Qantas FF and Woolworths create new loyalty alliance

Having heard about some of the lengths that a fruit and vege supplier has to go to in order to supply Woolies I feel assured that it is fresh when sent to Woolies.

If you ever get bored, have a read through the Woolies supplier guides ( http://www.wowlink.com.au ) It amazes me at times how many hoops they get suppliers to jump through.

Yet they still screw the suppliers over for the lowest price and charge more than the local fruit/veggie shop
Indeed, I've heard that they screw them and also that the supplier has to basically pick up and inspect each individual piece of fruit or vege.

Yet they still have rubbish end up in the shop. :confused:

...and we are paying dearly for all that inspection. A lot of perfectly good, but slightly blemished, fruit and veg is going to waste. There is also aquestion of how long fruit and veg is stored, notwithstanding the delivery requirements of the producers.

It's not so much doubts about the suppliers that I have, but about their own procedures. I've seen rough treatment and handling of produce (despite how those boxes are meant to be used), and produce that is definitely not fresh. That doesn't mean that it's the suppliers fault however.

Yeah, plenty of abuse goes on between receiving and purchase - this happens all through the chains. The best indicator is looking at slow moving produce like garlic and seeing how bad the imported junk looks.

Swap your fuel savings for Qantas Frequent Flyer points when you redeem a fuel
saving voucher *

How it works:

1. Spend $30 in one transaction at Woolworths supermarkets (excluding Tasmania) and
present your Everyday Rewards card to have your fuel saving voucher loaded onto your card.

2. Follow the steps below to swap your fuel savings for Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

3. Present your Everyday Rewards card when you fill up at participating CALTEX
WOOLWORTHS co-branded fuel outlets to receive 2 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per litre*.

Note: If you want to swap fuel savings for points, you must choose your preference online
before filling up. Once you choose your preference, every time you fill up your fuel saving
voucher will be redeemed according to your preference as either Qantas Frequent Flyer
points or fuel savings. Preferences can only be updated once a month. See terms and
conditions for more information.

Promotional fuel saving vouchers

To calculate the number of points you will receive on fuel saving vouchers greater than 4
cents per litre, simply divide the value by 2. E.g. a 10c per litre fuel saving voucher will be
swapped for 5 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per litre.

A standard 4c discount, is 2 QFF points / L.
 
So if I put in 50L of fuel I earn 100FF points. If I am paying say $1.24/l standard and $1.20/l if discounted the 100FF points cost me $2 so I am paying 2c/point which is above the generally accepted value of 1c/point that a lot of people work to.

1c/point...... That's not even worth my time. Luckily I value them much much much much more than that :)
 
Considering the recent trend in fuel prices, and the fact I save only a few dollars per filling, the swap to points seems acceptable for me. I’ll certainly do more with the points than the $5 I’ll save on fuel each month :p

Now I’m looking forward to a 16¢ fuel voucher and a chance to fill up the 4WD at last :D

I guess the key to this, if anyone is actually keen on it, is carrying two cards (linked), one marked points, the other discount, and choosing which card to use depending on what you really need.

Just took 500pts for nothing thanks to the referral offer they put out earlier in the month. A nice amount of points for little to no effort on my part.
 
Also got the letter from Qantas. I think I will skip this. Instant discount is always better than points!
 
Wow, I'm pretty surprised about the negative feeling about the fuel earing offer. This seems to be on the basis of redemption value for points but doesn't seem to consider the earning cost of points. Essentially points from fuel purchases will cost 2 cents/point. What are cheaper ways to earn points?

It is of course very hard to determine the real cost of a point earned from other purchase methods so lets consider the gross cost.

Fuel 50L@$1.20 = $60 and 100 points = 60 cents per point
Credit cards 67 to 100 cents per point.
Flying $80 special fare minimum distance, 1000 points = 8 cents per point.
My average weekly shop $250, 220 points 114 cents per point.

Sure flying is good value, but then it seems to me that fuel is no worse that other mentions to earn points. The fuel offer also provides a transparent points price being directly related to the forgone fuel discount.
