Qantas extends current status Until at least March 2021

I really do appreciate the gesture, and I know given the challenges airlines, and indeed the whole world is facing, this will sound incredibly selfish, but here goes anyway.

Unfortunately, this won't be of any use to me, as I've already retained P1 until May 2021, so won't qualify for the status extension. Given the COVID-19 situation is expected to last at least six months, it means I'll get maybe six or seven decent months of use of the benefits I've actually earned, and then I'll likely no longer be P1, as I won't have returned to adequate flying to retain for 2022.

I know this is a completely self-centered view, but it's a scenario I'm sure many of us are facing. Just want to put it out there for discussion!

Hopefully they consider adjusting on a rolling basis depending on how long this situation goes on. Having said that, they may not be in a position to if it really drags.
Dont sweat it, there`s not much difference between platinum and platinum 1. No difference whatsoever on domestic.

A mystery. And following your link, I see that my forward year as Platinum has not been credited as yet. No point contacting QF at present. Wait till the dust settles.
It won't be credited yet - see this snippet: (There's another week advertised before the first lot of extensions)
The extension will be actioned in two phases - if your membership year ends:

  • between March and June 2020, it will be automatically extended by 27 March 2020; and
  • between July 2020 and February 2021, it will be automatically extended by 9 April 2020.

I was happy to receive the email. I would have requalified if not for COVID-19. The flights are still in my account and as yet haven't been cancelled, but they won't be flown.

but honestly... aren't there slightly more important things going on in the world, and probably for your own personal life/family/friends than an airline status?

I'm certainly disappointed I don't get anything - but to be honest my main priority is that Qantas doesn't fold. With around 600,000 points and 13,000 SCs (so close to LTG) I'll be happy if we get through this and I still have my points and can get LTG within the first six months of flying. Not to mention how incredibly sad it would be if we lost our national carrier - even more personal for me as my late grandfather used to be a pilot for them.

I don't think that's a remote possibility, not unless this gets much worse than expected.

This is good news for me. My status rolls of in January so will have til the end of next year as Gold now. I was looking at pushing Platinum this year but things stopped real quick the first week of Feb for me and doesn't look like picking up for months at least. Was due for a few international trips to USA, Canada, NZ the first 6 months this year, all cancelled completely.

Oh well maybe I will use this year to stay home more and not worry about status etc. and start again next year. Or perhaps I will work on Virgin status if I start flying more again!

So for those of us resetting at the end of the month who’ve already requalified, looks like we are the worst off - no benefit and we’ll have 6 months or more of our next year out of action with no flights.

There was always going to be winners or losers. Or at least winners and non-winners.
I'm still 530SCs short to requalify by May 2020 so happy with this decision as I was looking for ways to requalify and was happy to see this email.

Those with requalification date of 28 Feb 2021 have scored well.

I think VA has done something similar but I'll more than likely requalify there anyway.

I did predict this of course.... having the unique talent to predict the future is a double-edged sword....
Saw an ad for the latest reality TV cooking/home-renno/dating show.... don't have the heart to tell them it will fail coz it looks cough...
Reminds me of a friend of ours who suffers from NPD. He thinks he can see the future and he's an expert on everything. Unfortunately, he also thinks he can fly...so I had to break it to him that, despite all of his super powers, even he won't be flying anywhere anytime soon...😎
Stay home, stay safe and be kind to others

Well good news for me - Bronze for an additional 12 months  somehow in these most difficult times retaining status does not seem very important - but then even though I travel for leisure extensively I don't chase status (mainly due to using FF points whenever possible).

What was your expiry?

Mine still indicated October 2020.

My extension was also applied yesterday. I still have my status credits as they are not due to expire until 31 March.

This is a good thing for me. I can also imagine it has a great benefit for QFF team whom wont be fielding repetitious questions and pleas for the next year.

I think I'm interpreting this right, my renewal is 31st December 2020, so does this mean I'll retain my current Platinum status to 31st December 2021?
This is all too confusing at the moment. With a May 2020 expiry this now means my Platinum status is extended until May 2021?

Do I need to earn 1200 SCs by May 2021 to keep Platinum status for another year? This could be a very short earning period trying to retain Platinum if current travel restrictions last 6-12 months.

Those whose membership year expires later in year or early next year will have a distinct advantage over those whose membership year is expiring in next few months.
