Qantas / Emirates tie up (Partnership inc. Codeshare, Status)

Strangely enough on the One World website :cool:

To say you get all the benefits of OneWorld flying EK under a QF codeshare when it clearly states that they don't apply unless its a operated and marketed carrier dumbfounds me, clearly the spin doctors have an easy job!

Ok new benefit - hadn't seen that. Thing is that EK/QF haven't said that you won't get those benefits when flying EK.

In fact AJ has said that you will get the higher of the two benefits under the two programs. As such you should get the extra luggage afforded to QF SG and WP. Similarly QF WP get express path in Oz so why not when flying EK?

Your confusing QFF benefits with OW benefits, yes QFF benefits will apply but you won't be able to access the Golden Lounge in BNE or KUL or more importantly PER, the AY lounge in Helsinki etc etc and you won't get lounge access when arriving on a OW flight at a OW lounge when your next flight is an EK operated QF codeshare nor use the security express lanes for OW passengers outside of those offered by customs locally.

If I get a free apple due to being QFF WP or being OWE WP I still get a free apple.

In those ports you mention about not being able to access a lounge - what lounge do EK elites use? If you are in a port with an average OW lounge then will the EK lounge be much worse?

As pointed out the free apple as a OWE may not be available as a WP QFF, there are ports with good OW lounges and VERY average QPs and EK facilities, and conversely there are ports with very good EK lounges and poor OW facilities, including my home port. Same same but different

So as a QF WP flying on EK metal out of BNE you can use the EK lounge or the OW lounge in BNE - what OW lounge benefit are you missing out on?

Did you miss the word conversely?? I mentioned BNE as a case where the arrangement will hopefully be a benefit to QFF members as opposed to other situation where it's a negative, of course that's assuming what is promised happens and access to EK lounges for QF pax will be on offer, until its in writing and happening, it's subject to change, like the refurbishment of the F lounge in SIN?

Are QF giving away iPad's?

I think this is why I raised the question - people state "You wont get all your OW benefits" when if fact a) we don't know if these benefits will be extended to QFF WP when flying EK metal and b) we know that some equivalent benefits will be delivered.

Not correct, your certainly don't get all the benefits of OW flying EK under a QF codeshare, such as access to OW lounges that are not a QP. You also don't get the priority security lane etc

You know even when flying OneWorld you don't get all the advertised benifits either. Here is one such example, when I used to fly BA to Dublin (circa 07/08) as a OneWorld Emerald I was not able to access the lounge in Dublin when flying in Y.

But with EK as Qantas FF'ers are spposed to get pretty much the same as we would get. Sure it won't include access to OW lounges, but access will be granted to the EK lounge, and as for priority screening has anything been annouced about that? Besides even though I now read that it is a OneWorld benifit, I think a little * cavet is missing that it is only available at selected ports, as not every airport a OW airlines flies to has it. Canberra for example.

EK don't have a lounge in DUB, they use the terrible DAA lounge in T2. Ey on the other hand have a very nice lounge @ T2. ;)

It was meant as an example of where OW benifits are not always extended to OW passengers even on OW flights.

QF have just put out flights to SIN and BKK on Emirates metal with QF flight numbers.

My questions are,

Will Qantas club have lounge access and other benefits?

Will seat selection, specifically extra leg room seats be available?

Further, with QF-numbered EK metal flights, would you get the chauffer service at all?

Or only for those with EK tickets ?

ED: saw the post by markis10 (#1676) above, yes - Chauffer Service is available for such flights (QF numbered EK metal)
Sorry if it has been covered somewhere in this long thread.

Thanks

How long a connection time is perfect is defined by the standard of lounge you wait in. ;)

Which we really don't have a clue on yet, although I have a feeling if WP don't get the Emirates first lounge there will be a DYKWIA riot.

To answer your question more seriously, anywhere from 1-1.5 hours would be an ideal DXB transit time.

I've got a 4 hour layover (and no lounge access!)...but that is far preferable to coming home via LHR which is several hours in the wrong direction and an additional connection.

Personally I don't like anything under 3 hour transit for international flights unless I'm on the same air raft continuing on. But that's just my preference.

Does that not depend on the length of the flight?

Interesting.

Does this mean if one is flying EK, can they request for upgrades using QFF points?
