I want to know what happens if you book a refundable fare and cancel? Does the voucher get reinstated to its original expiry and if so, what happens if its after the expired date (meaning you booked a flight for sometime in the future after the expired date).

I bought 2x500 dollar vouchers to use on a SYD-LAX-SYD flight in J, but when I went to redeem it, it gave options for redeeming all the Y fares (i.e. red e-deal, flexi etc) but no J option. I subsequently called and booked the flight, no phone booking fee :-)

Anyone else have a similar problem?

I would be extremely surprised if they could indeed be used with JQ.

On the QF web site it allows you to make bookings to cities that are servered by JQ - OOL / DPS

Just hoping they allow the boucher to be used. Can't make a dummy booking tho as you have to have a voucher code to start with

But you can start the process and then cancel the booking before committing. So a dummy booking should be possible.

Now with the voucher - you have to have a voucher code to start the booking process.

Unless I'm going via the wrong process when i click on the redeem button for the vouchers it asks for the voucher number and last name.

Oops stupid of me. I assumed you had the voucher already. Sorry.

markis

is HNL? That's where I'm more interested in. DPS too could be an option. They are available via the normal QF booking engine.

HNL is an option but only with QF, DPS is listed but always says the value of the flight is less than the voucher, same for the JQ days ex HNL LOL

thanxs muchly :o

seems to put a spanner in my plans to get some extra SCs via *Class on JQ with a voucher.

Just tried using a $50.00 voucher.

I could get Y and J class options for domestic and trans-tasman flights. But only Y class options for other international flights eg MEL-SIN or MEL-JFK or MEL-NAN.

So, no PE, J or F allowed on non trans-tasman international? Or am I doing something wrong?

I think there are some issues, I see the same!

I hope it gets fixed! It seems like the voucher redemption system is missing the Travel Class option that you get when doing a 'regular' booking for international (non trans-tasman) flights.

  • Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic flights or international flights departing Australia (excludes multi-city bookings).
  • Must be wholly redeemed in one transaction for adult base fares (excludes surcharges, fees and taxes) of equal or higher value to the voucher amount. Surcharges, fees and taxes apply to all fares paid with a voucher and must be paid by credit card at the time of redemption.
  • Amounts are in Australian dollars (AUD) and are valid for bookings within 12 months of the voucher issue date.
Nothing about class restrictions there.

However I can't find a way to book online anything other than economy for intnerational.

They can be redeemed by calling - maybe they'll waive the service fee in these cases.

I'd hope so - when on-line booking is shown to be faulty. That's the usual Qantas response in my experience ...

Yet another redeeming 'quirk':

I noticed that the expiry date printed on the vouchers and the expiry date given when you try to redeem it is different.

The 'printed' date is 14 days later (better!). :-|

Edit to add: It looks like you can actually book up to the 'printed' expiry date - despite what the initial message is when you try to redeem it.

does the voucher need to be redeemed for a flight within the expiry date or can you book one up to 12 or so months beyond the expiry, as long as the voucher is redeemed before it expires?

and does anyone know what happens if you cancel the flight (assuming fully flex fare)?

Good point - ignore my edit! The 14 day difference seems wrong.

One voucher I have says: Valid Until 12 Dec 2012. When I try to redeem it the website says "Your voucher is valid until 28 November 2012." I can actually book flights up to 11 December 2012 (the maximum forward date from today). So you can definitely book past the voucher expiry date.

Just curious, what do you guys do with your travel insurance? if you use vouchers?
