Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

So, after all that context, do you think I will have time to get the extra leaves, make the choice for the 50SC's and have them credited to my account before April 30th based on your experience? TIA folks.
Based on my experience, yes you will. But it may be an anxious wait towards the end of April.

you can get all leaves right now, its not hard to do. then most of that wil ltake 1-7 days to appear as green leaves. and if you do, you probbaly are going to make it before april 30 as its max 21 days after that to pick. tight sch, but if you do it today you might be in with a chance.

Yep, thanks. I have already done everything to get the five leaves but am waiting for them to show in my account. It's tight, that's why I was asking what other people had experienced.

Hi. Please bear with me, this is actually about Qantas Green but I need to give some context first. Last week I finally made it to Point Club Plus. I believe that means excess Status Credits can roll over to next year. I am sitting at 245 SC's and need an extra 5 SC's to maintain Silver.

I have three of the five leaves for Green and the other two are paid for and receipted but haven't shown up on the Green page on my account yet. I understand that after the five leaves show up you get to choose 50 SC's or 10K points. I have until April 30th to get the extra 5SC's.

Side question: if your goal is to requal silver, can't you just book a flight (maybe you already did?) that qualify for the status extension (plus trigger additional 100 SCrollover). I dont know your circumstances, but if yhey are favorable, you could potentially:
- Trigger the status extension by booking a flight, which also trigger 100SC rollover for silver member (which I understood you are)
- Independently enjoy your 100SC PC+ rollover
- Complete your green challenge now( I think you did) but pick your 50SC reward in May
- Complete again the green challenge in your upcoming year membership (might need to wait for the green quizz to be available again) and vollect an extra 50SC.

So all up, you would maintain silver, and you should accrue 300SC for your next membership without flying. Enought to requal already, and maybe a good start to aim for gold?

So THIS is why this forum is so valuable. Thank you so much @ChrisMars. I have/had no clue what you are talking about but it sounds like something I need to understand.

Yes: my goal is to requal Silver. Please can you explain a little more about booking a flight to qualify for status extension plus triggering 100 SC rollover? My circumstances are that I can most certainly afford to do that although I don't really need to go anywhere in Australia just now. However, in case this is relevant, I do plan to go to Malaysia (which I could do via Singapore QF or KUL MAS) in July.

Thank you so very much. I think I understand how the rest of your suggestions could work. Other than how I would pick up the green challenge 50SC in May.... is that just by delaying making the reweard choice between 10k points and 50 SC's?

Thank you, i am on a learning curve and really very much appreciate the help.

You will want to read this page: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs/status/status-support.html
Section "Members with a status end date between January-June 2022 UPDATED" This will explain how to extend Silver with one flight, and trigger an extra 100SC rollover (for silver members). Make sure to look at the few tables, including "Which Status Credits count towards the rollover?". Note that classic reward flight with Qantas are enough to trigger the extension. I believe some in the forum even canceled their flight after the rollover and extension got processed, and got to keep the extension and rollover, I guess this strategy has a small risk associated with. If you already made a booking post 11 August 2021, you already qualified for the offer.

Once you complete the green chalenge, you will get the option to pick your reward, but it can take up to 21 days to appear (some got it earlier). When it appears, you will have 90 days to pick your reward. If you pick it in your next membership year (so post 30 April), it will count to your next membership year. That way it should be possible to get 2x50SC in the same membership year (but you won't be able to do that again the membership after obviously, you will only be able to do 50SC).

Hi again @ChrisMars. Thank you so much, that was news to me.

I flew MEL-SYD in December 2021, the booking was within the timeframe required (e.g., after August 2021, it was made in November 2021) but I booked on American Express Travel site, not Qantas (due to $450 travel credit for my Amex Card). Would you happen to know if the flight has to be booked through Qantas?

Thanks SO much.

Whoops....I just saw that it says it can be through a third party such as a travel agent. I guess I just feel nervous that all of this isn't reflected anywhere on my membership and I'm scared it will tick over on 1 May and I'll be back to Bronze. And then have to call Qantas, which is worse than a colonoscopy ;)

We all know where you are on the curve, the moment you mentioned chasing Silver :p

This booking should qualify, there was no need to book directly via Qantas as far as I remember. If I am wrong someone will correct that, I haven't read the t&cs of this offer since a while. If you open the Qantas App and navigate to your virtual card, you might already see that you Silver status is good up to 30 April 2023, or it might take a few more weeks to appear as extended however.

Enjoy Silver!

It did not go towards my PC/PC+ total. It was disappointing to say the least, but I don't need the SC and this year am no longer striving for Platinum. I had to call QFF and used my Platinum details only to wait 26 minutes and then be hung up on. I'm happy to slip back to LTG for that service.
:( yes disappointing indeed. Oh well, it cost me less than 10K points to achieve the 5 green leaves, so receiving 10K points means I am not out of pocket. But glad I was not relying on those 10K points to cross the PC+ line.

