Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

I will wait till at least tomorrow before booking just in case there are any issues with the computer systems going by GMT despite what the offer T&Cs say.
It is 12:42am GMT now so it should be O.K. but it doesn’t hurt to wait at least one extra day.

The rollover provision certainly gives some incentive to fly. It will also help in the following year given that normal operations (what ever that means nowadays) may not be back until '24. It certainly provides some certainty for planning.

My rollover is end September, worst comes to worst I'll book a short redemption flight on the 29th, but will otherwise hope there will be a DSC promotion between now and then that I'll make a booking during.

Notably I got a 3x points for flying to NSW offer in my inbox today.

I'm not sure if the largesse would be extended to a DSC promotion - but we can hope!
The ability as a Plat to roll over 500 SC to the following year means, if I'm reading correctly, that one only needs 700SC to retain status in the following year.

I think the fact that they have extended status in 2021 and now2022, is why we haven't seen any DSCs.

I predict we wont see any DSCs before Sept/Oct, and only if they do not plan to extend status again for Jan-Jun anniversaries.

I got an email just now offering a status extension. My anniversary is 31 Dec 2022, currently QF Platinum. My understanding is my Platinum will be extended to 31 Dec 2023, if I book a QF flight between now & 31 Dec 2022.

The thing is, I booked 6 international flights on QF last week. Wondering if those 6 flights will count towards this offer OR do I need to make a new booking to be eligible for the extension?

Any thoughts?

It is very clear. They will not. You need a new booking.

per: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs/status/status-support.html

If I have already made a booking before 28 February 2022, will it still contribute towards the one booking condition?
No. The booking creation date must be on or after 28 February 2022 and before your status end date as per the table above.

Only new bookings will count for status extention but do status credits already earned roll over or only for new SC earned after Feb 28 will be rolled over ?

Up to 500 of a WP's status credits* earned in the current "membership year" up to end of Oct/Nov/Dec (depending on when your "Year" ends) will roll over if you book that flight.

*(as per the example give on the web page)

Same here. Need to make a new booking by the end of my current year: August 31. Also, will roll over up to 500 SCs (WP) to next year if *earned* this year (my emphasis and I'm guessing that will be QF emphasis).

The bookings have to be made FROM today. Any flights already in you basket will not count toward status extension.

But I didn’t read in the rules anything about cancelling and rebooking (such were the terms with DSC promotions). The rules do state that credit vouchers can be used to book an eligible flight.

Can we conclude that a DSC offer in the coming months is unlikely to happen at this stage?

Funnily enough I was just reading the latest DSC update and thinking to myself "does the extension now remove the need for a DSC for most people?"

[Edited to Ignore]: I'm guessing it depends how far out this latest extension offer goes with respect to end of membership year - anyone later than August 31 (me) received it?

I'm thinking those whose membership year finishes Jan or Feb 23 have enough time to earn retained status.

I’m not so sure on that. Just because they are extending status it doesn’t follow they don’t want people to book many flights. It just means that they feel it won’t be realistic for many of the customers. I would think they will still want what revenue they can get.

If they don’t do DSC I may not do a trip I had been hoping to do or possibly consider using a competitor airline.

It’s not targeted. It’s for everyone whose status year ends July-December 2022.

The forward planners will still take advantage of any DSC offers (those going for LTG but also to maximise the rollover and make the next year retention a little easier.

I missed out on a whole bunch of rollovers from last year through cancelled travel unfortunately with this latest extension coming fairly late into my year, I probably won’t be able to get a lot of extra SCs to rollover. But still very happy this finally landed!

I certainly want to progress towards LTG too. I would only book J long haul if I can get DSC. The status extension doesn’t change that.

Well first of all if QF cancel a flight then you're good to go. That is clear.

Second, imo, just as with DSC validity, if one cancels a flight but it is still within the validity period for the extension, then it will apply.

So for example, membership anniversary 30 Nov, one books a flight in April to fly MEL-BNE for travel 15th November. Eligible flight.

1. If QF cancels it. No problem. Extended
2. If pax cancels and uses flight credit (with the same PNR) and books new flight both prior to 30 November and for travel before 31 December then eligible.
3. If pax cancels flight and makes a new booking via other means - again if it's still before 30 Nov and for travel before 31 Dec then eligible
4. If pax cancels flight, but uses credit to book on 2nd December for a flight - then ineligible.

clear as mud? :)

Is it really that late in the year? Even if your anniversary date is 31 July, that still gives five months of further travel(including the last 7) for SC's to be accrued to rollover. OK it's not half the year, but it's not a month to go.

And of course if it's a December anniversary date well they have 9 moths.....
