Qantas will free up more "redemption seats" on its most in-demand international routes – including to London, New York and Singapore – during popular travel periods for frequent flyers to book using points.
In the biggest shake-up in the 32-year history of its loyalty program, Qantas has promised to address the most pressing "pain points" experienced by its 12.6 million frequent flyers – most notably, now difficult it can be to use points to secure seats on the dates they want to fly, such as during school holidays.
In a win for its 12.6 million loyalty card holders, Qantas has promised to make it easier to book a seat using points redemption on popular international routes such as Australia to London or New York. "We will be significantly boosting the availability of seats for frequent flyers to book, particularly on international flights: that's the No. 1 thing our members want," a Qantas source told The Australian Financial Review on Wednesday. "They save their points and look forward to taking their dream holiday to Europe or the United States or wherever – only to find it can be hard to get a seat on points.
"So there will be a big increase in availability of seats on those popular routes."
