Qantas First Class menus

QF93 last Thursday had a "seasonal special". I was offered it, and had it - was terrific. Smoked salmon with radishes and other vegetable trimmings. The presentation was superb. We had a super crew working in F (one of whom I'd flown with before and we were delighted to see each other again). Great fun, attentive and the FA working the galley was very skilled. All the courses of all the meals came out piping hot but not overcooked and perfectly garnished and presented. Now, if only we'd had the Winston Churchill or Grande Dame. Fingers crossed for QF94 home later this week!

I had a visit from the Captain - wonderful gentleman who shared my enthusiasm for the unusual but interesting flight path we had being blown up the western side of the GDR by a strong jetstream until well up into northern NSW before making the RH turn to LAX. That combined with a genuine chat with the CSM and thanks for being a P1 made for a really great flight - QF at its very best.

I flew QF 9 MEL to DXB earlier this month. The trip really deserves it's own thread, but here's the menu. A couple of things:
  • late night, so no real proper dinner; they did serve us the full assortment of what they had.
  • LGD was served; wanted to try the Sir Winston. Not a huge fan of the LGD really. I did drink a bottle plus though (hey, if you're pouring, I'm drinking...)
  • canapes were solid, soup & bread were fine, the steak was inedible, and the desserts were good (savarin was completely delicious.)
  • Wines weren't really that impressive, honestly. I've had a lot of what Epiqure lists as "Served in Qantas First" and almost across the board, these were less impressive than the others I've sampled.
  • I have the breakfast page somewhere; can't seem to find it, but if I do, I'll post. The scrambled eggs weren't too bad, but the waffles were a poor choice (all soggy.) Espresso was pretty good, considering it was at 35k feet.

X-factor was that it was fun to have a window seat and dine w/ the wife in the sky (I had to sit in the guest seat, but it was fine.)

Prior to QF9 out of MEL I've usually had a full dinner in the F lounge and thus the supper service is fairly appropriate. I realise this doesn't work for eveyrone - specially connecting pax and the like, but still a dinner in the lounge is superior IMHO

(same with ex-LAX flights back to oz)

So they were serving Tait Comtes?

Outbound oui. On QF94 inbound, the Sir Winston Churchill was ON. Hurrah. I had many good intentions of not guzzling on the way home. Those went to pave the road to hell. And I wasn't the only one in the F cabin who was rather delighted with the champagne that was loaded. One of the treats of flying QF F is the champagne lottery.

The "Champagne Lottery" has bemused me tbh. I mean I am not sure if it is an intentional "surprise" or more something to do with QF's stocking levels, purchasing policies/budgets or what. It's never been clear to me and the only airline I know of that basically has a choice but it's essentially random (unlike SQ, which is the only carrier I know of to offer Krug AND Dom in F). In some ways it's a surprise and something I wonder before boarding.. what will it be? If it's LGD then I'll be very happy (specially after a few refills :) ) but it can also be disappointing if, for example it's "only" the Tait offered. My personal rating is LGD > SWC > Tait CdC, but everyone's different, and maybe that's part of the "lottery" - one flight you may be pleasant surprised, the next flight maybe not.

BA offer 3 different champagnes +/- an excellent English sparkling wine in F on the same flight. All good and really nice to be able to taste flights of champagne

The Tait is nice enough, and probably better suited for the morning departure of QF93. The Sir Winston Churchill and the LGD are very grown up champagnes!

The Taittinger is my favourite out of the three. I always seem to end up with LGD and its my least favourite.
The Winston Churchill is a rare beast IME but I might just be unlucky.

First world problems indeed

TCDC and LGD have been on my flights. Yet to have the Winston Churchill - hope to encounter it one day :)

We need to swap flights :D

I have encountered the Sir Winston once (IIRC QF9 MEL-DXB) and it was very good, but I still prefer the Princess's discard :D

First world problems indeed. I mostly have had the Taittinger; less often the LGD and I think I've only had the Sir Winston Churchill twice - once on the LHR-DXB leg of a kangaroo run and last week on QF94. I have QF93 and QF10 coming up as part of a RTW so will see what is offered on each leg.

Does anyone have a spring (sept) QF11 F menu? And as a second ask, a QF8 one as well? :-) - And if you have flown very recently, was there a market inspiration onboard?

Thanks

I have flown QF8 recently - but don't recall a "market inspiration" on the menu.
Sorry. Will have to lift my game.
