Qantas Lounge Standards

Why wait for the plane? You'll get a few laughs in the lounge!
I don't change into any PJ's (If i'm in J/F) until at cruising altitude. I also keep my shoes on.

The majority of incidents on aircraft happen during take off or landing, and in the unlikely event of an emergency (queue the safety demo), i'd rather have my jeans and shoes on to make a hasty exit down a slide.

As a consequence, I also change back into my jeans well before top of descent as well.

I did used to get a good laugh out of people in SIN/HKG wandering around in the QF J Pyjamas. Was almost like they were a hospital patient wandering around like a zombie ;)

Wonder how appropriate fairy wings are in the QP? Little Miss 6 is almost always in fairy wings before an international flight. But she's getting a bit beyond that being cute. (They are soft wings, sewn to the shirt, they don't poke out beyond her body and obstruct others)

Maybe I should start with the fairy wings? ;)

I am always "dressed" to evacuate below 10,000 ft... Above 10,000 ft is another matter.

They may assist in an emergency if they were functional wings. ;)

My main gripe is that people should be neat, clean and tidy. Jeans and a t-shirt are fine. I'm not wanting people to wear Sunday best, or trousers and a tie.

How can people not just simply take some pride in their appearance? Neat and Tidy != Hi Viz IMHO.

I'm not going to argue points, it's been done to death.
We have got to the stage where people do not care how they look or how they behave in public.

Take a look around you everywhere you go....

I agree. Times have changed. I'm not an old grumpy coot or anything, but am old enough to remember where goths were probably the most 'far out' sub-group of interesting dressers. These days, they're definitely not stick-out.

Of course, airlines run the lounges so they could actually enforce dress standards. It seems to be more that the bean counters have said 'shhh let them in they line our coffers'.

I think it's great that society has evolved to the point where most people are not so shallow as to judge people based on how they look anymore.

I hope one day we will all be able to wear super comfortable PJs in public, what we wear will have become totally irrelevant, and people will judge us on our actions and achievements.

Lets face it, this thread, and all others in similar vein, are not actually about what people do or don't wear in lounges, but about the lounge operators not being clear in their guidelines and not enforcing whatever those guidelines may be.

Can I suggest this thread, and all others in a similar vein, are actually about the expectations and judgements we carry around with us and expect everyone else to abide to? What I read here (and I do read it because it is very entertaining) is that you/them/hi-vis FIYO persons do not conform to my understanding of the rules. If only everyone could be inside my head and understand my interpretation of the rule then all would be well.

That said, I really don't like it when a bloke cannot keep his pants above his a*#$% and I have seen that in a QF J lounge. Wear what you like, but I don't want to see your bum.

I think your post is only backing up what I wrote above it. Lets have the operator outline their rules so its not up to yours or my interpretation.

IMHO, it's nothing about how people judge you, it's about having some self respect. I couldn't care less what people think of what i'm wearing, but *I* care about what i'm wearing and how respectable I look.

My self respect is certainly tied up with my job, my skills, my achievements and how I behave. I don't think it's got a lot to do with what I wear.

I dress badly and my behaviour is poor...and I'm certain the decline of the Qantas lounges can be traced directly back to my first admittance.

:p

You call that evolution?

All I see is people who have no respect for themselves let alone others.

Sitting in trains with their feet stretched out on seat, sitting at the train station not on the seat but on the backrest with their feet on the seat, playing music without headphones, playing music with headphones too loud, wearing torn ragged clothes etc.

We do not have the time to get to know these strangers but we have to share public transport with them. Show some self-respect instead of trying to rebel against everything.

Sometimes we do not know why a person dresses in manner that may not be acceptable to us but the can be certain circumstances that make it happen. For example I was in the HKG 1st Lounge on Sunday night in shorts and sandal style shoes, because I could not get changed into jeans as my ankle had been burnt by a CX F/A on my previous sector. I spent the next 9 hours on my QF flight in J class with my ankle wrapped in ice and not wearing shoes. Also to ease the pain I was up the front in the bar area resting my leg and keeping it elevated for a little pain management. Not the most attractive look but still managed to get into the J lounge in Sydney the next day I was able to put jeans on by then as thanks to icing my ankle all night the swelling went down. Still I was in pain with it rubbing.
