Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

I think this is stretching the bounds of any T's & C's to be issuing this card on the assumption that I will use it and therefore automatically enrol in the programme.

I don't know what the T&C's on the back say, but on the front it is evident that you will only be enrolled when you use the card. At that point it looks as though they will trade info as well.

Guess I wasn't clear on that - I meant the T's & C's of my existing QFF Membership and sending me unsolicited offers.

Rereading your post, I see what you mean - does seem to be a bit of a stretch if you have indicated you don't want partner offers.

Did the EDR card you got have your name printed on the front of it? If so, slightly more useful than the generic cards which can often be mistaken for any others if you don’t keep track of it.

Haven’t received a card from them, but as I’m already accumulating points with woolies, like most in this forum, I guess they don’t see the need.

If you haven’t mentioned this before, then someone else did mention it at one stage, but can’t remember how long it was ago.

Yes - had my name pre-printed on the front of the card... only received the letter and card this week, so hadn't posted previously....

which sucks, because now he will use his card to earn the points instead of the one i gave him ;):p
I have also given cards out to my parents, brother, MIL and sister-in-law. They are interested in the points but are happy for me to get them in my kids accounts.

Yeah, it is a bit of a stretch to think that everyone wants an EDR card. (Or can use one - I can't unless Woolworths (online only after going bankrupt) over here accepts them ;) ). Even though it isn't currently linked, surely there must have been a data transfer already of personal information.

Still waiting for mine to turn up, unless they cleansed their database of people living overseas like me - after some brainbox from Qantas saw an earlier post of mine!

While not strictly related to points earning, I’ve received a “buy a Nokia from Big W and receive a 15¢ fuel discount” offer this week. Unfortunately, I don’t want a Nokia… :p

It’s targeted too.

That's correct. From the T&C's:

You can use your Card at Woolworths/Safeway Supermarkets (“Supermarkets”), BIG W stores ("BIG W Stores"), CALTEX WOOLWORTHS/SAFEWAY co-branded fuel outlets (“Fuel Outlets”), Woolworths/Safeway Liquor, BWS stores (“BWS stores”), **** Smith or Tandy store. The Everyday Rewards Program does not operate in:
 Supermarkets or Woolworths/Safeway Liquor or BWS stores in Tasmania; and
 **** Smith and Tandy stores which are franchisee and reseller stores.

It's only Safeway/Woolies and BWS that are excluded in TAS.

And find me the Big W in Devonport.Being on call for the next 16 days means no trip to Lonny and besides driving 160km just to get a 15c voucher instead of a 4c voucher doesnt seem too smart.

I got a 100 bonus points for $20 or more worth of meat from Woolies email today. But I'm a vegetarian!

(no I'm not).

It does say that the offer is for my card number only. But if the accounts are linked I assume that if Mrs Warks uses her card (as she does the shopping) the points will come anyway.

And I am certain the whole aim of the EDR card is data mining for Woolworths. What better legal way to get more a handle on buying habits, time you shop, amount you spend, who does the shopping etc. Woolworths use the data for themselves but also sell it at a fantastic price to companies that sell stuff in store. Having worked with consumer goods people they were all about the data.

There are immense data banks about people already in Australia. This is not much different - for example, Woolies could link a credit card with the purchases it made over the last 12 months and have similar information. As is noted here, people tend to have a 'favourite' credit card and use that whenever possible.

It doesn't mean I'm against or for EDR - just that the information is freely available.

BTW - Credit card companies profile customers based on their spending too... It would be interesting to know what Amex thinks my profile is! ;)

I'm guessing this allows Woolies to access the data directly rather than through credit card companies who would charge a bob or two.
It also allows them to do these offers and see how well targeted they are so they can sell the concept to FMCG companies.
(everyone knows what that stands for don't they?)

.

I think you assume wrongly.

Linking just links the fuel discount and not QF points.

Also if it is targetted to a card..it is targetted to a card and not anyone that it is linked to (unless the t&c in the offer extend it).

I now go to Woolworths/Safeway more than I do Coles because of the QF points for every dollar over $30 spent. However, if you go to pickup just a few odds and ends (spend under $30) then I do not swipe my Woolies card and will also go to Coles. Why? - no incentive - no fuel discount no QF points for less than $30.
SO Woolies will not be getting a complete snapshot of what I am spending and my form of payment for these purchases.
Woolies need to incentivise every purchase. For example a weekly/monthly random draw for all shoppers to have the chance of winning 5000 points.
This would make me swipe my card every time, and possibly change my spend patterns even more toward Woolies.

Yes I've had them ask for my EDR card when it's been under $30 and I've said why bother? Maybe they are asked to ask? Anything's better than being asked for fricking Fly Buys card which I've never owned.

Occasionally there’s special promotions where every spend gets you in a draw, but you need to swipe.
