Just curious, what do you guys do with your travel insurance? if you use vouchers?

I will use the same credit card (that includes travel insurance) to both buy the vouchers and to redeem them. So the whole trip will have been paid for using the one card. I'm expecting this should be OK with the credit card company (I hope so! - not 100% sure).

I purchased one voucher back when the promo occurred; screen acknowledgment indicated a November date, but emailed receipt has correct December date.

I purchased three more yesterday each said expiry December 8th, but all emails are correct with Dec 22nd.

Just called my credit card's insurer (Zurich) and asked. Tickets bought using a voucher and topped up with the credit card will NOT be covered by the card's travel insurance (even if the voucher is also bought with the credit card!).

This could be a BIG minus for international travel!

Loosing the free travel insurance makes the vouchers a negative deal then.

Looks like I might just get a couple of small ones to help pay for a few domestic trips next year.

yea thats a major reason why i am not getting these, coz my card requires 100% of ticket paid to be covered. But IIRC some other cards may be different ~ 75% which would work for some e.g. a $500 voucher in J wont be 25%

Just a reminder- you need to register your details in the next few days if you want the bonus points. I only found out by accident yesterday as they haven't made it clear.
I can't share the link now because I am on my iPod, but I will come back when I am using the "big computer"

I wonder now if this affects the ANZ & Amex Platinum credit card insurance too?

Just stocked up on a bunch of vouchers... all Xmas presents to myself

Thanks, self... and thanks QF

Was looking to buy a voucher for a family holiday.
But when I got to the gift voucher page, intending to buy for 1 Adult and 2 Children, it specifies "Adult 1, Adult2, Adult 3"

I wonder if this means you cannot buy gift vouchers for children?

If credit card travel insurance is not valid for the Zurich underwritten ones - which cards are?
I have a Citibank Signature and Westpac Platinum, but both are Zurich :(

The wife has an affiliated Gold Amex, but we have no idea if that has any travel insurance attached to it.

Suddenly the traps with this are appearing... Maybe I'll just get a couple of $50 and use for SYD-MEL.

I think the ANZ QF Plan is one of the better insurance cards as you only need to spend $250 or $500 of your travel costs on the card to be covered. Don't even have to spend anything on flights with the card to get the insurance.

The ANZ Plat Charge card also seems to give you cover, even if you haven't paid for any of the travel with the card.

These conditions may have changed, but i've not heard anyone complaining about them recently so hopefully not :-|

I've started my voucher purchasing today. What is rather annoying is the lack of an email to confirm that you've registered for the points. I just purchased 6 and got half way through registering them and forgot if I registered the second one.

Not to mention that the test voucher, I purchased at the start of the promo, I registered the wrong reference number. Given they have to be registered by Boxing day, it will be interesting keeping track and then trying to argue for the points if they don't come in.

Indeed - The registration for points page is very poor!

Just a standard "You have registered"

No email, no reference number.

the page that shows up after the claim form is a generic site. it doesn't check to see if the info you typed in the form is valid.
I typed it in wrong to to check, and still get the 'thank you'

They must be processing these manually.

Okay, sorted out one family holiday on Christmas Eve!
Red e-deals for the mrs and kids, JASA for me :)
Bought a voucher and redeemed it in the space of 20mins. All looks good, just have to manually get the 2 bookings linked and attach FF memberships.

I'm wondering aloud... if I choose points plus pay, can I use this gift voucher to dodge the 7.70 credit card fee? Or is that not possible with this?

The voucher dodges the CC fee if paying cash anyway, not sure about points plus pay but I can't see any reason that should change.

Forgive me but I'm a tad confused on how to go about this...

I'm making separate bookings for 3 adults SYD-MEL-SYD in Red e-deal with each person being upgraded to business using different accounts.

1) Can I use on $150 to book this return trip and pay the difference
2) If I want to participate in this promo do I need to purchase 3 completely separate $150 vouchers?
3) Can I buy the vouchers as gifts then claim the points for myself?
4) Can I book using this voucher online? (Didn't notice the option)

Thanks guys!

  1. Depends on the base fare for the trip. The voucher can only be used to pay for the fare but not taxes and surcharges. Assuming the fare is $150 or more then you can use a $150 voucher.
  2. you can purchase 1 voucher for upto 9 people, who all must book and travel together. As you want to use different points balances to get upgrades, it would probably be best to get separate vouchers for each person.
  3. Yes
  4. Yes. At the same place where you buy them select redeem instead of purchase.

If Per->Melb is $279 how much would the surcharges/fuel etc be?

Since presumably this voucher would not allow full payment, what amount should I purchase? $250? $200?

Do a dummy booking for you flight; when you get to the "Review Flights" screen; click on the total price 'hyperlink':

arrow_collapse.gif
Total Price=$278.75
* (AUD)
1 adult x 278.75 =$278.75

A pop up should appear indicating the figure for the base fare as well as a total for the taxes/levies/charges.

Price Breakdown

Fare
1 x241.84
Charges/Taxes
36.91
Total Price
278.75 =$278.75 (AUD)

Make sure this base fare is more than the voucher value - so in the above example get a $200 one (as $250 is more than $241.84).
