Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

I think this is because those of us without status can often relate to an OP venting.

....and some with status can too.

I can see a lucrative opportunity for a new business venture for Sid James' Enterprises on AFF, he has taken a correspondence course in SAS siege rescue coupled with psychology - I reckon he has a couple of customers at least. :p:p

(i was attempting a rather feeble and failed humorous comparison with my Stockholm Syndrome jibe......I fear it was too close to the mark now. :( )

But then that brings in part two... with other airlines, it doesn't matter if I don't have status because I get the same excellent service. Whether I'm in row 23 or 53, the smiles, attentiveness, availability of meals... same same as in the front row.
Do we just dismiss my awful experience with SQ as just a bad day or am I allowed to use that in statistics?

Virgin Gold sitting in aisle seat somewhere in the middle of economy. Ask for Coke Light and she brings half a cup. Not long after ask again and she brings half a cup. Ask for can and she reluctantly brings can. Ask another 2 times through the flight and she reluctantly brings a can each time. I was really thirsty.

I know to dismiss that as a once off. Nothing on CX economy either as Oneworld Emerald. My wife had good experience on Qantas without status a few years ago.

With economy it's the luck of the draw and status does help for a smoother experience.

well I thought it was funny and your posts are often tongue in cheek, so I took it as that. I wouldn’t dare post on this subject though - been bullied into silence :) :).

Once Sid James Enterprises was mentioned Mr Hancock's post went to the top of my list of enjoyable posts. :):):)

I'm not bullied into silence, but it's become all a bit Meh. I think the term is 'bored now'. I thought the thread would've passed on ages ago, but obviously still creates interest and is important for some, so there you go. I look at the posts intermittently. :)

I have no status and starting to feel a bit out of place in this clash of the titans.

However, QF is still somewhere in my top 3 or 4 for international flights.

And as I've mentioned before, the next flight could be anywhere from great to yuk depending on the plane, the seat, the crew, the food, the weather, the person sitting next to me the catering, or which side of bed I got out of.

MEL_Traveller - not wanting to get really personal but sometimes your comments either sound a bit envious or just annoyed.

Yes, if you can get an exit row on airline X for little or no cost that absolutely makes the travel experience a lot better I absolutely agree with that, but what say on that flight the exits were all full? Do you still rate them as highly? My point is that ALL experiences are so heavily influenced by MANY factors.. not just status or lack of status but individual crews, maybe an IFE hiccup, or even a turbulent flight, or food not to the liking or whatever... I have heard people say they'd never fly airline Y because the landing was rough on a single flight. I mean it's so subjective.

I'd also say that suggesting that the OP (in this case I feel referring to SFO777 and his infamous trip report) actually HAS OWE sttaus, but ine context of his trips it's not really relevant because his TR was based on CoS - being F and J respectively so he received, more or less, what ANYONE on those flights would have received regardless of his status, so I'm unsure as to how that's an argument one way or the other in this specific instance.

As for TH and again not itending to be personal (Griselda scares me :) ) from what I understand of his travel patterns, spend etc BA both the grass was(is) greener and far far better for him given his particular needs - absolutely no question. My comment about "jilted lover" was more the tone of the comments though it would be just as accurate to say that the QF offering no longer took his fancy - two sides of the same coin more or less.

I've already posted how status absolutely can influence perception, but when I comment on pax experience in threads like this I do try to keep that in perspective and am sure to note when I feel I've received something unusual or above and beyond due to status.. in general though with lounges and inflight I've experienced next to zero better or different service to being a P1. In fact on my very last flight a few days ago (dom J) the pax next to me, a Gold as it happens, actually got some very very grreat and personal service from the crew, including a sneaky extra bubbly on descent :)

In Y, which yes I admit I rarely fly on on QF, I've not had any attention whatsoever. Yes I know some good shadows(not had), or offers of wine from J or headphones etc.. I've not had this. I've not worried about it or been upset in any way I am just saying that one can not flatly say that high status always equals better onboard service, or anything different to everyone else. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Personally I prefer to be the same as everyone else in whatever CoS I am in because I think that's fair. Once on board it shouldn't matter (possible exception being meal choice, but that's a whole other can of worms). I actually hate being singled out on board either with a big show of a greeting(thank goodness I have not had that in quite some time) or like being offered wine from J or something - I'd feel so self conscious I think I'd actually say no(!) if I was offered. However that's just me. Obviously some types of people absolutely love that level of attention and bask in it - good for them - each to their own I reckon.

Again, many of us, including probably more of us with higher status than not, are probably more vocal about the flaws than not - given we experience the service more offten.

the thought had crossed my mind given what I know of you and your sense of humiur but I did take it straight up because there is a bit of these comments dooing the rounds imho it at times it does feel that even a slightly positive comment made gets attaked for reasons that bewilder me a bit.

You're all good :)

Very disappointed with my HKG-SYD F award flight last week. Definitely missed the full service offering, only one champers, one G&T and one red wine consumed over the whole flight, admittedly an overnighter and a fairly solid 6 or so hours of sleep which is unusual for me.

Might have had something to do with the 5 hours spent in the Pier prior to the flight however so maybe I shouldn't complain too much;)o_O

But what you describe on SQ is the standard service. Were PPSs getting full cans without asking? And you + other non-stauts pax were denied?

That's the difference. On QF those with status get the spare seats beside them, bulkhead rows, and business class amenity kits, PJs, headphones and wines. On SQ I never feel I'm 'missing out' or treated differently.

The point was that if you get all the perks, you might be willing to overlook a multitude of other issues, which, when compounded, can lead to someone coming on AFF with a negative post.

Slightly OT but is anyone else getting totally blitzed by Qantas marketing emails recently? I swear I’m getting up to five emails a day. Nine since Tuesday.

Not myself, but my mother - who has a semi-dormant QF Account - is, including two targetted SC Bonus offers in the last week.
