Qantas First Class menus

About the only advantage of having very similar menus in F and J is that F should never run out (in theory).
Agree. But if you are going to have a special seasonal F dish only - make sure you have enough. Pretty poor.

Been a while since I've flown QF F, but I assume you still can't pre-select your meal? Even more unforgiveable if J pax can (in theory) guarantee their meal in J but F can't. It implies you will always have a choice - but clearly that's not the case with QF F.

Still can't select meal in F. Dunno why :(

Very few airlines fully cater in F (every meal for every passenger). Lufthansa is one of them.

Yep, seems so strange.

I thought EK also fully catered? Not something I know of for a fact but a number of colleagues and friends have travelled regularly on EK in F and spoken about having full choices late into flights, two serves of caviar etc.

I suspect some of the perceived ‘premium’ items like caviar will be catered per passenger. But. it sure about the main courses... although EK largely shares the same menu between F and J (i think one extra choice for entrees and mains in F).

LH supposedly caters 32 meals if they have a full 8F cabin... one of everything for everyone.

That could explain the EK service. They certainly have more than one extra starter though (usually a couple of soups, local platter spread, the caviar etc). A selection of starters once was all I needed - couldn't fit another thing in - though again this was a few years ago now.

No, EK don't fully cater in F for all menu items. I know this as they ran out of the mezze plate on a flight I was on (which surprised me given that this is a speciality of the region) and I was told that they only had two of these catered for F on the flight. Luckily a bright spark attendant thought to check whether J had any spare and they did - the presentation wasn't quite on par with F but it still tasted great. Particularly when washed down with a glass or three of dom.

I’m sure the Piper is nice but with EK, SQ, etc providing Krug, Salon, Dom P (and whatever they call Oenothèque these days accoridng to my partner), they could do better, same with the whiskeys and gin imo (beefeater?). Sure if they want to be a little obscure maybe some Comte De Champagne, Grand Siècle, Dom Ruinart, Grande Dame, Sir Winston Churchill, Cuvée Nicolas, Bolly RD?

It’s all subjective I guess. The PH (seems to be the current one on QF) is delicious... I much prefer it over the Dom P2 for example.

It's QF F food and be
And it frustrates me that it's only on EK or SQ that I personally have seen premium Tassie or ACT-region wines. QF just sticks to its usual suspects.

(Yes, I'm biased to my homes of Tas and ACT).

Would love some Clonakilla, Domaine A, or Josef Chromy.

I've had Clonakilla on QF F.

This is also a recent change with CH and PH prestige cuvees being available - previously on rotation they would have either: Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, VC La Grande Dame or Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill.

Don't think I've ever seen Bolinger RD on any airline's F product. Certainly have had Bollinger La Grande Annee on EY.

Nice, that’s more like it!

Maybe it’s just my subliminal brand snobbery, from all accounts the PH is very good, but it feels like when you check into a very nice hotel and see the large flat screen is a Hisense, #firstworldproblems

That's good to hear. Been a while since I've flown QF F and I guess the menus posted above aren't enough of a sample size. But good to know there is a bit of variety.

~AUD250 a bottle is about right for most majors for a bottle of champagne. Give or take.

Piper rare is far nicer than some other champagnes including Dom (now that's a Hisense if I ever saw one)....

The champagne was very nice. And I am not normally much of a champagne fan. But i only had half a glass as it was whisked away a bit quickly.

Only wine I had was the Katnook Cab Sav. It was also nice.
