Did they call it a grain salad? Last I had this (in January) they said it was "proscuitto and corn salad" but what I was given was about 70% barley, 20% corn and 10% proscuitto like a garnish on top. When I was offered something similar again a couple of weeks ago I said "is that the barley dish?" and they said "um, yes" and I suggested that they should identify it as a barley salad since that is what is mostly is and not call it a proscuitto salad.

They've had this barley 'n' corn dish on offer for well over a year now and just changing what they put on top of it; first it had boiled egg and then they switched to proscuitto about 4 months ago. But it is good to see the proportion of proscuitto-to-everything else is better in this offering.

QF605 BNE/MEL 30/3/22

Nothing like a 5:20am flight - first for year and first since May last year. Caught up with Steve Wilson at the QF J Lounge, who’s been there forever.

Less appealing than previous versions of QF breakfast than I recall. Tasty and filling - can’t remember what was inside omelette - perhaps it was deconstructed. Seatmate in J was asleep so CSA was softly spoken - I’ll have the hot option please. Looks like ham, spinach and tomatoes

QF506 SYD-BNE 11APR
Frittata with sausage and bacon - one of the better hot breakfasts I've had on QF recently. The bakery item was also above average.

Other option was wild berry granola and yoghurt

QF51 BNE-SIN 11APR (Broken IFE so a rather boring 8 hour daytime flight...)

Menu

PXL_20220411_021821580.jpg
Qantas Sky Spritz - white wine spritz with finger lime and davidson plum. Quite tart, probably wouldn't order again (switched to wines after one)

PXL_20220411_030739475.jpg
Thai fish cakes with pickled cucumber and chilli dressing - had a surprisingly good chilli kick. Three fish cakes were served, this fat cough forgot to take a photo before starting to eat. Would definitely order this again.

Jiangxi style barramundi. Had it several times pre-covid and remembered it being a reasonably safe option. Once again it was fine, nothing to write home about, worse presentation than I remember but it tasted okay. I think all of the mains options on the menu have been in circulation since 2019, it's a shame they haven't revamped the menu - at this point it feels like a game of "pick the least unappealing/most difficult to stuff up"

Croque monsieur. Straight out of the Qantas Club.

Wines loaded were:
Voyager Chardonnay 2017
Shaw + Smith Sav Blanc 2021
Haselgrove Switch GSM 2017
McWilliam's McW Regional Collection Shiraz 2017

This is the same menu given out for AU->nth america flights. Although on the QF11 SYD->LAX the crew have to tell everyone that none of the starters are available, that this is a supper flight, and only the main courses apply.

I would recommended *against* the ‘plant based creation’ (aka a bog standard vegetarian offering). It looks nothing like the PR shots, and is presented quite badly by the plating crew.

While on the issue of complaints… for brekky the crew still serve I-C-Y cold trays with the frozen cutlery and cups. You’d think they would realise by now that putting a hot drink in a frozen cup would make the drink cold? Dunno, does that sound ‘match fit’ to you? (But c’mon… even if their manual doesn’t spell out to heat the cups, you’d think they’d be embarrassed to serve it like that.)

I don't understand this wine choice. Why do they load two similar style red wines? Why not go for some variety instead?

12/4 QF534 SYD/BNE 4:45pm departure

I had been on QF540 which was cancelled so they automatically re-booked me on this flight (leaving 15 mins before my original flight).

No delays getting through security as Business line was only 6 long when I was there and the Economy queue was ~120 long.

I was in 2K and by the time it got to me, the quinoa salad option was gone so had to opt for ham and cheese toastie. Quite tasty.

QF692 ADL-MEL 1705 departure
Departed about a hour late due to the late inbound thanks to the MEL debacle.
PB line was non existent but managed to weave my way to front and a few of us made our own line and the staff called us through.
No water offered onboard
Staff apologised profusely to us for having no catering onboard so offered us a packet of biscuits. The CSM said there is a massive problem in MEL and many flights not being catered. No glasses onboard as they hadn’t been cleaned so plastic cups distributed. She also mentioned on one of her flights today there was no staff to bring out a wheelchair so flight was delayed disembarking for 15 minutes and another issue with lack of ground staff held up another flight for 2hrs today.
Paid J fare so a tad disappointing but staff were wonderful and kept the drinks flowing. Our MEL-CBR flight now delayed by nearly 2hrs so will now be able to get to CBR tonight

Almost exactly my lunchtime experience BNE-SYD QF527 today. Produced a tray with a Y nibblies selection, went for the packet of chippies which were mini rice crackers. Only drinks offered were still water in Y bottles or sparkling plus meh tea or coffee. Excuse was that they didn't load J catering to turn around the plane faster. Only problem with the excuse is that EF told me the plane arrived 20 mins late and departed 30 mins late. The only people we saw get a hot meal were the flight deck. We smelt it cooking.

To top it off a 30m wait for bags to arrive at SYD after a random selection of bags arrived first, and priority boarding was a joke. Upgrading this flight was an utter waste.

Same experience as my late afternoon flight QF474 MEL-SYD yesterday. I was pretty confused when my glass of wine came in a plastic cup. We did receive some tuna sandwiches though and the usual pretzels/nuts, but still disappointing for an evening flight during dinner.

Hi all
QF433 on Friday 15 April SYD to MEL. 10am departure from SYD. B737.
Business catering "not loaded due to staff shortages in catering centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane". Offered tea or coffee and cookies from Y. FA very apologetic.

QF682 ADL MEL 12.05pm departure 15/4. No catering. No reason given. Apology offered.

Plenty of drinks service in J, and the CSM found some packets of pretzels/nuts and some sweet biscuits in the drinks cart. Very attentive service, seeing they had hardly anything to do without any food to serve. Drinks served in glassware, swapped into plastic cups for those still drinking when descent started.

At the QP before the flight I enquired about catering onboard and was told there was no catering on any ADL flights that originated in SYD or MEL that day. Choice of food in the ADL QP on Good Friday was make-your-own sandwich, or scrambled eggs and baked beans.

If there's no catering on my return sector, I'll be asking for some points to be refunded. This isn't good enough for a supposedly "all inclusive premium airline" with "complimentary food" (words taken from QF current ads) and which stated "hot meal" on my QF app flight details.

Great flight on the 717. PB enforced and no PDB’s offered but catering on this flight!
Only option was buttered chicken which was very nice. Couple of glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and great service from all staff on a very smooth flight.
Luggage stayed behind in MEL and arrived late yesterday
