Qantas shakes up services between Australia and Asia ahead of Emirates partnership | adelaidenow

Qantas have no information as yet as to how we will be flying back. Was so looking forward to no transit stops in Melbourne/Sydney.

This is pure speculation!

Possible changes to Qantas Platinum qualification.

Emirates will introduce a new frequent flyer tier - Emirates Platinum.
The bar for this Tier will be high ie 100,000 Tier Miles.
Emirates Platinum will have access to F lounges.
Qantas will be required to raise the bar for Platinum to match Emirates Platinum qualtification ie qualification @ 1800 SC's - retain @ 1,600 SC's.

Can't see it happening, how will they justify people getting 1800SC when almost half that is required on VA?

I agree, I don't think it is possible as the outcry would be too great.

I don't think raising the level to 1800 SC is entirely non-feasible. It would be taking a sword to the body, but there you go. It will probably alienate a lot of existing Platinums on this forum.

Another thought is they will raise the bar, but not that high.

100,000 Tier Miles on EK is not entirely a high bar, depending on what benefits will be afforded to Skywards Platinum. Don't forget that the majority of EK flights are long haul, which means those tier miles come in quite readily. Basically the same as QF - it's double the previous tier, Gold.

Certainly I don't immediately see the typical EK elite switching to QFF because it's an easier programme to get Platinum. Don't forget that the best benefits of a FFP are usually afforded to those who travel on the host airline.

Because for the international traveller, the benefits between QF Platinum and VA Platinum are arguably different. Maybe they scale for the relative sizes of the benefits. There's a healthy discussion about this somewhere.

The domestic travelling Platinum, however, may be strongly thinned out.

I agree, I don't think it is possible as the outcry would be too great.

Don't say no... since when has even AFF screamed about something QF has done and there has been a backflip?

This forum probably lays into QF more than Tony Abbott lays into the Labour party. At least TA gets a reaction and someone arrested; we get nothing.

(Possibly the only exception: arrivals access for WPs into domestic lounges after ATA was removed)

The only time QF might actually listen to us in earnest is if all of us social-media-bomb QF, launch a concerted DDoS attack, led a protest at Coward Street or... simply walk away. No one has the guts, of course, even though I'm confident that the WPs alone on this board probably account for at least $20 million of revenue annually for Qantas.

+1800

QF would sink.....

Don't forget there are still several flyers / elites who fly almost without consideration and they are Platinums in their own right. They are not necessarily like us who strategise carefully our attainment / retaining of status.

I think this is why I raised the question - people state "You wont get all your OW benefits" when if fact a) we don't know if these benefits will be extended to QFF WP when flying EK metal and b) we know that some equivalent benefits will be delivered.

I thought the clincher was you needed a QF flight number to be deemed OW entitled, lounge wise. Or did I miss something

Suspect it would be announced like this...

Up Yours with enhanced access to Qantas Platinum One benefits

Today, Qantas Group Chief Executive Alan Joyce announced the second wave of enhancements for its top tier frequent flyers. This enhancement will make it much easier to step up from Platinum to Platinum One status.

'We have reviewed our threshold levels for status benefits, and made some improvements which we think will particularly appeal to our most valuable passengers' said Joyce. 'Market testing has told us that frequent flyers consider it a long jump from the existing platinum level to the very desirable platinum one status' he added.

Now, we've made it much easier to get from Platinum to Platinum One. Currently, Platinum status is achieved through accumulation of 1,400 status credits for first time qualifiers, with only 1,200 required to requalify, and only four flights required to be on Qantas services. By contrast, Platinum One members need 3,600 status credits, with 2,700 required to be on Qantas marketed flights.

By revising up the threshold level for platinum benefits from 1400 to 1800 points (both qualify and retain) and adding a requirement for 1,350 of those points to be on Qantas marketed flights, Qantas has restored some symmetry to the Platinum threshold levels.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant added that a new marketing campaign will explain the benefits to its frequent flyers. 'Up Yours with Qantas' features a series of advertisements that will explain he benefits of ultimate status'.

The Up Yours campaign will show how it will now be so much easier for its Platinum flyers to reach the ultimate Qantas Frequent Flyer Status under the revised rules.

Lesley also provided some background to the change. 'Alan came to marketing, and said the sales numbers weren't big enough. He said he wanted to see bigger numbers across the board. So we gave him just that' she gushed.

Cheers skip:D.

They need the masses - simple as that.

Didn't take too long for the GFC to wipe out many a business plan. The fringes pay for bugger all!

Just a quick comparison.

DXB-SYD-DXB in J on EK earns 16550 (J saver) or 22500 (flexi J). So to hit EK Gold you need three returns in J DXB-SYD. To hit 100K Platinum (speculation) you would need roughly six trips (saver) or four (flexi).

Similar trips in J on QF you would need two trips to retain Gold and four trips to retain WP at current levels. That compares favourably to EK (speculation) WP. If QF raised the bar to 1600 that would be five trips - the mid point for (speculation) WP on EK between saver and flexi J.

QF are codesharing with EK to Nairobi.

Interesting that there are still no QF/EK codeshare options to NBO yet? I have been keeping an eye on this for several weeks but nothing has materialised. The only options that appears now is the QF SYD - JNB then SAA JNB - NBO, not even the Kenya Airways via BKK that used to appear so presumably BKK - NBO has ceased.

We currently have J tickets booked for SYD - JNB to do a safari in the Serengeti followed by sunning it in the Seychelles and I was looking to see if we could do SYD - DXB - NBO then SEZ - DXB - SYD. Maybe wishful thinking on my part that we would be able to do this!

Precisely. EK will match QF methinks

I think QF will match EK. EK's Platinum requires 150,000 miles for qualification.

And Simon Hickey had stated
Qantas International CEO David Hickey hinted at this in a recent interview with Australian Business Traveller, when in response to our questions regarding the airlines' different policies for frequent flyer access to first class lounges, he replied "We're aligning everything."
and EK wouldn't want EK elites to switch to QF (as qualification is easier) IMHO QF will raise the requirements/re-qualification to 1800/1600 SC's. I concede this may be at the higher end of the spectrum for qualification, but i can't foresee the qualification bar not being raised.
