Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

Funny you should mention that. The ability to “offset” during the booking process appears to have been enhanced! I can’t get that option at the moment.

i just tried several dummy bookings (SYD-MEL return) and I get the usually insurance, car, hotel add ons but no offset.
IIRC the carbon offset is on the very last page when you think you've gone past the point of no return.

Yes - together with the payment method etc, I think... though you do still get two separate invoices

I messaged yesterday about getting the final tick for the quiz, I'll see how long that takes

Any luck with that?

I'm at T+12D and whilst the activity statement shows I offset my flight, my fifth green leaf is not forthcoming...

Might have to chase Qantas. Just curious, did you offset at the time of booking?
Is the going rate something like 1 wk from booking a flight with carbon offset to green leaf? (Regardless of when the actual travel date is in the future).

Noting the comment above about applying offsets to partner flights, I just noticed that I could offset an existing future paid booking on AS (LAX-SFO) for 186 pts (2x PAX). Gave it a go to see what happens. The detailed FF entry says that it will count towards Green Tier…

A few days iirc

So as previosuly stated I had been sitting on 4/5 green leaves since September, so I gave feedback via the app quesrying why the surevey/quiz wasnt available to me. Got a response within 2 days asking for my FF #, confirming it was a known issue and that there was a work around.

Replied and 1 day later I could choose my reward (SCs of course, I am on track for first time ever to get to platinum so was obvious choice) and SCs were credited instantly. However Im still showing as only be on 4/5 leaves and the expiry date for Green Tier still showing 31/7/23 when should have updated to 31/7/24.

Guess I will hope they fix the survey before the end of the year and redoing it will fix the leaf problem. Although since other than the reward there are no other benefits for green tier I guess it doesnt really matter if I start over again next FF year.

Also the tasks are slightly different this 2nd year than first - as all qantas store and wine store deliveries are already offset, you now need to make them climate positive.

I actually waited till I was in Karratha, so only had to offset 1 leg of my flight.

My activity statement recognises the achievement (238 points for the flight on the 8th):

And the summary has triggered the Carbon offset AND the Charity dedemption on the same day, but not the Green Leaf flight:

Were did you call to follow up? Just the bog standard QFF number?

I get that you probably want SCs, but it looks as though you have spent 9,138 points (plus cash?) chasing a reward that was deemed equivalent of 10,000 points.

TBH, I'm points plentiful, and chasing platinum.

No cash spent, just points.

If you can point me towards another way to earn 50 SC's for 10,000 points I'll gladly buy you a beer. ;)

In the meantime, I'd like the 50 SC's I should be rewarded for achieving green tier...

I finally got around to using my “apology” voucher and booked a SYD-MEL return whY trip next year. The paid offset option was there before the payment screen (it wasn’t the other day redeeming points) - weird. Anyway, I took the paid offset option so now have two racing to sprout a leaf…

As an aside, the $50 “apology” voucher game me a $55 discount. I don’t recall that being discussed previously?

I a bit mystified about the Green weed status, I completed it earlier this year when it all opened up & have it until end of 2023, the remaining year left on my year which is Dec then next full year.

I don't get why everybody getting around to it 2nd time already.

Well depends on when you anniversay date is - yours is Dec so you have only had 1 shot.

But those of us who had anniversaries only a few months after the first green qualifer are already into the second year of green, and so ready to claim 50 easy SCs again.

There is no benefit to green tier except the reward, you need to requalify each year to get a reward each year. If you dont need the status credits you can wait til the last month then claim them in the next year, but if you need them this yeah best to do asap.

You assume incorrectly that everyone will want the SCs. For most people, unless they are likely to fall short of a tier by 50 Sis, they are of no benefit whatsoever. I am sure I am not alone in choosing miles.
SCs count towards LT SCs. If you are not yet LTG 10 years of Green tier with a return red e-deal MEL-SYD carbon offset as one of the leaves would get you 700 SC (500 SC from green tier and 200 SC from the flights you offset) which is a decent help towards LTG.

QF doesn’t do miles, they do points.

I neither assumed nor stated any such thing. You can choose any 1 of the 3 rewards ymmv wrt value.

However points are very easy to earn and when you deduct the points neded to earn green tier in the second year with the enhancemts to qualification activities the return is a lot fewer points.

Do what works for you, for me if not for the easy extra SCs i wouldnt bother as can get 5k points in a month of spend on just 1 credit card without hassle of chasing up QF

Pretty sure they are points, whatever QF may call them. You can't measure a distance with them.

Just a minor note, that some people refer to them as "miles" for historical reasons because that's how most legacy airlines started their frequent flyer systems - earning 1 point per mile flown. Although a lot of airlines have switched to 100% revenue-based systems for their points, Qantas' base points earning for flying is still based on the number of miles/km travelled then fit into certain bands. This is then scaled up or down based on fare class. I'm curious for anyone who's been around a while, has Qantas' FF earn ever been the exact number of "miles?" It does look like the base earn for flexible economy is still roughly scaled to number of miles (SYD-PER earns 2200 points distance is 2041 miles; SYD-CNS earns 1200 points distance is 1222 miles, etc).

I am another who has no interest in earning status credits. My only consideration with Green Tier is earning points. I was disappointed when I found out that the 10K points earned for achieving Green Tier did not count towards Points Club tally, but by the end of my membership year I had well and truly achieved PC+ without needing to rely on Green Tier points.

So by my calculations, the net earn of QFF points for achieving Green Tier is not huge, but is a few thousand points. I combined the points earned with a $50 wine voucher (earned from Points Club) to get 6 bottles of T'Galland Sparkling for free and in time for Christmas sharing.

QFF points earning was originally based on number kilometers flown on the flight and cabin booked. That was before there were status tiers to muddy the earning waters. And the change from km to miles was considered by many as the first of the "enhancement" flood to follow over the years.

@serfty can probably also tell us the date that they changed form km to miles for the calculations. In fact, it may have even been Australian Airlines before the Qantas merger.

OT, but pretty sure it was post merger and possibly to align with some overseas FF programs and introduction of OW. TBH, we mostly thought it was a retrograde step. I’m struggling to remember what happened at the time with accrued points (presumably converted).

There were still tiers but once upon a time NB was NW followed by PB, SS and WG.
(White, Blue, Silver and Gold - @serfty correct me if I’m wrong there!).

Well that offset probably went into the ether but this one posted with a couple points and a leaf…
