Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF63 from SYD to JNB did not take off today until 1106 (it's an 0950 timetabled departure) so it won't be arriving at JNB until about 1700, 50 minutes late. This has been happening a bit in the last few days, but it does not necessarily mean that QF64 will be overly late back into SYD on Tuesday 28 July.

Thank goodness

This is why we are overnighting in Joburg in September and flying to Cape Town the next day. I still have vivid memories of almost collapsing in the terminal in February when running to make our connection to Durban after QF63 arrived late.....

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF16 looks like being ~80 mins late out of LAX. They're changing a "scorched tyre".

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The 'good Captain's' prediction of a more or less 100 minute delay to QF16 (Sunday night ex LAX, tomorrow morning - Tuesday 28 July 2015) into SYD, proved pretty accurate. It departed at 0148, 113 minutes down, with arrival in SYD forecast to be 0900, 80 minutes late.

I am happy to be corrected but as Tuesday is a fairly quiet day for the longer long haul flights, it doesn't appear that any QF departures tomorrow morning will be delayed waiting for this B744 to arrive and be serviced.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QantasLink QF2104 operated normally from SYD to CFS this morning (Wed 29 July 2015) and, creditably, arrived 13 minutes early at 0812. However, the return flight QF2105 has been delayed from 0845 to 1300. Perhaps a mechanic has to be flown up from SYD to fix whatever has malfunctioned.

QF2202, the 0630 from ABX departed two hours late this morning and arrived SYD an hour and 50 minutes behind at 0930. The 'Border' area is notorious for fog at this time of year, as any user of the Hume Freeway or the Sydney - Melbourne rail line can attest.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Adding to QantasLink's problems today, QF2010 from SYD to TMW has been delayed in departing from 1400 to 1500 hours while the following flight, QF2006, the normal 1515 hours has been cancelled. Let's hope only half a plane load is booked at most on each so that everyone can fit on the late 1400 hours flight.

QF2024, the 1045 this morning from SYD to ARM was cancelled meaning passengers had to wait until 1216 for the 1215 hours timetabled QF2022 to depart.

The 1425 hours QF2172 from SYD to PQQ has been delayed in departing from 1425 to 1500.

UPDATE: The 0810 hours QF2221 from SYD to WGA did not depart until 1252, behind the 1145 hours timetabled QF2225 that departed SYD 11 minutes late.

QF2034 from SYD to ARM, the 1850 hours flight has been cancelled. One wonders how passengers who had an afternoon appointment in SYD and who could not make the previous flight, a 1530 hours departure, get home to the Northern Tablelands this evening.

Not a great day for the rural arm of Qantas!

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Thursday 30 July 2015's QF2 from LHR spent three hours and 14 minutes at DXB and hence is an expected 75 minutes late into SYD tomorrow morning (Sat 1 August) - 0625 instead of the normal horrible arrival time of 0510. This flight (unlike, quite often QF9 and sometimes QF1 and QF10) is normally punctual. Sometimes it is even shown as being due into SYD at 0440 or 0450 when that time is 10 or so hours away, but this is usually modified as the flight proceeds as the SYD curfew exemptions (for three incoming international flights if I recall) only apply from 0500 (or perhaps, strictly, 0510) not 0400 or 0430.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF63 from SYD to JNB departed this morning (Saturday 1 August 2015) 62 minutes late at 1152 (VH-OEI), meaning a forecast 70 minutes late arrival in JNB at 1820, while QF27 to SCL, another B744, departed 57 minutes late at 1222 (VH-OEE) but should only be half an hour late arriving in Chile.

QF19, an A330, has been delayed departing from SYD from 1210 to a predicted 1330 en route to MNL. SYD may be down to using only one of the two north-south runways.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Announcement in LAX lounge for passengers on QF12 to sydney to remain in lounge - that is after it was delayed for an hour. May not be good news.
QF94 to MEL is now 30 mins late.

QF 12 now called for boarding at 2208 local time.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Fortunately for FlyboyAL or other passengers, QF12 from LAX to SYD on Friday 31 July departed 62 minutes late at 2302 and is due in SYD at 0640 on Sunday 2 August, half an hour late. QF18 from JFK arrived in LAX at 2310, 90 minutes late, so it has been delayed in leaving for SYD until 0050 on Saturday 1 August local time, 55 minutes late but should only be 20 minutes late arriving in SYD on Sunday at 0800.

QF94 departed LAX 68 minutes late at 2358 but is forecast to arrive on time into MEL, although that may be an incorrect indication from the QF website as the flight is not yet airborne and sometimes the computer appears to recalculate the expected arrival time once the plane has levelled out in flight.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Yep we were late leaving LAX due to a late connecting QF18 flight from JFK. Can't remember what time we landed, but don't ask about customs and baggage!

Took 50 minutes to get my bag...priority bag?!? QF18 was late leaving JFK because of lack of gates. I wish QF would move to T8 at JFK.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Looks like CBR may be inoperative due to fog. QF1543 (B717 VH-YQW) should arrive at CBR normally at 0750 ex BNE but is in a holding pattern to the south of Marulan, as is QF1511 ex SYD (B717 VH-YQU) that is scheduled to arrive CBR at 0725. It's now 0838.

QF804, the 0720 from MEL to CBR has been delayed in its departure until a forecast 0900 while QF814, the 0900 on the same route is suggested as departing at 0920. QF1463 from SYD to CBR, the 0730 hours has similarly been delayed until an anticipated 0900 in departing SYD.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Although CBR had reopened, it seems to be (at least for arrivals) closed again due to fog with QF706, QF804 and QF814 among planes in a holding pattern above CBR. Presumably QF or ATC or both did not expect this to occur when the two delayed QF flights from MEL departed.

QF1467 from SYD (the 0900 departure) and QF1545 from BNE (the 0845 departure) are among other flights in holding patterns.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

As it seems that some work is happening on 27 in Melbourne, all operations are on 16. Don't know how long it will last, but single runway ops slow things down dramatically.

Sunny now where we are, but the airport usually takes much longer to clear. It took some skill to build the airport in the foggiest part of Canberra.....
