Qantas extends current status Until at least March 2021

For the airline - it's about not losing you to a competitor.

Qantas is trapped. They need to keep extending or take the revenue hit.

Agree - this is nothing to do with looking after the passenger, everything to do with QF's bottom line in future.

Not only is there a risk of losing you to a competitor, but they also want to get people converting air fares to credit vouchers rather than a cash refund. Locking in your status will make some choose the credit rather than cash.

And to add to that, if people think they have been looked after/ that loyalty means something, then they will be more likely to stick with QF for longer (for those who have choices on the airline they fly)

I don't think even Qantas will have decided yet, but I'm sure they will do something nearer the time.
