Qantas: 'one of the worst airlines in the free world'

I found much of the OP’s review informative and interesting and do agree with some of his observations on QF but the bit I took issue with was his line about finally arriving on one of the worst airlines in the free world. I did not feel that the issues he had would have put QF in this category. IMO he undid all the good work in the report with that line. YMMV and obviously for many it does.
Dang....again.

Well.. here’s the thing... it doesn’t affect anyone, so no need to get upset? It won’t change anyone’s decision to travel on QF if they wish, and the OP hasn’t been announced as the director for anyone’s company travel policy :)

Several things whilst we are right out here in OT land.

Garuda is one airline not just domestic or international. Splitting can lead to all sorts of consequences and levels of misunderstanding.

Quite possibly, but nevertheless the discrimination occurs, or occurred.

My multinational had a different approach from yours. We went to many exotic locations and countries ( and very remote parts of those countries!) and the policy was less formal in those days, but still observed domestic / international differences.

As an aside, Barrick Gold, a very large miner, used to fly it's own planes in many countries to avoid domestic flights. Chile for example. Again, no probs with the international airline.

And I'm sitting here now and I've dropped egg on carpet. Tried cleaning some of it but still spots there. Can't upload photo for some reason. I wonder how long before they notice and clean it.

Deliberately?

If you're doing it deliberately I'd suggest the beef slop for a real test of the cleaners' mettle.

Just wanted to say that I travelled in QF F to DFW about six weeks ago and it was the best flight I've ever had. A wonderful experience! I think some people will never be 100% pleased - that review was a bit cray, especially the bit about the maple cream, lol!

(But agree that the Sydney J lounge can be a bit yuck at times)

Deliberately?
Total accident trying feed little one.

This is irrelevant. It’s like the Council when it tells me the rubbish collection is not their problem and that I have to call the contractor if there is an issue. When the operator tells me this I point out that I pay the council to collect the rubbish and they they have to fix up the issue their contractor created.
Are you suggesting someone from Qantas needs to constantly check the floor in the lounges is cleaned every 5 minutes to ensure there aren't crumbs on the floor?

The BNE business lounge was quite clean. Not many in the lounge at that time of the morning. I did notice some stains on the tiles looking back out towards the apron but I wasn't planning on eating from the tiles.

No - but how about once an hour? Quick pass through the lounge with a manual sweeper.

Worst airline in the world because the lounge is dirty? Surely that should be worst lounge....?

Or perhaps it should be messiest clientele?
Ah, but there were a number of other black marks against the airline, like a nasty person didn't let him into the CL. Sorry, being a tad flippant there. :)

Note to self, do not read this thread!!!

That may not be practical when lounges are quite full.

Sorry my bad expression... not suggesting they actually sweep the floor every hour... but a person just walks through the lounge once an hour and if they spot a pile of crumbs here and there they can zap them up quickly.

I've seen the manual sweepers out when the lounge is very busy.

It seems to do a good job.

It probably needs to be out more often at peak mess times!

I'm currently at Club Autus - there a staff member walking around with a Dyson portable who's sole role appears to be efficiently draining it's battery (quietly as it's a Dyson). Nary a crumb to be seen.

Seriously? Who would ever object to anyone cleaning up a dirty lounge. There’s no need to vacuum. Or a Dyson would get it done very quickly and no pesky cords.

Well yes indeed. That was the comment that most inflamed.

I hear an echo about not reading this thread :D

My God! This thread is still going??

Must be love_the_life's fault :)

At the end of the day, I feel thanks to SFO777 for some entertainment.

For the record, and hopefully, unlike love_the_life, my real actual last post in this thread :) , I admit I never bothered to read SFO's actual blog. Don't have the time. There are so many thousands of bloggers with experience , so many "fortunate to get millions of points", etc, that it would just be wasting my time.

But please do not think I am knocking him on that. I really do not care how QF ranks in someone's universe - I care about how they rank to me. And I both love and hate them. His comment or highlighting of the "zoo" environment of the J lounge is great - I always hope QF listens to any frequent flyers and sees what actually peeves them. And as I have posted elsewhere, the "priority boarding" system that QF has is so stunningly wrong to me, I almost think it is some sick joke.

What is that acronym that people use that I have never mastered? "YMMV" or similar. This is a case of that.

Kudos to him to grace our site with his visit - I do actually respect that. But I suspect it will be short-lived - the money and fame on the internet is on sheer numbers, and so FT is a better use of his time.

I must admit that the times I get disappointed with airlines is usually with F and J travel.

It's always OK but it rarely lives up to their hype.

Y on the other hand can be good at times - especially as I am never expecting anything too great. It can be awful at times too but at least I was expecting it!

Please. Attack the argument and not the person!
