Let's wait and see but I have no confidence in this management of being able to make a competent decision to save their lives.

Then it is time for you to move on. May I suggest you switch to Thai Airways for your trips to S.E Asia. Join Royal Orchid Plus and enjoy the yearly return upgrade.

Wait and see, but a strong strategic move in Asia, strengthening the offerings on the various Jetstar Asian brands or morphing them into a QF brand could serve the airline very well. With a deal with EK you can support the services with through traffic from QF and EK services, through hubs both carriers fly to, whether it be SIN, HKG or NRT.

Ironically they must've been making some sort of said decision otherwise they would've well and truly been dead by now, especially Joyce and Clifford.

In fact, until today, I really thought Joyce was pushing his luck on his right to live.
And have we already decided this was the only decision Qantas could have made and that this decision alone will ensure their survival?

Let's play armchair CEO for a minute, and what would you have hoped to have done instead?

Haters gonna hate... At least there'll be more room in the QPs and F lounge for the rest of us... SIN and DXB are really just like for like, one sterile city for another. Not a fan of either, but then if I wanted a stopover, DXB probably has it by the whisker with more choice of resorts just to chill out. And it's less humid.
Stay in a resort? Why? I want to be out and about. I want to play golf. I want to be able to walk in the streets drinking alcohol whenever I feel like it. I want to eat normal meat.

Why would I want to fly Thai? I am happy with Qantas but the current management seems to be intent on destroying it.

Forgive me, staying in a resort was my personal preference. Note the I in that sentence... If I was talking about you I would have said that.

FYI Last time I was there, plenty of golf courses and all the meat that you could ask for... Alcohol is readily available, but I guess you've already made up your mind that you don't like it.

You are very clearly NOT happy with Qantas JohnK. Therefore - why continue to support them?

LOL at the normal meat comment.... there is plenty of meat in Dubai....

I wonder how this effects the OW RTW Award?

Makes it very hard to use if the Emirates flights can't be used with the termination of other flights to Europe.

Maybe they will allow the QF code shares on Emirates to count and you only need 2 OW airlines to be eligible. If so this is great for the product as heaps more options / destinations, if not it becomes a lot less useful :(
Assuming Qantas remains in Oneworld the Global network will still be there just less Qantas flights to choose from.

or maybe more? Melbourne is looking like getting one extra long haul destination from this assuming they operate a MEL-SIN flight. So from just LHR, SIN, HKG, LAX we can now add DXB.

Im hoping its a late night departure ex-MEL so the F lounge is open at more times of the day again

I have to say well done Alan Joyce and Qantas - you have actually exceeded my expectations with this deal. The media in recent days were giving the impression it would 'only' be a 'basic codeshare' agreement, but this is a very comprehensive agreement. I'm very excited about the new partnership and think it can only do good things for QFi's bottom line, which in turn will mean there will still be a QFi in the future for us to earn and burn our points on.

Re the status credit issue, Red Roo has confirmed that you will earn status credits on flights carrying the QF code - so that only leaves a question about earning on straight EK tickets, which would really be the icing on the cake.

Im particularly eager to see what the finalised combined trans tasman routes will look like and the new asian coverage - hoping that HKG holds onto the A380!!!

On a side note - can anyone point me to a video online that shows the whole press conference including the questions put to Alan and Tim, missed it on TV and would like to see it. Thanks!

Are you referring to pork or halal meat? If the latter then I become a vegetarian....

I'm referring to whatever meat you want.... please go and do a bit of research on what is available in Dubai. If you are not Muslim you can get pretty much whatever you wish.

Having worked in the food industry in Australia, you'd be surprised at how much of our regular meat (especially chicken) is actually Halal anyway. A lot of the companies see the extra cost of hiring a halal certified butcher minimal and do so to open up the market further.

Yes, there are levels of Halal, but that is another story :p

What's wrong with Halal meat anyway JohnK? I bet you have eaten plenty of it in S.E Asia

You guys are too funny. Talking about meats, I feel like a kebab right now! You know "with the lot!"

Hope I don't spill any sauce on my keyboard as I read more updates about QF & EK sleeping in the same bed now.

Perhaps its prudent to hold the back slapping until all the details are out in the open...

Eg where's the SC love and what's the full plan for the improved Asia routes . Important to note that retreating from FRA is a significant milestone for QF as their last continental euro destination...

I don't think I have never knowingly eaten halal meat. That I can guarantee.

And I will throw the same question back at you? What is wrong with non-halal meat? If I understand correctly you are saying we should all bow down to their religious wishes and just accept it as part of "OUR" everyday life. Not in this lifetime....

It tastes the same to me, not sure what it matters?
