Qantas FF announcement 20 June - "biggest overhaul" in program history

Hi all, has anyone worked out if you book your OWR before Sept and then make changes after that etc if it will stick at 280k for a J seat? And also if the change fee is the same?

Meh, just looked a bit more into it- coughpy cattle class seats that most of us don't want get reduced a bit while the only worthwhile redemptions in J or F as well as upgrades become more expensive. And Lifetime Platinum has such a high bar of entry that I personally do not expect to ever reach it. So meh meh meh, the usual Qantas "enhancement", nothing else :(

Start building up KF miles and come over to where everything is just so suites :)

to better represent the true value of this premium experience

This is my personal opinion : I'm not entirely sure if the premium cabins on QF metal reflect the value of the increase in points.

From experience : Some of the premium seats I traveled weren't working properly or the experience altogether wasn't that great. It's not all seats or all flights, some flights, some seats were not that great and if one landed on that seat or that flight then one's opinion about the value of premium w/ QF would vary.

So if it took me 50,000 points to upgrade from Saver Y to J on HKG-SYD A380 last month and if my experience on that flight or that instance wasn't great, I'd find it hard to shell out more points more than 50,000 (with the new policy) for a J seat on A380. Just my thoughts

But that being said, in most cases I've loved flying w/ QF in premium cabins and have got some amazing 5* experiences as well :)

That's crazy - standard SYD-HKG J without upgrade is only 60,000!

Yes, so it's much better to "buy" the fare completely using points, but in my case, my employer only buys Saver or Flex Y, unfortunately and then upgrade with my points :(

Corrected. With credit card issuers throwing around 100K+ signup bonuses willy nilly, is anyone surprised that the current situation is not sustainable?

Lifetime Gold means Oneworld Sapphire means lounge access. Don't see them taking that away. (That chart didn't include priority bags / boarding / security either).

Had I known 7 years ago that lifetime platinum was coming I would have flown QF exclusively instead of including VA, SQ, AA, CX into the mix.

As a result, I sit here with 29k status credits ... when I think I could be sitting at 53-57k.... okay so still a ways away

So your.situation amongst many others proves people walked away from loyalty.

Those who stayed on and continued to earn QF SCs will WIN from this. Those who didn’t won’t.

Just think of it this way, after Ansett collapsed QF didn’t record my STatus with them. I started at ZERO and I had shown no loyalty to them choosing to “Golden Wing “ it

The question for QF is “will lapsed loyalists return to the fold?”

Doubtful as it’s proably now a bridge too far

PS VIA DSC one could attain / retain Platinum domestically for around $5600/5250 (given status credit bonus offered on base SCs

Overall the changes announced today are pretty encouraging in my eyes.
With so much speculation that QF were about to revert to a purely revenue based status - it was pleasing to see this not introduced.
Whilst LTP will be immensely challenging for most of us to achieve, it’s pleasing that QF have at least introduced it.
I’m really intrigued with the “points club” - it’s pleasing to see QF finally reward those frequent flyers who earn a stack of points on the ground and now earn some recognition for it.
Of course the full details are yet to be revealed, but sounds promising nonetheless .

Exactly, who really wants to fly up the back anyway. ;)

Qantas flew 22.1M passengers domestically FY18 at load factor of 77.8% which equates to 28.4M seats. Internationally it was 8.4M at load factor 84.2%, which equates to 10M seats SOURCE: Qantas Databook 2018. Total seats flown 38.4M.

Seems 5.2M awards were redeemed FY18. Unknown what percentage of these are economy, business, first, upgrades or toasters. But an increase of 1M seats is about a 20% increase in award availability. Assuming an equal potion based on domestic/international loads, 740,000 of the 'additional seats' would be in the domestic market, with 260,000 internationally. What isn't mentioned anywhere is what the split of economy, premium economy, business or first class award availability is. So for all we know, it may just be 1M additional economy availability.

They do say "recognising members who have had a lifetime of flying with us, with the imminent launch of Lifetime Platinum". I don't think they intend you to around long enough to enjoy the benefit. It seems a bit of an empty offer for anyone who might earn enough points, they will have had a lifetime of Platinum if not "Lifetime Platinum".

Not a bad enhancement as enhancements go, I was expecting Qantas to be true to form and increase the amount of status credits for each level, and decrease the status credits on flights.

Maybe there is more enhancements to come.

Think of it another way, you are just selling 10,000 pts for $75, or 0.75 cents per point. This is not great value.

If points have gone up 40,000 and carrier charges gone down $300, it’s a change in the mix of spend.

They’d do well at the L’oreal Counter

Watched a Foxtel doco on Concorde this week and one chap was heavly interviewed took several HUNDRED Concorde flights alone.

75K SC to real businessmen is pretty easy.

QF had a guy years back in CEO Executive recruitment etc, who used to fly a million paid miles a year all in F to Europe and USA. A round trip to Europe around weekly. A neighbour used to Fly to SFO and back each week for years on UA. 15,000 miles a week.

This kind of travel occurs. Many here do not believe it, but it does exist. And like these kind of guys, in paid pointy end long haul so SC add up rapidly.
Does that mean it going to be pretty difficult for women? I thought AJ was all about equality.
