Excuse me for stating what may be obvious. Qantas hasn't announced anything regarding WP First Lounge access in DXB nor have they mentioned any access for any status level. I really think AUSBT should just keep their mouth shut until QF actually announce something. If you refer to this part of their article:

'Lounge access

A Qantas Frequent Flyer Platinum or Gold card will get you through the doors of the Emirates Business Class Lounge in Dubai Airport and other Emirates Business Class lounges around the world.(The Emirates First Class Lounge is currently restricted to travellers holding a first class ticket.)Qantas says that a Silver frequent flyer card or Qantas Club card will provide entry to "the Emirates lounge in Dubai Airport" and that it’s still working on the issue of access to Emirates Lounges around the world.'

There is no source sited, no spokesperson nothing. I am more than willing to be proven wrong with some actual evidence but until then they shouldn't be getting everyone stirred up.

That's nice... but we all know that there's a bit of journalistic licence here. They are meant to be speculating; it could have been better qualified that way. (One time I made a comment on an AusBT article which sounded a bit alarmist, and their defence / rebuttal was that it was only I who had assumed it was alarmist and in no way did they mention that these are finalised reports, and the article text remained unchanged.)

To put another view forward, the article doesn't actually say that Qantas Platinums will not have access to the EK First Class Lounge in DXB. They don't have it at current (in fact, they have nothing at all), and the fact that they can say that they will have access to the Business Class Lounge in DXB even though it hasn't happened yet is because it would be silly to the point of fatally stupid if Platinums did not have access to the J Lounge in DXB (because then it would near boil down to QF having no lounge at DXB, short of possibly the small and inadequate BA lounge, or the no-announcement-and-improbable QF building their own lounge in DXB).

I know many people will not have the same reasoning I have here and will be stirred up. Mind you, as I said before, there are several EK loyal - 4th tier or no 4th tier on their programme - who are not looking at all forward to non-F passengers occupying the EK First Class Lounge.

In a way, look at VA and EY. VA Platinums only have access to the EY Business Class Lounge in AUH; VA Golds to the Al Reem Lounge. (I'm assuming here that the EY Business Class Lounge is better than the Al Reem Lounge, as is the EK Business Class Lounge is better than the Marhaba Lounge). I know VA Platinums are not given any First Class Lounge benefit and thus don't know any better, unlike QF, but there you have it.

If EK give their 4th tier members access to the F Lounge, then I think that will give some key thrust to the lounge access for QF Platinums consideration. In a parallel data point, EY Gold Elites (their 4th and highest elite tier) do have access to the EY First Class Lounge in AUH regardless of class of travel (albeit they are not allowed a guest at all if they go to the First lounge; they are allowed guests only if they go to the Business or Al Reem Lounges).

Interesting that QF Silvers may benefit in DXB with lounge access (fancy having lounge access to only one lounge located not even at home!), to reflect the Skywards Silver member benefit.

This does pose a question for OWE non-QFF travelling on QF. It is possible or probable that they wont have access to a lounge when travelling in whY - I suspect more than a few OWE will not be keen on that. Mind you OWE in long haul whY is probably not that profitable for QF.

This was an issue raised on FT.

In DXB, BA have a lounge, albeit it is located quite far away from Concourse A. Technically they can use that lounge when travelling on QF operated services.

I don't think OWEs access to EK's lounges (even if restricted only to QF 1/2/9/10) is not on the top of QF's priorities right now; moreover, care factor is probably close to 0.

QF will be operating from the new terminal though, so how will the BA lounge work?

Is Concourse A connected to the existing terminal? Or, is there a shuttle / train?

DXB T1 and T3 airside is actually all one connected concourse, which is why using the BA lounge is possible.

Needless to say, even though it may be technically possible to use the BA lounge, it may not be practical due to the distance and layover times.

Let the wailing begin. No Casablanca or Tunis (wail .......)

Possibly some wailing in the future: :) From the TA FAQs (thanks markis10)

Chauffeur Drive will be complimentary for a capped radius within each city, ...

Radius by time or distance? One hour drive out of Hobart airport is well into the bush, but will likely be the same driving time as, say, just across town for SYD and MEL.

Most chauffeur services (e.g. EK, EY, VS) are usually only bounded by distance radius, not time. Otherwise, there may be some very unhappy people when the limo bumps into traffic.

The distance restriction, of course, is supposed to give an approximate proxy for time, and is also a nominal basis for a fixed payment just as if you had booked with the chauffeur company yourself in advance.

Just checking out some QF pricing ex DXB in May on www.cleartrip.ae

Y+ DXB-LHR $2064 on QF; not so great with AF, VS and BA asking $1324-1385
J DXB-LHR $3776 on QF; pretty competitive with EK to LGW for $3327-3367, BA asking $5019, but VS, AF, TK and others cheaper

Anyone ever flown PS? They were the J giveaway at $1423 DXB-KBP-LGW

Cheers skip

Does anybody know whether the QF codeshares on EK will be eligible sectors in an xONEx?

As the full t&c's have not been announced no-one knows for sure.
But is very very unlikely in my view as no other QF codeshares, with a non OW airlines are eligible.
For a xGLOBx may or may not be eligible.
We all need to wait and see.

We all need to wait and see. The new AA - EK arrangement is a guide

Thanks - as I expected to hear; not what I hoped to hear .

Pardon ignorance - can you explain a xGLOBx?

Anyone know if the new AA codeshares on Qatar from end Feb be allowed on xONEs? Or will we need to wait for Qatar to join OW later in year?

FWIW, both Tunis and Casablanca will be possible on QR. Tunis will also have a RJ option. However I'd expect the QF codeshares to be added to at some stage.

I did Tunis once with QR, ex MEL. I was mildly disappointed with the J product (but my expectations may have been too high). There is (or was) a 19 hour layover on Doha (unavoidable with the flight ex MEL), and they don't give you the free layover hotel deal on flights ex Australia.

I usually go to north Africa on Etihad and get the VA points, but would prefer to go EK and get QF ones. There's always Skywards I guess.

It is very early days yet and I am sure pricing will change, but I put in Syd Nairobi in First on both Zuji and Travel. I got Emirates and Qantas prices on each. choosing Qantas A380 to Dubai and then Emirates to Nairobi for all options. Going via Emirates it was $11,000 pp and via Qantas it was $22,000 pp. That is a very big difference :). I'll keep monitoring it as I am not going until Aug/Sep next year, so have plenty of time for things to settle down and then decide which way to go - the difference in price will nearly pay for all our accommodation in Singita Grumeti!

QF have just put out flights to SIN and BKK on Emirates metal with QF flight numbers.

My questions are,

Will Qantas club have lounge access and other benefits?

Will seat selection, specifically extra leg room seats be available?
