Qantas domestic economy meals

140g Chicken and leek pie on 6:05pm SYD-BNE flight.

The list of things in the pie is huge. Just 22% chicken and I'm guessing 300-400 calories? It's a snack not dinner.

I had the same chicken and leek pie on my 9pm MEL to SYD last week and it was sufficient for a late evening snack but yeah maybe its not filling enough as dinner.

Taste was not bad I have to say for celebrity chef marketed pie.

I have an upcoming flight this month syd to Cairns with the family. Checked the details and it says that there are no gluten intolerance meals or junior meals on this flight?
This doesn't seem right for a 3hr flight. Do I need to get my wife to pack some GF snacks for herself?
If they don't have a dietary requirement meal available do they at least offer a normal one?
Thanks

Carins flights in economy are “refreshment,” services. There’ll only be a snack, usually a brownie or biscuits. Something like that. Definitely pack your own food.

Bingo! Didn't pick up on that.
Yep, definitely will be bringing some of our own.
Last time I flew syd to crns in the morning we were served quiches or ham and cheese croissants. I have now lowered my expectations
Thanks

Four arancini balls on last night's flight from BNE-SYD.
I had these a few months back, I enjoyed them, however, ...

Were they hot to touch and too hot to eat?
Were they too gooey to eat with hands?
Were they served without cutlery?
Were they too hot and you couldn't eat them until the crew came back to collect rubbish?

Oh they were tasty. However as I had filled up in the lounge prior, I saved them for later at home.

Can confirm they were extremely hot when served. A neighbouring passenger attempted to eat it and promptly regurgitated. 😅
Was served without cutlery (which would definitely have come in handy).

Have they upgraded from 3? Bonus!
That depends on whether the individual portion size of the previous three was larger. 😉

Mirrors my experience a few months back, except for the regurgitation 🤣

I asked the crew if they had any cutlery and they said as this is a snack only, no cutlery was loaded ... too bad !! I loved the dish, but I didn't enjoy it because I burnt the insides of my mouth after the first bite ... then I had to wait until the crew had collected rubbish, so that the arancini balls have cooled down sufficiently so that I can eat them ...

All good unless your flight is less than 3 1/2 hours and outside meal hours, and of course no delays! Otherwise you just get the chocolate brownie!

Today’s whY meal onboard QF1454

Mini platter - rosemary lavosh (was really good), caramelised onion dip (bit too sweet to my liking and didn’t go well with the lavosh) and cheese biscuits (meh, too cheesy and dry)

Drink - selection of canned soft drinks, Sav blanc (didn’t see the label) and Angove Shiraz.

Quite filling for a 30 minute ride.

Marginally better than the little ginger cake on flight from Sydney to Alice Springs that is 3 hours, departed about 9.30am Saturday.

BNE-SYD 1910 departure. No vego options in the meals cart. Was offered chicken pie or another meat option. Asked if there was a vego option. FA said there might be some in the back.

Went and brought me plant based corn fritters.

Was good, but felt a bit bitter with the Ginger Beer.

BNE-MEL dinner time flight. This gross chicken slop between a bit of bread.
pre covid this was a proper box meal with a choice of at least two options. Crew were indifferent and I’m honestly preferring VA these days
