Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

Even outside of DSC if you are travelling on QF award flights in J or F the SC earn from PC is quite good. 112SC for SYD-LHR on QF1 in J

With a July 31 anniversary I knew there be no help for next year, so did leverage the March DSC (mostly for forward bookings Sept-Jan), but a good whack are from PC outside of DSC, partner flights (thankfully J on US domestic is much cheaper than Aus domestic) and will still need to find approx 150SCs between Feb and July '24 which will hopefully happen organically if there is another J sale to Fiji or Noumea for a 5 day weekend somewhere.

My long weekend in NZ (Jan23 and Jan24) booked during DSCs are the only actual status runs and even then i do end up staying a couple of days to visit with friends; the rest is just being ready to book other travel Id do anyway when the offers are right.

I had planned to do that, but changed my mind. Going to try and retain WP.
Same. But hoping I can cancel a couple of awards bookings I made in new year as part of points member. Big trip in Dec Jan the main player.

Hi,
I may not make enough status points to continue Platinum this year ( problems with getting flights recognised by QFF) .
I am wondering as I have several flights later this year already booked, if my status on the BP will reflect status when i booked or on the ? reduced day the BP is printed.
I am guessing it is the latter but I am ever optimistic .

Current status as at date of flight, but you can always select seats while you're still Platinum...

It is the status the day you fly on QF.

On AA they seem to tag the status when you booked, so if you level up you need to have check-in agent fix it such that BP shows correct status, so you would maybe get away with it if you drop a level and say nothing on AA.

Some years ago I encountered that issue In the crossover period like during the days / weeks after end of month when the “demoted” SG physical card hadn’t arrived and I was off to the USA

From memory
The physical BP said bad luck demoted while the WP card you’re still in.
At LAX AA gave me the benefit of the doubt (bluff your way in nicely)
On the return trip they didn’t as that was some weeks later.

PS I NOTE back then at JFK there was one entrance for everyone flying QF to LAX and you were directed right to the J lounge
one could turn for example turn left to the WP Lounge 😜 and just plead “didn’t know which way to go”

I think it depends on the operating airline's system as to whether its able to synch or not. I remember flying with EK once having moved from SG to WP between booking and flying, absolutely nothing we tried would get the EK system to recognise my new status: removing and re-adding the QFF number, trying to get the Station Manager to override ... nothing. In the end I missed out on the First Lounge at DXB. Hopefully, this would work the same with a downgrade.

Regards,

BD

I fall into the July 31 expiry bucket too so feel it is inevitable I will lose Platinum in just over a month... does anyone know if there is an email contact where I can plead my case for an extension (however unlikely it may be).

Selfishly, I'm going away in August and so would be great for a last hurrah in F lounge in Sydney!

They sometimes give you the option to extend your WP for points, at least they used to but who knows these days.

How far are you from retaining Platinum status?

Well you could always fly a cheap JQ or QF domestic flight that departs out of the INTL terminal to access the Flounge as the last hurrah.

Does anyone have experience with getting rollover SC's credited in arrears when the flight wasn't originally credited before the end of the status year? Here is my situation: WP, flew JQ in Dec '22 and flight never appeared. My status year ends Dec 31, and on Jan 1, I was credited with 295 rollover SC's which was correct at the time not counting the missing flight. After waiting the necessary period I applied for, and eventually received the missing 45 SC's (and points) for the JQ flights, which were credited in Feb '23. However, these 45 SC's were immediately reversed with the comment "Expired SC's" which is understandable at first glance, since the SC's were credited after the end of the status year to which they belonged. But since I should be eligible for up to 480 rollover SC's, my understanding is I should be able to get those additional 45 SC's re-credited - is that right?

Response from QFF is as follows, which I don't quite understand - I haven't reached that 40% cap, so why I am not eligible for those missing SC's to be added to the rollover?

Our sincere apologies for the delayed response and we understand that your email query about your tier status. We have review your concern, and we can say that rollover accrued Status Credits for eligible members up to a cap of at least 40% of the Status Credits required to retain their tier, from their eligible Membership Year to help kick-start their new Membership Year. Your missing status credit has been added to your expired status credit. Please be advised that status credits don't expire but are reset at the start of every membership year so we can't reinstate it. All Status Credits earned since joining the program are added together and count towards your Lifetime Status Credit total. Once you have enough Status Credits, Lifetime Silver or Gold recognition will be yours, regardless of how often you continue to fly.

Is this a case of DASA (Delete and Send Again, a cousin to HUACA) ? By the way, my original email was written on March 21 and I received the response yesterday, on 14 June - almost three months later! I am not sure if these 45 SC's will make or break my attempt to retain WP, but I don't really want to leave this one hanging if it might.

Also, should I be offended they didn't mention that I could make lifetime Platinum (ha.).

2020, they extend everyone's status for a year. Didn't need it, had already retained platinum from trip in late 2019.
2021, they tell us to at least book something to retain status for another year. I book a trip to AKL. Which then got cancelled because Sydney got covid, expanded it to half the country and NZ popped the travel bubble. (I also never got a full refund for this cancellation)
2022, they again tell us to book something to retain status. I do so, then they tell us we don't need to.

Assume you can only call/email the usual frequent flyer contacts.

I seriously doubt any dispensation would be given unless you were within 10SCs of requalifying (there was a post upthread of someone who was 1 SC short being extended). But by the 31st July (and that is my anniversary too) borders will have been open for 19 months; so they will deem it as more than ample time to earn those 1200SCs (and there was a DSC as well).

then they tell us we don't need to.
Only true if you FF year end is 30 June or earlier. Some of us have had to fly loads to retain/uplift status for 2024.

Did you write to frequent flyer or customer care? The doubtful wording suggests the reply came from Manila. If that was customet care it's a disturbing development...

It was frequent flyer, which I believe is based in Manila as you say.