Now, off to QF Wine store to see if they have new/decent bonus points offers.

@ChrisMars Thanks again for your time. Yes, when you are rolling around in the mud of Bronze, Silver looks nice. I recently retired. For work I used to fly to Asia several times a year but I had no control over anything related to airlines and learning about QFF status wasn't a priority due to the intensity of work. Now I do have control and time and I intend to learn how to maximise the opportunities. ;)

I do have one more point of confusion. On the Qantas App it says membership expiry Sep 2023. I just noticed that this morning. Up until last week it was absolutely April 2022. The weird thing is the website still indicates my membership anniversary as April, so right at this moment the two are in conflict. I thought that might be because the Points Club Plus status that I just accessed last week has given me a year of Qantas Club and added it to what I already had in remainder. But what would be my actual anniversary now? Any clue? Sorry to come back with another question when you had already answered my first.... but it's part of the learning curve I guess.

Just my personal perspective. If you are retired and unlikely ever to travel frequently (annual holidays of a lifetime excepted) then you might ask yourself whether spending personal money chasing status would ever be worthwhile - especially when the status you are chasing brings little more than access to priority check in.

No idea!. Maybe a bug, hopefully the end date will be set to the correct one later at the end of this membership. Well, I guess September 2023 is better than April 2023. With the rollovers and green tier, you should be able to remain Silver till April 2024 anyway, as long as you still take 4 qualifying flights. Those 4 qualifying flights are not required for the status extension offer.

As @Mr H noted, make sure that you get some benefits from your Silver membership, check what you get that is not covered by the Qantas club membership attached to PointsClub plus, and see if it's worth "some" trouble.

@Mr H I intend to travel A LOT more frequently than that :). So far this year I expect to be gone for quite a few months on different forays here and there. Health permitting, travel is my thing. So far this year Tassie, Malaysia, Dubai and Singapore. It's worth it I think.

@ChrisMars: Yes, thank you once again. I guess I don't really know if Silver gives me anything I don't already have and it just sounds nice. I should check that. I already looked into changing to a QF flight to Dubai and decided that's not worth it, as I got the Dubai EK flight before the additional charges went up. Have a great week and thank you for adding to my understanding.

What status level does your membership show? If showing as Qantas Club, then it is quite possibly that the status expiry date has been adjusted by achieving free Qantas Club membership through achieving PC+. So your Qantas Club membership would expire at the end of September 2023. But if you achieve a higher FF status tier, that would map to your anniversary date.

When a paid Qantas Club member receives complementary Qantas Club membership, such as by reaching QFF Gold status, the paid membership is placed on hold and the remaining membership period will resume when the complementary membership is no longer valid. I still have 18 months or so of a paid Qantas Club membership on hold (going way book too many years for me to know just how long), which is no longer relevant to me since I reached Lifetime Gold status. So I suppose my paid Qantas Club membership will resume after I die ... hmmm?

@NM

Thank you for responding. I think you are correct in that the status expiry date has been adjusted because I reached PC+, so I expect that the app 'card' is reflecting my Qantas Club expiry date not the status expiry date.

You are correct, also, in that my account now does state that the paid QClub membership has been placed on hold etc.. The disconnect between the advice given by the Qantas Web site (e.g., check your Ap status) and the actual expiry date shown under my account is confusing and the explanation is complex, I wouldn't want to try to understand this as an ordinary punter without the help of folk like yourself. 100% for certain, the guy in the Philippines (sounded like it) Qantas FF help centre had zero idea about any of this.

Good for you for reaching lifetime Gold. I only wish I had more interest in all of this when I was more of a university road warrior, but it's only now I'm retired that my brain has had the space to think about it. Oh well. Let's hope your status rollover vs mortality question is a long time off. Cheers.

OPTION TO CHOOSE REWARD QUESTION

Hi all, thanks to those who helped me yesterday with my many questions. I have completed the 'five leaves' and overnight they have shown up on my status. I am now 'Green'.

1. Could I ask for people's experiences about how long it actually took for the option to choose the reward to show up. I know Qantas says 21 days but I was told on here that it can be sooner than that.
2. Could I also ask where you saw it? I read that it is under 'my account' ...but where? Is it easy to see or do you have to dig about.

TIA

In my case it was about 22 days, so just over the 21 day guidelines. You'll see it on the exact same page as all the ticks - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/my-account/green-tier.html

Thanks everyone. Mine actually appeared today, only TWO DAYS after reaching green status. I'm very excited about that because it means I should get the 50 SC's well before my Silver expires on 30th April, and being PC+ I can roll over too so I'm a happy camper today. :)
