Hence my comment about waiting until the end of ones member year to complete GT (other than first timers who need the SCs or points sooner).

@Mr H likes the points but I personally think the cost/effort is disproportionally out of kilter to the SCs earn potential - which are otherwise much more difficult to come by not flying (for those seeking or retaining status).
Moving forward, doing the flying offset leaf as cheaply as possible is probably the main constraint for most, so do that AFAO - something like SYD-MEL return (cash offset). Then the rest can be done anytime (it only takes 24 to 48 hrs to see the remaining leafs appear).
I can understand the logic of changes QF have made (annoying for some) but as mentioned earlier, they’re coming into line with PC/PC+ changes to the benefits becoming available at the start of the new status year for those requalifying.
