I don't know who all these head of business are who are allegedly saying "good on you Alan Joyce" but I certainly haven't met any of them.

You move in the wrong circles?

As I said previously, it seems support for each side rests with your political voting preference.

I deal with the public everyday and also move in political circles, and I have only come across one who supports the union side, and her relative is one of the union members involved, so it could family loyalty, just as my perception is weighted by my life contacts and experiences.

What I want to know is - in exhibit A, the premium economy seat pitch seems more than 38 inches, or is there at least one seat on the A380 that gives you as much room as is displayed in the advert?

Good point. Is it a display mock-up of seating that doesn't exist, because it looks like a PE seat with J pitch?

A lot of emotions running high and a lot opinions to match. Thought i would put my bit in. I have flown with nearly every major airline, i have flown in every continent bar South America, I have had terrible and I have had fantastic service, but Quantas are simply average at best. Before those come on and bore me with safety facts, don't! Quantas have had two or three major events but no fatal crashes. However you must realise that most major airlines have a simillar record in the last 30 years. Air France is the last major airline to have an event as such, and that is still being invetsigated(in effect Quantas rank badly in the last 18 months). I would say I find quantas and flying in Oz to be without doubt the most expensive anywhere on the planet. Simply put its a waste of money. I suspect Mr Joyce is trying his cough to save the Airline by taking the stand. If you continue to let these people get what they want the Airline will go out of business! They will loose their jobs and that will be that. Frankly i refuse to be ripped off by Quantas anymore anyway. PS when booking to Hong Kong look on line at prices from Oz then look on line for prices from Hong kong. The difference makes me sick, and yes its the same to nearly every other country.

I'm a Life Qantas Club member. Virgin are considering what they can offer me to switch, but it doesn't look like much.

does anyone recall the advert by v australia of their a330 coast to coast service where there are 6 or 7 cabin crew in the j/c cabin serving pax??..... or even a big mac that looks 6inches tall....i could go on and on.. my point.... its why EVERY advertisement agency exists to achieve..entice consumers to try the product!!! sorry...about drifting of topic!!!

Emirates does that also especially from the UK. They get cheap fares to OZ, but we get expensive fares the other way around.

The grounding was completely unneccessary. Bully tactics way over the top. I intend to avoid Q if possible as long as this man is in charge.

Apologies in advance for the use of Latin prepositions and phrases within this post.

Firstly - a quick swipe at the man: Medhead: It takes quite a lot of rubbish from someone for me to call them on it ad hominem - and you've crossed that threshold. The above post is a single-minded attempt to support arguments and ideologies that you've continued to spout ad nauseum since Saturday; to the point we're you're just repeating the same old stuff over and over.

The only interesting part of your rambling post, Winchester is that we now know that we can attack another poster as long as we announce that we are about to do so. Good to know, mods, good to know.

No plant just a FF that is sick to death of unions interfering with my life & business

I'll join that club and today have just been made aware one of our major suppliers is about to be hit by the unions with strikes so we are desperately trying to build safety stock and contingency plan. Nightmare!!

Can't half tell we have a Labor government in power!

Just booked another 6 trips with QF, so glad to have the confidence around our travel supplier back at least!!

You can't half tell that the ACTU and their members are very certain that the next election will deliver a new government..........like sharks they can taste the blood - they're lining up for a final feed before the IR laws are changed.

Ha ha @Fiscal. Interestingly there's another SMH poll underway with 9 hours still to run. It currently has 21,764 responses.

Who do you blame more for the dispute escalating? Current standing:

Qantas management - 47%
Qantas unions - 31%
The government - 9%
All equally - 13%

Despite the fact that the options are not necessarily optimal, the management is clearly coming off second best (at least amongst this sample).

Maybe the only poll worth reading is that 80+% of all QF employees & their 12 unions are happy & in agreement with QF........only 19+% of employees and their 3 unions are not. No need to bother the photo finish camera for this one.....

QF has been on the wrong track for years. It has followed the One World airline group which has been losing traffic while Star Alliance and Sky Team are busy building their networks. ex QF 2ic Borgetti at Virgin has set up a good global pax funnel for them where QF has missed out.
That is why QF Int is bleeding. (Along with their aloof pricing practices). So the CEO has only himself to blame for QF's problems. They are management made. He can't continue to blame the Middle East Airlines for their dominance over QF. They are by geographical location a non-stop airline to the world while QF is a one-stop. Government backing has nothing to do with QF's problems. That's an old Geoff Dixon whine. He trotted that out to cover his inadequacies. What about fuel hedging? I wonder why that is not talked about.
I was a QF Platinum FF but now only Silver heading down. I travel J and buy tickets by price and limo service at destination.
I won't be back to QF. I'm sick of being booked to one destination and ending up in another missing meetings, having to change flights just prior to leaving because of equipment failure etc.
The QF CEO has spent all his airline life at Air Lingus, Ansett and Jetstar. All low end products. He doesn't have a full service ethos or understand the Australian psyche when dealing with employees.
My advice for his new Malaysian full service airline is to call it Ansett. It would be healing for the past and it has an Aussie ring.

When Alan Joyce worked for Aer Lingus it was a full service national carrier, and part of the One World Alliance. It is only in the last 8 years that EI has switched to a LCC to compete with Ryanair.

BTW it's QANTAS and not QUANTAS.

We can also argue on who is more expensive. I'm looking at flights next week and Virgin is more expensive than QF going MEL SYD.

And when did Ansett become a low cost product?

"Shill" or "stooge" might be more appropriate words then Am A Roo.
Adios amigo:mrgreen:

BadgerBoi, thats no way to say hi to an old friend :mrgreen:

More to a name than meets the eye ;)

The Richard Branson philosophy was to first keep the employees happy as you will then have happy customers and thereby happy shareholders.

If you are keeping shareholders happy to the detriment of passengers & employees then plan to fail. The fiasco that happened on 29 Oct is a classic example of that & AJ and all his ex-AN cronies will just have to deal with the end result.

..and so to the real crux of the matter. A successful business is in the hands of its employees. Happy employees really do improve profitability. Employees going the extra mile deliver more for the business. Until QF management realises this the problems will continue.

I get the impression that QF staff has no idea about the medium term future of QF other than the info fed to the press. Bad news is bad news and is better delivered without spin.

If I worked for QF now I'd be feeling disenfranchised, in the dark, and wondering if I had a future with the business. This is not good for customer service, and this is a customer service business.

I'm a Life Qantas Club member. Virgin are considering what they can offer me to switch, but it doesn't look like much.

I'd be looking at a foot in both camps. QF will probably enhance life QC membership!!!!!! :p

The board's decision can be tarted up in many ways, but ultimately customers were abused to achieve a goal, and I'm sorry this is not acceptable.
