Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

I'm hoping to make Green Tier by signing up to Red Energy. If I sign up 1March and my membership year ends 30 April, will that be enough time to process?
Maybe - maybe not @Flyinfish - any particular reason you are waiting another 2/52?

From memory, think you need to receive your first bill and pay it before you get the leaf.
For some reason it took some time and a few emails to RE &QFF for my leaf to appear.
Also, you need to have 100% Greenpower added to your plan.

Red Energy only post points to your QF account based on the issuing of a bill and then it seems to take 10-14 days post payment. You cannot prepay and receive the points. Your account will just sit there in credit until a bill is generated..

Your best chance to get it by the 30th April
1. Sign up as via Move In with a move in date 2 business days from when you sign up. The call centre is based in Richmond Victoria alternatively if you don't to speak to someone you can do it online
2. Make sure you select monthly billing

If everything goes smoothly you should get your bill in March if not you might need to request a special read (this assume that you have already transferred across which is the point of the move in the site switches in a few days).
Speaking with one of the consultants they should be able to confirm if you will get your bill in March or not

Offer expires: 18 Mar 2025

- Earn up to 100,000 bonus Qantas Points*
- Enjoy an annual $450 Qantas travel credit
- Don't forget the two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations and two visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Melbourne and Sydney.

I'm on monthly billing now and have a smart meter so I thought allowing 2 months for it to go through would be enough... I'm switching from AGL which has free Netflix ;(

In theory 2 months would be enough time if everything is timed correctly. The reason I suggested if you want to change is to do it via a move in is that everything starts straight away. To switch Red have to send a change request (CR) to the market saying we want to win Flyinfish electricity site (NMI). With the Move in option the CR that gets raised the main advantage is done sooner - the Red doesn't really know you aren't moving it is assumed that you are and you will become a customer pretty much straight away.
Also Red aren't told any details from AGL they only get told details about your meter (which is also why you would need to let them know if you have an concessions, direct debit details etc)

When I switched to Red Energy it was over 3 months for the electricity and 5 months before I received a bill and bonus points for the gas. They are very tardy at getting readings from previous provider and correctly rating things. An option IMO best taken early in your FF year.

100% agree it is best to do it early than later. Assuming you have a basic meter (or a dumb smart meter) both of which need to me manually read
Worse case it will take you over 180 days to switch, roughly 90 days until your next meter read (which triggers the switch process) then another 90 days until your meter is read again and then depending on your bill cycle roughly 30 days until your bill is generated, 21 days to pay it and then add the points allocation process.
Also the readings aren't done by your retailer - it is the distributer who is resposible for taking the readings and sending it to your retailer. If you get a reader who is having a lazy day (I have seen anedotal evidence of this) and just decides to send through estimates the whole process starts again

Even with a smart meter (i have one) its not necessarily any faster. I switched first day of new billing period thinking it would be faster, as settle the old bills with energy Australia and AGL then next bill with red Energy.

But was told by their customer service when i inquired why was taking so long, that there is a mandatory cooling off period which they need to let elapse before they fully process the switch; which is why it often takes more than a Quarter for the first bill to arrive. And it is the billing process that triggers sending confirmation/points to Qantas.

If you are already a Red Energy customer and simply switching onto a green plan (noting the default Qantas points earning one plan isn't a green one) then it should be quicker, but still likely wont trigger until the next bill run which can easily be 90 days away,

O dear! Well I have signed up today 🤞. My last electricity switch happened quite quickly and we have new smart meters.
I had to email my contract to chase up @Flyinfish - keep an eye on it.

Checked my statements/bills, I pay as soon as bill arrives, points get posted about 10-14 days later.
Customer service located in Richmond Victoria are quite helpful.
Perhaps ask them your billing cycle date and when you can expect your first bill. Good luck 🤞

Thanks so much to everyone for their advice, especially Ben P's suggestion to select 'move in'... very helpful thanks!!! Thanks to remote Smart Meter and Move In option I will be transferred tomorrow, and my first bill will be generated on 17 March. My membership year ends 30 April, so I expect to get it through on time :)
