2 weeks ago I was suppose to go to Amsterdam for a annual conference ( this is my 30th). Normally I go via London and take 45 min flight to Amsterdam.
This time i try to go via Qantas/emirate via Dubai thinking its only two flights trip.
From Syd to Dubai I have to take flight syd-melbourne dubai since connecting flight from dubai to amsterdam is around 2 hrs.(sydney to dubai, connecting you have wait for 8 hrs)
Strange and nasty thing happen the day I was to travel since my flight is evening, around 12 pm one of my Worldmate apps warn me my flight from melbourne to dubai is so late that I will miss my connecting flight to amsterdam. I was suppose to land 1.15 pm in amsterdam and I had meetings at 3 pm. All this time Qantas never bothered to warn me this issue and when I rang the FF centre then only admit flight is delayed and I will miss the flight... Is this the service we expect from Qantas ?
Guy at FF put me to Emirate flight from sydney so that I got my connecting flight with out any issues.
I booked Melbourne to Dubai and Dubai to Sydney on AF flights and others are on Emirate /Qantas code share. Actually Emirate flights are first class and beautiful service.
Qantas A380 from Dubai was absolute cough, my seat was stuck and difficult to adjust and front seat guys seat was broken and on my face all the way.
I requested 4 weeks before departure for upgrades on Qantas flights and never got it . Worst part of Qantas is right until you board it says request is pending and no status. Another con by new management .

Other warning is DO NOT BUY any duty free at Dubai and it is double the price compared to Singapore and 50% more than David Jones, perfume counter.
Same with watch prices since it is double the Singapore prices.

I wrote to Qantas re. my experience and so far no replies but they acknowledge my complain .

This is how moronic CEO's get million dollar payments these days, gutting countries airline to the gutter level since his experience is about cheap, cheap and no service.

Iam now considering to move all my travel to Singapore airline since they promise to give me free lounge access to all their flights.

It seems it took you a long time to realise you don't like flying QF considering you are QF LTG. :p I personnally don't mind DXB, but YMMV.

Ouch. Sorry but i find it hard to understand your post. Soooi from what i interpret Qantas ran late and you may have missed a connection because of that. You then got put on another flight and didnt miss your connection, which allowed you to attend a conference that you wanted to attend. Said conference started under 2 hrs after you landed?

Mate you really need to plan a bit better seriously allowing 1 3/4 hours to get through the airport and to your meetings is a big ask.

I believe you have been well looked after and your personal travel planning needs attention.

Its always someone elses fault these days and remember a timetable is a guide not a bible

I wouldn't be surprised if Qantas actually found it hard to decipher the complaint, as I am finding it hard to do so. Dot points without cheap shots may be your friend.

Punctuality wise, you were moved to a flight to connect to your original flight, so what is the issue? Yes you were proactive about the delay, but this was sorted for you.

What class were you in? I would assume in either Y or Y+ if you are complaining about the seat back in your face. Again perhaps this is a reason why you hadn't been contacted yet by QF as you had the premium classes in front of you?

You would be incorrect about the lottery upgrade, the system (although there have been tweaks recently) was in place before Alan Joyce took the reigns. Having a cheap shot but using incorrect facts is unlikely to win you any friends.

As for the Duty Free, it is Duty free, not profit free. As per anything you purchase it is buyer beware.

The last thing I point out is that 1hr 45 minutes doesn't seem like an awfully long time between landing and your meeting. Perhaps this would add extra stress at the first sign of a delay.

What I would do? Restructure your complaint and remove a lot of the waffle. Keep it factual and concise and highlight what you would like done. Having a go about management with incorrect facts or what the CEO gets paid will help ensure your response gets very little respect if any.

In fairness to OP, nothing ruins my flight quite like a seat "on my face" let alone "all the way"

In less fairness... I don't understand being annoyed that QF is via Dubai instead of Singapore when you loved the EK flight??
Flying via London will take about 5hrs longer than flying through Dubai, so you were better off.

Some people lost the whole idea about the post..
If you have 24 hrs+ flight and all depend on connecting to other and when Qantas not telling you about this, and this is acceptable?
It must be acceptable for fools who work for Qantas or affiliate to PR or paid from PR.

Its all to do with risk management. Why is what Qantas lined up any different to what you organised with your business meeting being scheduled so close to arrival time? Actually what you organised yourself was even tighter.

Forget the business meeting, loosing connecting flight and waiting for a day for a connecting flight is acceptable to you?

It is always going to be a risk of travelling I personally always allow an extra day where possible and or practical t avoid this potential issue. I am normally one to jump on Qantas when they do things very very badly however I would respectfully suggest to you that any other airline would do act the exact same way.

As others have said some better planning on your behalf could have also assisted in alleviating the potentially disastrous outcome.

We have seen cases of people that have purchased Business and First Class fares and not been able to fly due to delays and or cancelations so please don't feel as if QF is picking on you :D

The fact remains you have no idea what qantas were going to do to fix the problem. What time did QF9 actually depart on the day?

i have a major issue with you're claim to have been op-upped to first class on one leg, but then had a seat in your face. What class were you booked in.

Finally who who is the bigger fool the person who provides advice or the person who can't accept it? Before you go calling me a qantas stooge, have a read.

Issue is not picking Qantas, Issue is My App warn well before delay and missing flight, but NOT Qantas, this is not acceptable.

Disregard everything everyone else says. You are totally right, everyone else is wrong and knows nothing. You can function like a champion after 20 hours flying and get through customs and immigration and get to your meeting in great shape in 1 hr 45 mins. WOW Man - Just wow.

Can you please let me know how to do these things because Im a useless sack of cough after a Long Haul Y flight and no way would I be in a state of mind to rush off a plane after 20 plus hours and gain any benefit at all from a meeting.

Have you thought of going one day earlier so you can be refreshed for your meeting?

I still don't get your gripe, maybe Im just a Mong.

Accusing those members who have suggested you have left very little time between your flight arriving and the actual meeting of working for the airline isn't going to win you many friends and is bordering on a cheap shot personal attack.

You mentioned that you were fist notified of the delay at around noon. Considering you were placed on the 4pm EK flight out of SYD I think you have done ok. With this in mind (and considering QF9 doesn't leave until ~11pm), how much time did you give QF to notify you?

More excuses... <redacted>

Cut the attitude and perhaps the response towards your experience may be more sympathetic.

It happens. I'm betting it has happened to the majority of people here. I'm amazed when I get home from a big trip with close connections when it does actually work without a snaffu.

Curiously your post has united a lot of AFF'ers who usually disagree with each other. 'Go figure' as they say in the USA. :p

You mean to say, you DON'T look as fresh as this guy?

I have been flying more than 50 yrs global and 10 yrs almost every week overseas... So I know how this works. Some people here don't get it or being sympathisers that working with some agenda.. Or did not read the article and ingest what is all about.
Some are still giving excuses about Qantas behaviour and it may be these are arm chair guys that does not understand the pain of long distance travel. This has nothing to do with 1st, bus or economy.
This is about airline deliberately keeping quite about late flights and also not warning about losing connecting flight due to the delay at Melbourne origination.
I am a Director of major US organisation that understand how paid PR work from different web sites and I can see some here showing very favourable or dirty washing ...
Some here <redacted> re. Dubai airport tax free rip off and is these people genuine ? Whole idea of having a web site like this is to warn future passengers about airline practice also different countries airport practice.

I call shenanigans. This website is about the collective knowledge of many flyers to help identify systemic problems. We cannot possibly warn about individual instances, but can provide general advice based on that knowledge.

Denigrating other posters is definitely not part of that advice.
