Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

I wonder if there will be no further status extensions. At some point QANTAS has got to expect people to start flying the normal amount to retain status again.
I am just guessing that we have seen the last of them. AU opened in Nov 21 so that gives everyone 12 months of travel, the choice is now with the individual to travel or not.

Only Qantas knows the numbers, but realistically I think we may see some form of assistance until corporate travel returns to normal. It's often the corporate traveller that is able to gain status.

I reckon we'll see a lot of bonus SC or ground SC offers in the next 12 months, but the extensions are over
I hope this is correct, with another properly timed dsc i can make WP for genuine trips not pure status run.. Given no work flying id be chuffed i achieved it all on personal travel.

I am pretty sure QF have already had a go at bonus SC for corporate travel. It was in either 2018 or 2019 when QF seemed to be testing the waters for targeted or route offers there was an offer made to all employees of the Firm I work for for 50% SC bonus for any travel booked through the corporate booking engine (AMEX). There was no need to register or do anything other than to book travel and the bonus SCs hit you account. From memory the booking window was generous around three months however travel had to completed within 30 days of making booking, this makes perfect sense as IME most corporate bookings are booked and travelled within a few weeks.

I have a 31 January anniversary date and I have come to terms that “there is no more” & hence my AKL status runs are lined up for Dec 2022.

I qualified for my Jan 2021 renewal with my flights done in Feb and March 2020 already (corporate spend) and hence really got only gifted my “Jan 2022” status extension by QF while others probably got the benefit of 3 years worth of extensions (in Dec 2020 for 2021, in Dec 2021 for 2022, and in Dec 2022 for 2023). Yes, life is miserable as such but at the same time, life goes on (somehow).

I think it will be a while yet before Corporate Travel returns to the level it was pre March 2020. Many corporates must be like my own and some of our customers: they have learnt to live without the need to travel and are reluctant to open the coffers for "unnecessary cost additions". It will take time for the coal-face workers to persuade the Execs otherwise.

In the meantime, I do foresee increased DSC offers - anything that will entice any sort of additional revenue for QF. Their figures for 2021/22 will be interesting enough this month, their commentary around how they forecast the next 12 months moreso.

Regards,

BD

Hi All, just checking that I can book my Status extension flight as a Classic Flight Reward and be within the requirements?
Had hoped to get the UK for a business trip but looks like CFO has put an end to that. I think a day trip to the Sydney lounge will get me over the line. I want to retain Gold as we have a family trip to USA planned for next year and the lounge access will be good.

Yes. You have to be on the flight, not just book it.

Re the status credit rollover; is it the case that only status credits earnt flying will rollover into the new membership year? Ie last years rolled over status support rollover won’t rollover into this year?

Eg In May 2021 I had 235 status credits rollover with the description “STATUS SUPPORT = STATUS CREDIT ROLLOVER” and I earnt an additional 75 status credits last year from actual flying giving me a total of 310 for the year. However only 75 status credits have rolled over this year. Does that sound correct?

Yes, that’s correct. SCs do not roll over a second time, just the once. The previous rollover was to help with your year just finished.

Yes, that's correct. It's all spelled out on the Status Support page.

My platinum membership expires Oct 22 and I have not flown with Qantas at all this year. If I book and take a flight now (or before Oct 31) will I get the extension or was there a “book by” clause I’ve missed? TIA

It’s a very generous extension.

QF’s hope would be that after doing the flight to qualify for the extension that flyers find it isn’t that bad and resume flying more frequently again.

I don't fully agree with this. All recent flights (both int'l and dom) that I have been on have been very full with a lot of business travel. At some point QF is also going to need to purge the number of people with WP/SG status that have only retained status due to the extensions.

I'm not sure you can throw that blanket assumption out there re corporate travel. There are a lot of businesses that haven't been able to visit their overseas operations for a long time so are making up for it currently (my place of work and others that I know of). At this stage I'm on track for my highest SC year yet and I am not quite 5 months into my membership year.

Given the current level of forward bookings (particularly on QF flagship routes and factoring current capacity constraints), I cannot see the need for them to offer DSC in the short term. Plus, DSC was typically targeted at the leisure traveller to try and entice them to make a booking they don't necessarily need. Corporate travel on the other hand is less discerning - I can't imagine going to my boss and saying that I suddenly need to get across to the UK as QF has a DSC offer

It should update automatically when the year rolls over,
Did you get an email confirming this?
I have a friend who has been unable to get this fixed and my own account doesn’t reflect any of my rollover at all going towards my 2700.
By contrast a colleague who has never been P1 has all of their rollover showing as counting towards P1. It’s pretty frustrating that they haven’t fixed this online.
