Qantas is sorry (again)

Yes all in J. And a lot in Asia where SQ has an obvious advantage over QF.
And 2 lots of domestic J redemptions on QF paid for by AAdvantage as less taxes than QFF.

And the customer is not the airline. The passenger gets to decide if they want to play the game or not.
Which is what I said to John in my original reply.

I think he is correct to give up the game if he finds he isn't winning at it.

With the spread of churning and proliferation of tech tools to automate the redemption process, the game is only going to get harder, not easier.

Not sure the game has changed a huge amount in recent years.

It's always been a game of earning and burning as quickly as possible. It has always required flexibility in when and where you want to go.

The main change in my opinion is that it has become more ruthless as more people have gotten into the points earning game and therefore you have to be quicker/better at earning and redeeming points than you used to be.
QFF has changed and it's changed a lot.

I don't care about premium redemptions. I never really did. This is where the majority of posts and redemptions are reported on AFF.

What I care about are economy redemptions and in 2016-2019 there was heaps of availability. I could go to BKK via HKG on QF and then EK to BKK. 35,000 QFF points per person and ~AUD150 in taxes. That's perfect. I love it. Wife loves it and daughter loves it as we use QF and EK lounges.

I'm not sure what's going on now but redemptions have dried up where QF saves them for a few days to make themselves look good and then another bonus for executives.

That for months I could not find any sort of classic award redemption from BKK/HKG/SIN back to Aus from Jan 2023 until May 2024 is extremely sad state of affairs.

So its reported ( AFR) that Alan Joyce is overseas for "personal reasons" and cannot attend the Senate inquiry hearings.

The Qataris are sending someone.

The hearing is going to wait until Joyce has the courage to front back up in Australia and then will interview him.

I don’t think the Australian parliament can issue subpoenas can they?

Not internationally apparently, but they can domestically. Also if he gave evidence by AV link it wouldn’t be protected by parliamentary privilege.

And you're right about one thing. QFF has become a program for those that earn points quickly and don't care how much they spend, when or where they go.

I don’t think that’s accurate. In some respects yes but there is still a huge amount of focus and benefits for those who fly frequently, I leverage many of them, almost every week! And in other more true blue less poisonous AFF threads that’s exactly what gets discussed… still, if you can believe it 😜

What has also happened I agree is they that they’ve brought in another ‘customer’ like some people at work who just earn points and spend them in the Qantas store for example on headphones and perfumes etc rather than flights. Maybe some of them buy the inflated cost FF seats as well, who knows.

I guess we now know what the emergency was that dear leader needed to sell his shares for….doing a runner.

In any event, perhaps you should have some T-shirts printed, with ‘sorry’ on them for your next QF flight.

It’s interesting looking back on it, but the Qantas that exists now is not the one that I flew for, for over 30 years. The real turning point was Alan’s totally unnecessary (look how tough I am) lock out. After that the relationship with the staff went down the drain, and management didn’t care at all. Having the pilot union publicly state that they’ve lost all confidence with the chairman is something that took years to bake, as AIPA has generally been an extremely conservative, and non political body. Personally, I think they’re toast, and the only question will be just how burnt the toast is.

To say that Joyce contributed a lot to QF over 15 years as CEO is obvious. Anyone contesting this fact is simply going for the pile on.

I even think the grounding had some limited legitimacy - I mean, it was at least legal for him to do it.

But of course, as you would expect from the expert that is Goyder, it totally obfuscates the real point. And for that matter, the more he talks and harps on about the Irishman, the less people will ask and talk about Goyder himself.

As for Joyce being overseas for "personal reasons" I will keep an open mind, but that trick is as old as the hills.

That is funny. I wouldn't actually begrudge QF holding this flight for the executives (really they are VIPs) if deemed possible/necessary - but the media blowback would be most humorous.

More surprised the Senate committee, instead of "acquiescing" to their demand, simply kept them there longer with more intense grilling.

After all, with any legal or other interrogation, the interrogatee usually does not get to dictate how long they can stay - if they are there for twelve hours, they are there for twelve hours.

If they missed the last flight, so what - hire a car and drive back, or book a room and catch the first flight the next day. Amateurs....

I have just relodged a query that we gave up on under the Joyce regime earlier this year. I have explained to Miss Hudson that words are cheap so I am only judging by actions.
An update - just received a completely nonsensical reply addressed to a Mr Ball (not my name). Mr Ball was mentioned multiple times.

Conclusion - words may have changed but have not flowed into actions. I do wonder if some of the people responding to emails can actually comprehend simple English.

I do the same ongoing issues for denying me boarding!

Reported in The Oz on-line today. On phone so posting a couple of screenshot exerpts - article is much longer and worth looking at the details.

Now all we have to do is wonder why Qantas was in favour of curtailing the competition commissions surveillance 🤔
