Qantas First Lounge in Singapore

My take on the lounge.

Fairly spartan, OK for a quick bite and a couple of champagnes, and then move on to the QR/EK/BA lounges, as takes your fancy.

But, of course, everyone's opinion is a personal thing...

Just thought it was worth saying.

I finally got to visit the QR lounge in SIN. I'm in two minds as to which is better. Both good but different vibes. The shower suites in the QR lounge are much more spacious and actually have a proper place to put your bags. There's only two (at least male ones)

Champagne on offer was the same as the QF F lounge. Taittinger brut and rose. Both lounges are focused on the dining though, with the dining area in both taking up most of the floor space.

If you're leaving from the C gates, it's much closer.

We saw a group at SIN F escorted all the way to a table by what appeared be an AF captain who said "see you on the flight". Probably for AF257
AF switched their F lounge in SIN from the JetQuay CIP terminal/lounge to the QF lounge a few years back. Not sure if it was when the agreement between the 2 airlines was furthened or when new management at AF decided to do a deep review of the F product (almost axed it completely sometime before covid).

The J lounge change is a much more recent addition following a lot of complaints from frequent flyers on SIN-CDG/AMS that the lounge wasn’t up to par.

Flying EK but as a P1 got escorted into the lounge and to a relatively quiet space in the restaurant, with a warning that QF2 was about to land. Despite the crowd, staff seemed to cope well - very polished and proactive (though there was a slight mixup on my order).

Fiery and citrusy Bloody Mary as requested.

No problem to mix and match from the menu.
Then the stir fry beef, which came before the wontons.

Simple but reasonably tasty. Probably for the best it came before the wontons as I suspect it wouldn’t have stood up well after.

Bonus Laphroaig(s) while waiting for flight.

Great staff, many of whom chatted to regulars in the lounge. I had a few welcomes back and was great to see Evan who had escorted me off QF1 a few days before.

Another great visit with excellent service. Having been through less than a fortnight prior had even more recognition and welcomes. Offered my “usual” seat (really just the same as last time). And before I could settle in was asked if I wanted my spicy BM.

Would have been rude to decline.

Love the cold towels before and after the meal.

I’ve steered pretty clear of the S&P squid in recent years as I usually don’t enjoy. But gave it a try.
IMG_5176.jpeg
Very glad I did. Asked for soy rather than aioli. It was perfectly cooked, light but flavourful. Best I’ve had in any lounge I reckon.
IMG_5177.jpeg
Barramundi (which was fine but nothing special) and some nice pieces of crayfish added.

Was offered cheese but for once opted for a sweet - pineapple fritters. Was asked if I wanted chilli with it! And proactively asked if I was ready for the Laphroaig. Both were very good.

Finally was nice to have one of the lounge team come to me during my meal to thank me for making some positive comments about them and other staff (different thread). This was seen by ‘the ‘most senior management’ and praise passed back down the line. Was good to hear that a simple post can have an impact on someone, and I appreciated the direct and genuine thanks.

Did they read your comments on AFF or was that feedback sent to Qantas directly?

AFF.

I don’t bother with direct feedback, even via the SST / VIP teams. Just generic responses.

Haven’t had this kind of personal and heartwarming reaction since the days of Red Roo, or even occasionally threads like Bouquets for the FAs.

Wonder if they respond similarly to both good and bad feedback.

I'd be quite shocked if there are any onboard changes in response to the feedback I gave a few months ago. Will find out in a few weeks.

Can report that service good as always on wed night.

Now if only they could have space for luggage when having a shower. Even a large hook would suffice at a minimum.

As a bonus, laksa seems to have got its mojo back after several recent woeful experiences.

@kermatu should have added this given preference

btw. especially like the lack of announcements... and when they come and let you know your flight is delayed. Now if only they would STOP those darned announcements in the QF lounge in SYD.

Have never particularly liked laksa. In part because a good portion of it invariably ends up on my clothes. Hence my request for crayfish separately. Was a generous serve.

The Emirates F lounge in DXB is also silent. Other than gate changes (which makes sense as it can be quite a hike). Very peaceful.

Agree, so peaceful.....lots in this space avoid announcements. Hence why the SYD lounge is so egregious/objectionable/[add your choice here].

Plus EK make the best scrambled eggs with spicy bits incl cut chillies...I Digress..

Btw. @kermatu an often hidden/overlooked feature of the napkins in SIN is a little slit which enables you to attach same to your shirt (assuming you have a button). This largely solves the, I eat like a 3 yr old (issue I sometimes have) :)
