Lucky I didn’t read onboard as I may have thrown up or caused a scene from laughing too hard.

* actual food definitely not new.

Three observations... 20 years on the menu hasn't changed much. This is QF, couldn't help but put an advertisement in the middle (for Rockpool). And beginning a sentence with a number! (tsk tsk)

Thanks for these :) It was the same menu last month but I'd forgotten what was on offer. Describing the amuse as tuna rather than beef... maybe you had the same FA I did with their macaronis
And would appear to be the same menu GoldCanyon340 had too. I’ll post the food from this flight, as well as menus and food from QF36 when I get time.

Love the repetition of the J meals that I had last week on the way to HKG. Tuna Poke and the Beef Massaman are the same as the J menu.

Also noticed that they've changed the Champagne flutes again (side question: can you call it a flute if it's stemless?). When I flew to DFW in March, they had newer style glasses which were more bulbous (see in the photo). However as I and the FA discussed they were too small so were constantly having to be refilled and wonder if they've replaced them because of this?

Will report on the SYD > SIN F menu next Monday provided my upgrade comes through.

It was. Just checked the pics I took.

Funny thing is I had beef massaman curry on QF1 in F BKK-LHR in January 2000. What goes around comes around.

To follow up from this, have just looked at menu select for QF81 next Monday and low and behold, the following items are on the menu:
  • Moroccan spiced carrot soup
  • Tuna poke salad
  • Hokkien noodles with eggplant
  • Beef massaman curry
Not only is there significant crossover in the F menu posted by Kermatu but a number of the same repetitive dishes I've had over the past couple of months, albeit mixed with slightly other same same meals. I have to have a good laugh at that piece of drivel written by Fred Perry and his thoughts on the food on Qantas.

We were served champagne in an even smaller glass departing SIN. But had one half refill, and offers for 3 more in the space of 10 minutes before departure (which I declined in part because I wasn't really enjoying it so asked for a single malt after take-off instead). Crew were far more proactive.

Sorry for delay. My food on the QF1 SYD-SIN leg. I chose the soup first.

It was quite nice. The two breads I chose (olive, and garlic) were very good.

Tuna next. Suspect I got a decent serve as I didn't select a main but asked for the seasonal dish instead.

It was nice and fresh but didn't have the wow factor.

Seasonal dish. I was in 4A and my order was taken fourth in the A line. FA did not know what the dish was when I asked. Came back and said it was the Moreton Bay bugs. The guy behind me didn't order it so absolute worst case scenario 10 people in the cabin ordered it.

Nice dish. But Balmain Bugs I thought, not Moreton Bay. Off his own bat the FA told me as he was taking the plate away that they were Balmain bugs and apologised. Fine. I said it was tasty. He asked if I wanted a main or dessert. I said I wouldn't say no to more bugs. Nope, no more available.

I found that hard to believe, but frankly didn't care. I had confirmed this was just an average J dining experience and just had the bog standard cheese plate.

Had some chips and a drink mid flight. About 90 minutes out, as I was awake i was offered something before landing. The steak sandwich or a baked rigatoni. Had the latter.

Simple but very tasty.

From the archives - this item on ebay. Most similar listings don't show the actual contents and menus, but this one does - from 1975: QANTAS Captains Club 1st Menu 55 Years of Service London Sydney & Napkin Ring | eBay

Less choice, but arguably more luxe.

I agree. The proper trolley service was a far grander affair than the plate in the galley arrangements now. Simple stuff done well always trumps tricked up stuff. For that reason I often find myself ordering the "Rockpool style" lamb again and again. I've found that to be a consistently solid if not earth-shattering dish.

QF F soups never fail to disappoint me. And the current breads (with the whole roasted garlic cloves) are pretty good.

I still think QF F catering is pretty good. I've never had any Star Alliance F catering so my comparisons are limited to oneworld. Cathay used to trump QF, but in recent years only the caviar and Krug keeps it going. The balance of the menus have been pretty ordinary. I've had the worst meal ever on BA (curry slopped on a plate), and the less said about AA F the better, although you cannot beat an AA ice cream sundae with all the fixins'.

For me now QF F is all about a simple meal (usually the soup, the simplest main and some ice cream), some decent wine and the most comfy bed in the sky in a cabin which in my experience has mercifully never been overheated.

Olive bread, and the garlic bread out of Sydney were great. Sadly ex-SIN it was sourdough or a multi-grain only. The latter was nice but was hoping for more of the garlic bread.
