Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF79 had a 12 hour delay and departed not long ago at 2315. This will have an impact to the QF62 due out around 5am. Because of the delay and duty hours, there may be more delays tomorrow ex HND.
 
QF 11 cancelled for the 2nd time this week, in addition to a 3-hour late arrival Monday and a 2-hour late arrival yesterday.

Really looking forward to seeing what shenanigans await me next Tuesday. /s
 
OQI is out of service. Tomorrow’s schedule looks unaffected at this stage, after QF11 on Tuesday and Friday were cancelled, so OQI must be due back in service tomorrow at this stage.
 
QF741, today’s scheduled 1655 SYD - ADL cancelled. All pax rebooked onto QF743, ETD 1745. One or both services presumably sufficiently lightly loaded enough to accommodate.
 
I've been keeping an eye on the A330 fleet dispatch reliability the last few weeks and there are consistent problems with cancelled flights or delays of five hours +. The fleet is clearly stretched way too thin and their age is catching up with them. Really embarrassing.

QF37 delayed by over 5 hours two days in a row now - just departed MEL at about 11pm, 6 hours late. The poor passengers on the return QF38 will also have to cop a 5am departure from SIN now.

It was a similar story with yesterday's QF37, also leaving MEL over 5 hours delayed, although QF38 departed on-time yesterday as it was operated by a different aircraft (due to the AY A330 being back on the SYD flight and there being an extra QF A330 on the ground).

It would be interesting if they were forced to disclose the monthly OTP, separately for QF and JQ international flights, and not the combined average over all operated flights in the month (including Qantas Link). That would show the true unreliability and uncertainty that pax exercising their bundle of rights are forced to endure.

International isnt disclosed at all.

QF 127 to HKG delayed (so far) an hour this morning as inbound from LAX was 2.5 hours late.

QF 63 to JNB is 1:15 late despite the inbound being only 25 minutes late from Dallas.

QF 2 was 1.5 hours late coming in from SIN, and while a 3.5-hour turnaround to operate as QF 11 to LAX should be more than feasible, I'm certainly not holding my breath. Given the recent track record of that flight, if we push back before 12 I'll be pleasantly surprised.

The A380s and A330s are disastrous as of late, but even the 787s aren't doing well.

And to think international flights don't factor into OTP stats, where QF was already at the bottom last month domestically. 😵‍💫
 
I suspect part of the reason may be that they just don't have enough staff on the ground in SYD to be doing tight turns on multiple A380 flights at once, especially if they end up being bunched up due to delays.

Not sure what's going on in MEL though - they seem to be short of A330s.

It looks like today's QF35 will be leaving at the same time as QF37 (if it's not eventually cancelled) and is planned to be operated by EBA, the same aircraft arriving 5 hours late on QF38 from SIN.

It doesn't seem to be limited to any one aircraft either. There seem to be a couple that have been more regular problem children but the overall ageing of the fleet seems to be catching up.

Today QPI was 3 hours late out of Melbourne to Tokyo and QPH was two hours late out of Brisbane to Singapore despite arriving early and being on the ground for 7 hours in between flights. QPD and QPF have both been unreliable lately.

A couple of 200s seem to be problematic too. God knows what is going on. It's possible some of this isn't about the fleet but about staff shortages in putting together crews and ground staff which could definitely be a part of it. Truly embarrassing when you put it along side SQ, EK, QR or CX in their operations.

Credit where due and copping some humility: despite my negativity and its recent poor record, QF 11 did pull off the gate just a few minutes behind schedule yesterday and landed at LAX nearly half an hour early. It was also an excellent flight in 11A.
 
MEL is a mess today, single runway poor visibility, 30 aircraft queuing on the taxiways, more holding at the gate.
 
FYI - Qantas is giving passengers the option to fly earlier ex Sydney due to possible disruptions
I reckon they have this on every single day... I can't think of a time I've flown SYDMEL in the last few months where it hasn't been offered.
