Qantas Lounge Standards

As per the Qantas Club Terms and Conditions, the dressstandard is as follows:

10.7 - Smart, casual dress standards apply atall times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer thesestandards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances.

When all is said and done, and said again and again, there are club rules that each and everyone agrees to when they sign up.
Thongs, singlets, shorts and other stuff doesn't comply with 'smart casual' in anyones' language. If you don't like it, don't join.
Qantas is working on it!!

Once you finish reading the first sentence of 10.7. Do take the time to read the second sentence. In particular that it is up to the lounge managers discretion. It is upto the lounge manager. Not you. If you wish to change that become a lounge manager.

Except, that to some, it does.

Until Qantas provides indication on what they consider smart casual, it always remain subjective.

Indeed! Subjectively based on the lounge managers discretion.

My guess at the Qantas memo to the lounge dragons is that singlet, shorts and thongs is the minimum allowed.

Virtually everyone seems at ease with that standard for women. For men, some want to see shoulders, legs and toes completely covered.

Personally, I think Qantas has nailed it. If for no other reason than beach trips being very common where singlets, shorts and thongs are all that are packed. Buying a business class ticket to a beach somewhere doesn't mean you have to pack covered shoes and long pants just to get into the lounge. Fortunately, the lounge dragons are well aware of this so you won't have a problem!

again I am astounded at how rude some people are on here with tone and commentary... Also - why are the lounge staff called dragons? Sure they get ansty at times, but with all the wankers addressing them like they are lesser humans, no wonder

My suggestion is that you look at bit of the history of the site before you start shooting from the hip :!:

The term lounge dragon is a term of endearment (I'm sure you know what that is) and it is used in an encompassing sense.

As for calling the other forum members (who you don't know) wankers. Well it's a great way to get everyone offside very quickly and I'm surprised you have done so in light of your own comment on another thread.
sertfy - I have found "aussie humour" or not - calling someone a wanker usually results in a broken nose

I was looking at the best angle of approach to maintain evident AFF post 'ruling parameters" & some obscure unwritten ones..
I'm sure your post has politely explained some of the modern day western world etiquette.

I don't know about you, but in my experience on reading AFF (and FT for that matter), 'lounge dragon' has hardly been used as a term of endearment. In many cases, it is anything from an apt figurative description to flippant slander.

Certainly the W in WP has been used frequently in endearing terms (or typical Australian self-deprecation); hardly the same can be said of the typical use of 'lounge dragon'.

I thought we were using "lounge angel" = endearment and "lounge dragon" = 'nuff said.

Today I am doing a JQ35 F lounge lunch run. Right now, seated in the QF Dom J lounge in BNE I am in a collar, tie and other smartly pressed, respectable garments as befitting a QF flight. Later, in preparation for the J* leg I will change into trackies, uggies and t-shirt to show off the temporary tatts I have applied for the occasion.

I don't believe you have to be smart casual for the Deathstar flight....and congratulations on getting a seat in the dreadful BNE DOM QF J lounge it is usually a tricky exercise.

My last 'smart casual' invite had a dress code explained underneath- no jacket nor tie required.

My own idea is neat jeans with polo or better.

I love this perpetual debate though, it's lots of fun. Personally, I agree with those who believe its about behaviour and not dress.

Have you been working on your star jumps?

That's the thing, if behaving "well" you wouldn't be dropping mud from you HiViz vest, or letting your kids run wild.

Just on the letting kids run wild bit, I'm not going to chastise the parents of a child which has gone hypo provided that the parents are doing things to bring the situation under control.

As a father of 4, I can safely tell you that sometimes the kids just don't behave, and it does take a little while to get them under control again (typically threatening to kick them out of the lounge will bring them back into line, but it's not the first thing we try as we don't really want to have to carry out our threat).

Just got off a flight an hour ago with three kids sitting together in the row in front of me - must have ranged from about six to fourteen or so - and a littly in the row behind me of about two to three. All perfectly well behaved which is more than can be said for the guy on the other side in the same row, who got up to get his bag while the seat belt sign was on, less than sixty seconds from landing.

Are you implying it is dreadful due to the type of people that frequent the lounge?
