I got green tier last year without need to offset my Tasmanian holiday home and likely will again this year.

Quiz, offset short domestic flight with points, donate small number of points to great barrier reef, use wine voucher to buy cheapest eco wine. And I stayed at a green hotel (was going to stay there anyway and used QF hotel voucher and booked during triple points promo). So no cash spent specifically for GT.

Yes, if you can stay somewhere (there’s a bunch of QLD Accor properties), then whilst it’s technically more expensive, you’re getting something real for your $s.

I'd even say switching red energy plans is better value than holiday homes if you also get bonus points, I mean one needs power.

Need to pay the GreenPower surcharge @ 4.84c/kWh though.

Depends on your electricity usage, but I could offset a TAS holiday home almost once a quarter at this rate...

Haven't looked into the red energy green plans in any great detail but if not already a customer, join get 15k FFPs, so could stay 1 quarter to get the green tick and then you can change plans or churn elsewhere. Not sure that one quarter would cost me as much as $50 extra.

I'm on the Qantas Red Energy Plan and its cheaper than what AGL and Energy Australia were offering, although I'm probably going to try Origin next year for the 30k EDR (15k QFFPs).

Last year 50 SCs for (2548 points and $1):
  • Fly Carbon Neutral - 48 points (SYD-CBR)
  • Sustainability knowledge via Qantas Wellbeing - Free
  • Charity Redemption - 2,500 points (has increased to 3,200 point this year)
  • Sustainable sips - $1 + $50 wine voucher but got 6 bottles of wine. Alternatively O could have paid 100 points or $1 for climate positive delivery fo the Charity redemption.
  • Sustainable stays - cost to me nothing extra, as I needed a hotel in Cairns anyway and the green property had the best price for the dates I needed with the facilities I wanted; and that was before using QF hotels voucher and earning triple points.
For this year Fly Carbon Neutral, Quiz, Sustainable Sips and Charity redemption remain easiest. I need to see if there is a Green property that suits some existing plans this year otherwise need to balance $50 for Tas (no way Id use 8.4k points given that is a flight) vs 1/4 of electricity on green plan.

Yeah, I’m not too keen to fiddle with ongoing “subscriptions” like energy bills for now for some points / SCs.

Also based on the increased points cost for Charity Redemption 3,200 and Tas Offset 8,400 the points cost to achieve green tier is now more points that the Green Tier award.

So GT appears to only be worth going for it if you feel its the cheapest way to earn 50 SCs.

I never saw the point of going for points (no pun intended). Too much work for so little gain. Whereas SCs aren’t easy to come buy without stepping onto a plane.

Those who don’t value SCs are probably better with QF wine. If they don’t drink, I can’t help them further…😉

Agreed, previous two years it has been worth it for the 50SCs but depending on what happens with the next DSC promo I may not need them for my 2025-26 FF Year so may not bother with the hurdles at all.

I collect the 10,000 points. I have to spend 3,200 points to get them, so net gain of 6,800 points. I value them at $68 (Everyday Rewards conversion rate). So the question is whether I can get the four non-charity leaves for less than $68. Or do I attach a monetary value to the joy of having a green Qantas logo on my phone?
