours SYD-CGK) is again late, with pushback not predicted until 1700 this afternoon.

'The 1' from SIN to LHR should arrive this morning (UK time) at 0722 hours, 67 late.

Monday : QF12 LAX-SYD (B789 VH-ZNA) has been showing as 45 minutes delayed, for a revised 23:15 PST departure, however that time has passed. The aircraft did appear on FlightRadar24 earlier, positioning to the gate.

Also on Monday 19, QF81 that was supposedly delayed by 90 minutes to 1400 hours in pushback ended up taking off at 1435 with A333 VH-QPB. Arrival should be 1929 hours, 99 minutes late.

This will at least slightly delay the 2005 hours QF82 redeye back down to ye old Sydney town.

QF104 from HNL should arrive in SYD tonight at 2106 hours with A333 VH-QPJ. This would be 146 minutes behind the timetable.

Tuesday : flow on from the QF12 delay, saw QF27 SYD-SCL (B789 VH-ZNA) depart Sydney 51 minutes late. With an eastbound flight, it will make up time into Santiago, currently showing as 35 minutes late. While this will eat into the 2 hr 45 min lay-over, the return QF28 should be able to depart on time.

Continuing with Tuesday 20 December, QF104 from HNL to SYD has A333 VH-QPE and should arrive at gate at 1928 hours, 48 minute sbehind schedule.

QF1 (1705 hours afternoon SYD-SIN-LHR) was in the sky at 1804 with arrival at the intermediate stop expected 36 late at 2246 hours.

QF71 is as noted above normally punctual but has been delayed on a few recent occasions, with today's (A332 VH-EBE) taking off at 1415. Suggested at gate arrival in SIN (ex PER) is 1919 hours, 154 minutes behind schedule, so QF72 back down to Perth WA will be tardy. There's no obvious reason for the delay as the aircraft had been in PER since 0047 local time this morning, ironically arriving as QF72.

A388 VH-OQK on QF2 ex LHR should arrive tonight at about 1832 hours, 62 late in Singapore, so it'll be late into Sydney tomorrow morning.

If FR24 is correct, 'the 9' appears to only be operating between PER and LHR tonight, not MEL-PER-LHR.
