Qantas Lounges will begin reopening from 1 November 2021

I don't know if this is correct application of policy or the dragon made a mistake, but I was refused access into the Flounge on Monday when traveling on EK409 as a codeshare QF8409. The lounge was open at the time for the LAX flight. The lady said they're only letting in passengers on QF metal.

That must be a mistake. And a bad one.

Needless to say I was shattered. First time back after 20 months. And my wife's second time ever.

The dragon said no as soon as she was my boarding pass. Then said no because it "wasn't a Qantas ticket". Yes, it was. Then said no because it "wasn't a Qantas flight number". Yes, it was. Then said no because "it isn't Qantas metal".

I was lucky, I went to Marhaba. Drank a lot, ate, looked at the website and of course it said nothing of the sort that she was saying.

Dutch (actually Polish) courage I went back to politely discuss some more. She was unhappy and said the website hasn't been updated but said she would make a "one time exception" and would "immediately check with Sydney".

Made us feel unwelcome. I'm QF Plat FWIW. And made us feel like after "checking with Sydney" she might drag us out by the ear.

Nothing eventuated. Dinner was great except the S&P squid which was obviously from a different supplier. About half it's usual width and chewy. Still, great to be in there.

Hope Sydney doesn't come after me.

first visit to QF dom J lounges in MEL and SYD today in forever. Pretty easy experience to get in just app check in and show the tick etc and scan BP no issue.

but.. how long since they had newspapers? I mean I know it's a small thing but I was kind of looking forward to picking up a rag. I noticed none in gate areas as used to be.

Didn't seem to be a notice or anything about it, and they had a few magazines and the QF mag too

not a huge deal at all but something I noticed.

I'm feeling enhanced :)

Gone for good me thinks

Unfortunately appears travellers on QF codeshare on FJ for SYD-NAN won't have lounge access until just before departure.

I just booked on QF101 which is a QF operated SYD-NAN (didn’t even realize they were doing this tbh). Do we assume the Sydney lounge will be open for the 9:35am departure?

They are currently saying it will be open at 7.35am on the days that QF81 to Singapore flys

Someone doing a survey for Qantas approached me several months back in the Sydney business lounge asking about if I would use a newspaper in the lounge or if I would prefer to view papers on a free app. I said I preferred the printed papers and missed them.
The guy scribbled a few notes in his notepad and left. Obviously my feedback was in the minority or they'd already decided by that point that newspapers weren't coming back and wanted customer feedback to justify it.

Well that's interesting. thanks for sharing the anecdote :)

I mean that is such a minor thing but it did surprise me just a little bit. It was part of my usual lounge thing - grab a coffee and an overpriced rag I'd never normally pick up (ie buy ;) ) and read, and/or take on the plane with me or for later reference. However I'm middle aged and a bit old school in that regard I guess (I am not a fan of PressReader)

but again, it just struck me how they'd goine.

I still got my coffee :)

I understood that this was introduced as a Covid thing. Can't have too many fingers touching the same newspaper, etc, etc.

They've just quietly made it a permanent thing (well, after all, Covid will be here forever).

I did think of that of course and it seems reasonable...
but then I noted that there were still QF mags and a few other glossy mags on the shelf... now people may take the QF mag as they're invited to, but the others it is implied to read and keep in the lounge... so it doesn't make a lot of sense.

In pre-covid times I usually picked a "fresh" (seemingly untouched) paper and just took the whole thing with me so in theory there would be no real risk from that. As I understand it many of the papers were supplied more or less gratis from the publishers and I don't know many really retuened papers to the stack after reading (though I had done so in the past myself).

really though seems like just a cost cutting thing.. either by the publishers, or QF to not have to restock the gate areas and lounges

and again.. not a big deal in my life at all but just interesting to note.

I’m QF platinum and booked on QF codeshare SYD-NAN on Monday. I purposely booked (and paid extra) for the codeshare. Will I not be allowed into the F lounge?

We were in the same flight today booked as QF flight number. Lounge opened roughly at 12 45pm (4 hrs before QF1) and we were able to just grab our champagne and s&p squid just before the boarding call. Boarding call was made at a 1:15pm and commenced at 1:25pm roughly.

They did check to make sure our ticket wasnt directly booked through a FJ flight number.PXL_20211224_015733214.PORTRAIT~2.jpg
