Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Does anyone have any info about QF43 SYD - DPS today? Flightradar24 shows as Cancelled. I am on QF44 back to SYD tonight, checked in and so far haven’t heard from Qantas. I hope it’s a glitch

Qantas' 'flight status' page unusually shows QF43 today as 'cancelled' but QF44 as 'operating'. I can't see that there's a 'spare' aircraft in DPS, and nor do the flights ex and to MEL show one leg getting the flick for balancing purposes.

Perhaps QFi (and in turn FR24) are mistaken. An alternative is there's an aircraft that's been in say Singapore flying in to form your '44', but that'd be unusual. Unfortunately like you I do not know any more.

Thursday 22 June 2023 has also seen QF1 (1610 hours ex SYD) take off exactly an hour later with A388 VH-OQJ, SIN at gate arrival being suggested as 39 minutes late at 2209 hours.

B789 VH-ZNF arrived in PER on Thursday 22 at 1201 hours as QF10 ex LHR, 21 minutes late - not a delay I'd usually consider noteworthy. However for its second sector to MEL, takeoff wasnt until 1447 hours mid afternoon so predicted gate arrival becomes 1947 hours, 67 behind. The aircraft as is often the case is forming QF93 (2025 hours mid evening MEL-LAX) that's suggested, a little optimistically, as pushing back an hour late.

Thank god - seems to be a glitch. VH-XZG is now visible on F24.

Adding to the good news, it's recorded as likely to bang on time arriving DPS at 2105 (at gate). Safe and happy travels!

QF24 from BKK to SYD overnight is arriving on Thursday 22 June 2023 with A333 VH-QPB at 0724 hours, 59 minutes late. Yesterday as QF23 it arrived BKK at 1655, 15 late. This is the second consecutive day that delays on the ground have seen it losing time.
I was on that flight. They delayed boarding two or three times, passed around bottles of water to tired and disgruntled pax. The reason was apparently some disturbing noise in the cabin, as two rows of seats - 29 and 30, I think - were vacated (meaning some pax must have been bumped, as it looked to be an almost full flight on the seat diagram just before boarding) and pax in nearby seats given earplugs. Took off at 2016 local (for a scheduled 1810 departure) and held for ten minutes or so before assigned gate was vacated in SYD.

Screwed up my onward travel and my bag was delayed but otherwise a pleasant flight once aboard. (I was in row 51, so no disruption for me, apart from my bit of the plane being delayed along with the affected part, which was hardly fair).

Thank you - on my way to the airport, enjoying classic Balinese traffic chaos 😂

Edit: 2 hours delay expected, QF43 had to
go down to re-fuel in DRW 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thursday 22 June 2023 continued with QF1 ex SYD arriving SIN later than forecast, at 2225 hours (55 minutes late). A388 VH-OQJ was then in the sky at 0107 hours with LHR arrival suggested at this stage (subject to no further air traffic delays) as 0711 hours on Friday 23, 36 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday's QF2 (VH-OQH), the 2055 hours mid evening LHR to SIN and SYD was predicted to push back a few minutes ago at 2200 hours local time, so is likely to be late arriving in Singapore.

QF10 from LHR down to PER was similar yesterday, taking off at 1253, 58 minutes after the timetable says 'blocks off', so today's gate arrival time becomes about 1235 hours, 55 behind. This will mean a tardy arrival in MEL. 'The 93' from MEL up to LAX is only displaying with a 10 minute delay (to a proposed 2035 hours departure) but if 'the 10's' aircraft B789 VH-ZNA is proceeding to Los Angeles, it may be somewhat later.

A388 VH-OQL on QF94 from LAX to MEL is arriving at gate shortly at about 0722 hours, 37 late.

The DEL-MEL redeye QF70 has A332 VH-EBV: arrival in MEL should be early this afternoon at 1306 hours, 36 minutes behind the timetable.

QF104 ex HNL was its usual unpunctual self in SYD last night, arriving 43 late at 1923 hours. It then as is usual formed 'the 25' up to HND, where it arrived this morning at 0559 hours, 34 behind. VH-QPG (A333) was the taskmaster.

Sister VH-QPF has just come in to SYD on QF20 ex MNL, arriving at 0711 hours, 31 behind.

Last night QF43 arrived DPS at 2213 hours, 68 minutes late, so not quite as bad as expected.

QF44 ended up arriving SYD this morning at 0658, 53 late.

QF9 diverted to SIN and looks to be still there, guessing crew would have timed out.

It turned back to Perth about 4 hours into the flight before deciding to go to SIN.

On airliners someone has suggested that 9 is going to continue to LHR empty with passengers re-accommodated on other flights. Crew probably timed out and no full spare crew in SIN which doesn’t have regular 789 ops.

QF9 is departing SIN at 1600

Qantas' flight status page, plus FR24, maintain QF9, whether empty or full of passengers et al, is not departing SIN until 2335 late tonight local time (0135 AEST Sunday 25 June).

This may simply be that QF hasn't updated its public information, and you have more up to date details.

On Friday 23 June, the often delayed QF139 (1855 hours evening SYD-CHC) had another bad night with B738 VH-XZG arriving at 0100 hours, 61 minutes late on Saturday.

Also today, B789 VH-ZNF as QF94 arrived MEL (ex LAX) at 0738 hours, 53 late, while the LAX to SYD QF12 (A388 VH-OQK) was similar, pulling in to its gate at 0839, 54 minutes behind schedule.

'The 69' from MEL to DEL timetabled to push back at 0925 hours midmorning saw pushback at 1052 so expeceted gate arrival becomes 1905 hours this evening local time, 85 late.

QF19 (1215 hours Saturday lunchtime SYD-MNL) has A333 VH-QPE that had been in Sydney since late last night. It didn't become airborne until 1352, so arrival should be 1946, 56 late, meaning the 2035 hours QF20 redeye back down to Australia will be behind schedule.

QFi suggests that the diverted (to SIN) Friday 24 June QF9 will arrive LHR on Sunday 25 at 0605, basically as early as possible given the LHR flight limitations as Quickstatus cogently explained a few posts back.

Saturday 24's 1155 hours QF10 is therefore delayed overnight to predicted departure at 0830 hours on Sunday, which looks achievable provided there are no further problems with 'the 9.' Given today's QF9 should be in LHR just after 0500 hours, in theory it could be either aircraft.

This means the Sunday night 1840 hours timetabled arrival of QF10 in MEL will become around 1530 hours on Monday 26 afternoon.

Seems easier just to cancel the QF9/10 and get on with rerouting pax rather than these extended delays

The aircraft ZNC was due to overnight in MEL Sunday night after returning as QF10, as the QF93 is being operated by an A380. So apart from QF10, there shouldn’t be rolling delays for days to come.

A diversion to a port where that aircraft doesn’t normally operate is very problematic for crewing.

Except that it should have been operating the QF35/QF36 MEL-SIN-MEL B789 rotation on Monday - QF35 is due to depart just 30 minutes after VH-ZNCs revised Perth departure on the final leg of the delayed QF10 flight.
Presumably QF35/QF36 will revert to an A332 or A333, as there is no delay posted for these flights.

Possibly or the aircraft that operates QF94 (ZNJ) could operate QF35/36, with the late inbound QF10 turning around to operate QF9. The regular inbound (on time) QF10 could then operate QF93.
