Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

It certainly looks like it only Flex Saver flights are showing. May wait a few days. Was quite happy with some of the choices available though, but interestingly between LHR and BKK there was no EK option, just the one BA flight which doesn't even operate on the day I really want to leave London.

QF should test the changes to their booking system before unleashing it. There are currently no flights ex PER that i can see post 31 Mar to LHR that are less than $12k in Y using QF/BA !!! (unless you go via FRA on QF....) What do people do at the moment if they're trying to lock in QF flights after 31 March?

Presumably it is a work in progress.

Awards not bookable yet online as Dubai is not listed as a start point.

No sign of my hoped for DXB-LCA yet...

This is great ! I can see this truly helping qantas, now having desitantions like BKK having more than 1 flight per day available to me i can tailor my flights so much easier for work.

I hope that with the price matching etc that it goes in our favour. I looked at flights 2 weeks ago return london for may and qantas was 11k business, emirates 7k busniess same days, lets hope when this is all finalised pricing becomes a lot better!

PER-xSYD-xDXB-xx_ is very similarly priced to PER-xDXB-xx_ at the moment. Hope that sticks!

So QF where are the super special launch fares :P

What's weirder is that Aust - DXB return in J is about the same or more expensive than Aust - DXB - LHR return in J, whether I look at QF website or EK website and no matter what departure port I look at. It's not exactly an incentive to have a holiday in DXB, if I can get to Europe for the same price.

The prices are a little weird. using the Qantas site booking flights Adelaide - Dubai - Istanbul - Venice - Adelaide, Business class fares are $24,000. Booking the same flights on Emirates, $14,000.

That's almost always the case due to traffic rights

Just reading the TA FAQs on the Agents website. Looks like QF will offer the "Dubai Connect" - Stopover paid by carrier service.

‘Dubai Connect’ is a special courtesy service which Emirates currently offers to its customers who have a long stopover in Dubai. Qantas will also offer this service, with complimentary accommodation, meals, ground transportation and visa costs provided to customers with a long stopover. We are currently working through this detail and more information including eligibility requirements will be available shortly.

I'd like to see how Qantas will possibly justify this against their bottom line!

I know they are meant to reciprocate benefits, but now we have a free Dubai stopover and Chauffeur service for J and F. That's not small bikkies if Qantas can't get the throughput required.

I suppose the rationale might be that the offer just might be rarely taken up, especially when we start having a string of incidents of stupid Aussies being imprisoned for violating UAE laws that they didn't bother to heed.

It's been like that for years, IIRC. Often the same in Y. And not just for flights out of Australia, similar applies to flights out of Asia. I don't think DXB is really high on the priority list for many holiday makers from Australia (as a specific destination) but it more sees itself as somewhere people can stopover for a few days enroute.

Not just DXB. If you look on EY's Australian site you'l see an ad for 'sale' fares to AUH which are more expensive than their sale fares to Europe.

Saw the lists of EK codeshare destinations, KBL and FRU not listed, so it seems there are no QF/FZ codeshares, at least not yet.

Cheers skip

How long can you usually hold a seat before payment? I'm playing around with flights to KUL and I saw I could hold a seat without payment until Dec 2013!

Good to know where we stand with QF as PER based customers. Even though QF is abandoning us, they have not even be bothered to setup the forced PER EK code shares prior to sending out advice that 'QANTAS Customers' can now book them. 'QANTAS Customers' obviously excludes PER based travellers.

I have found some J Class flights on EK to and from DXB using the QFF Classic Awards. However no F Class loaded yet as I'm interested to see the points REQ for that. Guess I will keep my eye on the QF sight over the coming weeks.

Also noticed that an EK F Fare is more expensive on the QF site than directly via EK. Guess the will fine tune it as they go.

It's the opposite for J class fares. By $10,000!

Yeah, typical Qantas. Perth is a money maker for them yet they treat it like a bad door mat.

Compared to going via Frankfurt or Singapore it's heaps cheaper booking through Emirates anyways and soon enough if WAC ever finishes the A380 gate it will be A380 Perth - Europe :)

TheInsider,

Interesting that Frankfurt (FRA) is on the list. Potentially this means that QF5/QF6 may have a premature end.
