Qantas Delays/Cancellations

@jb747 - in that case, would QF organise a hotel for the crew to rest or would they be sent on the next available service to Australia potentially make the journey for them even longer?

Wednesday 25 September's QF4, the 1920 hours from JFK (B789 VH-ZNK) took off at 2156 so Friday 27 arrival in AKL is estimated as 0636 hours, 96 minutes late. The second sector to SYD is unlikely to make up a stack of time.

On Thursday 26, QF295 (A333 OH-LTR), the 0950 hours morning SYD-BKK took off at 1051. Gate arrival should be 35 minutes late at 1715 hours.

QF10 from LHR down to PER arrived with VH-ZNE at 1222 hours, 42 late.

QF2 (A388 VH-OQJ) from LHR to SIN should arrive 37 late at 1802 hours Singapore time (2002 AEST).

With SYD, BNE and MEL airports busy due partly to school holidays and/or the AFL Grand Final's patrons making their way down for the Grand Final street parade on Friday, a public holiday in Melbourne, unsurprising there's some delayed flights.

QF1401 (Q400 VH-QOR, the 1755 hours SYD down to MQL) was airborne at 1848 hours.

B738 VH-VXH on QF468, the 1645 hours from MEL to SYD is arriving at 1900 hours, 50 minutes late.

QF2043 from DBO to SYD, the 1645 hours, took off at 1742 with Q400 VH-QOV and arrived at 1852 hours, 62 minutes late.

One I missed earlier today, QF59 (A333 VH-QPC), the 1110 hours SYD-HND did not become airborne until 1236 hours. A 2114 hours (local time) arrival, 64 late, is the forecast. Four out of the last QF59/60 rotations have been operated by this aircraft.

The 2200 hours QF60 (HND down to SYD) QF60 is estimated to depart at 2235 hours. Some airports couldn't manage a c.81 minute international flight turnaround: Japanese efficiency may mean HND can.

Updating post #16,103, QF4 has advanced to be estimated to arrive at AKL at 0617 tomorrow morning, not 0636 hours. FR24 suggests the onward second sector to SYD will depart at 0740 hours, only 40 minutes late.

Well there you go...after more than a month out of service, B789 VH-ZNC did the honours on QF773, the 1315 hours MEL-PER this afternoon and is now undertaking long haul QF9, the 1830 hours PER-LHR. Showing the amount of timetable padding, this afternoon it took off at 1409 and arrived PER (local time) only 11 minutes late at 1536 hours. It should be at least 10 minutes early arriving at its London gate on Saturday 27 September 2024.

Friday 27 September has QF60, the 0640 hours from HND down to SYD not in the sky until 0802. Gate arrival tonight should be 47 minutes behind schedule at 1817 hours for A333 VH-QPE.

Its sister flight but in the opposite direction, QF59, the 1110 hours SYD-HND is predicted to depart 45 late at 1155.

QF143, the 0855 hours SYD-AKL should depart an hour late.

The 0910 hours SYD-AKL-JFK, QF3 (B789 VH-ZNB) was still in the early stage of taxiing as at 0950 hours, so AKL gate arrival looks to be about 1435, half an hour tardy.

Colleague ZNM is on 'the 10' from LHR to PER that should be at its arrival gate at 1221 hours local time, 41 minutes behind schedule.

A388 VH-OQB on QF2 is arriving SIN tonight at 1808 hours, 43 minutes late.

A333 VH-QPC on QF81, the weekly flight from SYD to SIN at 1025 hours is forecast to depart 55 minutes late. One assumes this flight operates so the Finnair wet-leased aircraft can have a day off for maintenance.

The AKL-SYD QF142 has B738 VH-VYZ and is arriving at 1006 hours, 49 minutes late.

hey - some info from flightradar 24- QF 29 to HKG today looks like going to depart late on VH-QPF, but the aircraft had landed in Melbourne as QF 30 from HKG was on time at 0739 this morning... I wonder what is happening on this flight??

Update: Took off at 1305 - and now scheduled to arrive 2005 - 2 hrs behind!

Continuing with Friday 27 September, QF295, the 0950 hours SYD-BKK took off at 1108 with A333 OH-LTR. Arrival at gate should be 50 minutes late at 1730.

In more on 27 September, QF29 (A333 VH-QPF), the 1020 hours from MEL to HKG was not in the sky until 1305, so arrival should be 119 minutes late at 1959 hours mid evening. This aircraft often forms the 1930 hours to SYD, QF128, from HKG, but that is displaying as punctual tonight, whereas QF30 back to MEL is forecast to push back 75 minutes late at 2115.

The return flight took off at 2206 and arrived at 0850 instead of scheduled 0725...

On Saturday 28 September, QF51, the 1105 hours BNE up to SIN with A332 VH-EBC took off at 1352 hours. Arrival at gate should be 1931 hours, 131 minutes late.

A333 OH-LTS on QR295 (0950 hours Monday 30 September SYD-BKK) was airborne at 1044, so gate arrival is estimated as 1710 hours, half an hour late.

QF127, the 1015 hours SYD-HKG has A333 VH-QPE but it was not in the sky until 1140, so gate arrioval should be 1842 in the early evening, 47 late.

The 1110 hours SYD up to HND (-QPC) took off at 1226 hours so it won't pull in to its gate until about 2059 hours, 49 late.

This could mean some delay on the return to Australia from HKG - if it is the 128 to SYD - bigger impact as that departure is 1930, but if it is the 30 to MEL - not as bad with the departure schedule at 2000

Continuing with Monday 30 September, QF11, the A388 due out of SYD at 1735 - some twenty minutes ago - for LAX should instead depart at 2100 hours mid evening. The only QFi A380 in Sydney is VH-OQJ that arrived at 0606 hours this morning as QF2 from SIN and LHR.

Also on Monday 30 September, QF63 (the 0930 hours midmorning SYD-JNB) metamorphed into an A388, after having been a B789.

A388 VH-OQH has the honours. It should arrive JNB (ex SYD) at about 1620 hours South African time, 10 minutes late.

I don't normally record delays of under half an hour but made an exception because this is an historic day for the SYD-JNB route.

I heard this OQH -the name of aircraft itself is Ansett...

Further to my post above re tonight's delayed QF11, Qantas' flight status shows it as further delayed to an expected 2200 hours departure. So does FR24. A388 VH-OQJ remains the operating aircraft.

The SYD airport website claims QF11 is 'cancelled'. However it's not the airline.

UPDATE: It's just after 2200 AEST: I can't see OQJ displaying on the FR24 worldwide map. While every situation differs, on previous occasions, it's rarely been a good sign, although occasionally buildings apparently hinder signals from transponders.

FURTHER UPDATE: FR24 has just put 'unknown' against this flight. FR24 isn't perfect, but again, sometimes this is another bad sign.

According to QF website - delayed to 2100 on 01/10/2024 - but one must assume cancelled??
