Qantas domestic economy meals

Two weeks ago on an 18:25 MEL - CBR flight, the service consisted of packets of cheese & crackers, accompanied by a beverage service.

Thankfully I had already indulged in a toasted sandwich at the lounge prior to boarding, and flight was otherwise a flawless experience including an early arrival.

Not sure quite what I was expecting, but subconsciously I had expected something a little bit more substantial at a meal time. I travelled on a 17:45 SYD - MEL flight a few days earlier, on which some rather tasty arancini balls were served.

I've noticed of late the only white wine available is the horrid 'Dry White', fly every week and always been a rotation and sometimes even 2-3 choices of wine but not lately......maybe an enhancement and not a good one.

QF939 BNE-PER 14th July 2023 sched 1725, on time

Return to reality after a wonderful fam trip east for the first time since the plague. Forget the other offerings, but the bangers and mash were actually quite tasty in spite of the presentation which was well south of anything that AN would have offered me in Y while I was a penniless student in the early 90s...

The only red offering was a straight Merlot from Angove, from undisclosed parts of South Australia. While I have been very reticent to have low end Merlots after hearing Paul Giamatti's character in "Sideways" unrepeatable (in a G rated forum) opinion of them, this one was not terrible, but was, to quote same character, "quaffable but far from transcendent". Did not order a second glass though.

Cheese and spring onion sandwich with caramelised onion relish. 2/3rds of a sandwich really. Hope that you like onions. Sandwich was fresh from the freezer. Significant scope for improvement. Very cheerful mature crew.

Looks similar to what we had on BNE-PER last week - less than stellar presentation, but appears quite tasty in spite of this.
Slept the second half of the flight - must ask the kids if Kit Kats were offered later on!

Looks unappetizing but tasted fine. Not kit kat but crew came through with the usual Lindor Balls later.

Travelling QF436 (MEL-SYD) next week, with QF499 return. Economy fare.

It's listing both flights as "Refreshment". What is this likely to entail?

I'd like to work out if I should find something pre-flight.

Eat beforehand. Very small snack/meal. I never eat in QF Y anymore

Thanks, it's only a short flight but I'd wish they'd make it known what is going to be available. I'm a bit fussy and also need to avoid some foods.

In the past I've usually travelled Deathstar and have pre-ordered food, which I've found quite handy.

Quite often the refreshment is those too sweet white chocolate chip cookies. Eat in the lounge beforehand.

QF436 today, economy offering was a small chocolate & caramel slice with a choice of soft drink, juice or water. Tea and coffee was unavailable for a reason I didn't catch, which was disappointing because I was jonesing for a tea.

Business had a fuller meal, which appeared to be a quiche with yorkshire pudding, nut bar and cold drink.

QF499 last night (Sun 6th), curry samosas and a choice of cold drinks, including beer and wine.

Samosas were a little on the doughy side but still very nice.
