Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Wednesday :
This mornings QF27 SYD-SCL (B789 VH-ZNA) was 41 minutes late pushing back at Sydney. A quick taxi saw it in the air 13 minutes later. Revised ETA into Santiago is 11:24 CLST, 29 minutes late.

Tuesday's delayed QF93 MEL-LAX (B789 VH-ZNB) eventually took off from Melbourne at 11:41 AEDT this morning, a day & 41 minutes late. The flight is expected in Los Angeles a day & one minute late at 06:21 PST Wednesday.

QF19 on Wednesday 4 January (A333 VH-QPI, 1225 hours lunchtime SYD-MNL) was airborne on 1316, so at gate arrival should be at 1800 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

this service is finally getting back to a reasonable schedule after a couple of days with severe delays

QF1 departed SIN 0030 (35mins late) scheduled to arrive at LHR at 07:30 (75mins late) guessing they didn’t press the go faster button, unsure how long they need to turn around a 380, but may affect the proposed 0900 departure for the delayed QF2…

As I stated above, from observation it appears a typical turnaround time is two and a half hours, so on that basis hard to see you pushing back prior to 1000 local time in London. Of course, it may take longer for 100 reasons.

Continuing with Wednesday 4 January 2023, QF21 (1400 hours MEL-DFW, B789 VH-ZNI) was in the sky at 1458 so estimated same day arrival becomes 1327 hours in the Texan afternoon, 42 minutes behind the schedule.

QF43 is delayed pretty much the same as two nights ago, with this 1635 hours Airbus A332 from SYD to popular DPS estimated to push back at 1900 hours, in about 25 minutes from now. Redeye QF44 will be delayed.

This is the third consecutive day that A333 VH-QPH has operated QF104 from HNL, estimated to arrive at its SYD gate tonight at 2021 hours, 101 minutes past the timetable. Of the last five, QPH has run four. The best it has been arriving in SYD is 28 minutes late but more than an hour tardy is typical. In one sense it doesn't matter so much because there would be no, or hardly any, domestic connections ex SYD later at night bar the 2200 hours to Melbourne. So one would think most traffic would be origin-destination on the flight itself.

For QF19/20 SYD-MNL-SYD, the last couple of weeks have seen poor timekeeping, although the last couple may have been worst without going back through every post. Couldn't come at a worse time with Christmas and school holidays meaning flights are packed, especially northbound on 'the 19'.

Tonight QPH is off to HND as QF25. You guessed it, delayed. ETA 2250 (scheduled departure 2135)

QF2 (Tues scheduled) has just departed at 11am Wednesday morning. They are going to struggle to get it into SYD before curfew tomorrow night, everything has to go right from here.

Did this bird ever get airborne as QF1D from ATH 2 LHR?
It departs in an hour. 2pm Athens time.

No, according to the QF flight status page, A388 VH-OQD as QF2D departed at 1040 hours from LHR local time on Wednesday 4 January, 840 minutes late, taking off at 1059 (the latter is to what you're referring, give or take a minute).

Shouldn't it be in SYD by around 2000 hours tomorrow evening if everything goes well? Just under 13 hours flying time to SIN, supposedly 90 minutes on the ground (though QFi often takes longer), then flying time of say seven and a quarter hours down to SYD plus taxiing time in SIngapore of say 20 minutes from gate to take off = around 22 hours until landing in Sydney.

Still some time up its sleeve for the overstay in Singapore.

Probably around 2100 assuming 2 hours on the ground in SIN. It’s still cutting it fine as we often see QF overstay. Example being QF2 turning around at LHR was over 3 hours.

Wednesday : Tonight's QF9 PER-LHR (B789 VH-ZNE) pushed back 46 minutes late, and was in the air 12 minutes later at 20:18 AWST. Qantas Fight Status ETA in London is 12 minutes early, while the flight trackers have it between 37 and 57 minutes late, i.e. 05:52 UTC +/- 10 minutes.

In the opposite direction QF10 (B789 VH-ZNH) pushed back 44 minutes late at 12:34 UTC, and while still in the take off queue as I write, is expected by Qantas Flight Status to be 30 minutes late into Perth at 12:55 AWST tomorrow afternoon.

The diverted Monday 2 January 2023 ex SYD QF1 (A388 VH-OQJ) took off from Athens on Wednesday 4 at 1554, more than an hour later than intended as claimed pushback had been 1400, with it arriving at a LHR gate at 1724, 109 minutes late. It is to form the Wednesday 4 2040 hours QF2 to SIN and on to SYD that supposedly is to push back 35 late at 2115 hours, in about 12 minutes from when I write.

A388 VH-QPI on QF19 arrived MNL yesterday at 1831, 61 minutes late, meaning the 1920 hours redeye back down to SYD was airborne at 2045. This morning, it arrived SYD at 0736 hours, 81 minutes behind schedule.

This afternoon, QF28 from SCL to SYD is predicted to arrive at 1733, a creditable 17 minutes early and then form the 1755 hours QF7 long haul to DFW. QFi suggests that the latter will depart at 1910, arriving DFW at 1720 hours, 80 minutes late. Past history suggests these timings for the DFW flight are somewhat optimistic.

QF63, the morning nicely timed 0935 hours SYD-JNB has been quite good recently for punctuality with no cancellations, but today is badly delayed with pushback not predicted until mid afternoon at 1455 hours. The return B789 on QF64 is suggested as departing JNB at 2125 hours local time instead of 1635, so a substantial wait for those passengers but insufficient delay to be given an hotel. No man's land.

Following the QF43 delay yesterday, QF44 from DPS down to SYD (A332 (VH-EBC) is suggested as arriving at 0909 hours, 159 minutes behind schedule.

The Athenian stayer in A388 VH-OQJ that had been in London since 1724 yesterday afternoon took off on the 2040 hours LHR-SIN-SYD QF2 at 2212 hours on Wednesday's late evening. SIN arrival on Thursday 5 January should be at 1902 hours tonight, 92 minutes late.

Thursday : QF22 DFW-MEL (B789 VH-ZNI) was 27 minutes late pushing back in Dallas on Wednesday evening, with ETA Melbourne now 06:26 AEDT Friday, 41 minutes late.

ZNK, which overnighted in SYD, was due to operate QF 63 today, but has been swapped to the late night QF17 departure. This resulted in QF63 and QF7 being delayed awaiting inbound aircraft.

QF63 has been further delayed until 15:45 AEDT - Sydney flight details show it as "Boarding".
Begs the question as to why ZNC which arrived with QF8 in the early hours didn't take QF63, as this has been the normal pattern for some weeks.
