I've had the "almost use points" experience a few times. After seeing Matt's post in today's AFF Gazette, I downloaded the app to turn off redemption. I had a user/password, so I expected spin up to be quick. No such luck. I'm not the app design expert, but BPme seems to be slow and clunky, and not friendly. After logging on, and after clearing at least two 2FA hurdles, I repeatedly received a "temporary error" message and the redemption switch could not be changed. Then I noticed (after logging in and out a few times) that points was disabled. So I enabled, and after an interminable period, enablement happened. THEN I was able to go to the settings and turn off the switch, and a heap of other notification switches that had been off but were now on.

Conclusion is that, weirdly and despite the setting being disabled, I was getting the "use QF points" at the counter when maybe that should not have happened?

It makes me not want to be bothered with using the Qantas/BP link at all. It's simply too easy to get it wrong.

This popped up. I can't say that I've been a good loyal BP customer - though judging by the number of loyalty cards in my wallet I must be one of the most loyal people on the planet - and while I activate any offers sent to me, I rarely actually head out to BP to claim them.

A glance at the T&C once I burn up the "ACTIVATEOHGODYES!" button and I find that it gets better. Apart from the usual "eligible products" spiel about gift cards and ATO payments and so on, I find the following:



No minimum spend! Just rock up, buy whatever I can find for ten cents or so, and I get a boost in the points bucket.

Speaking as one of those who paid one cent off their Telstra bill fifty times a day in the glory days of the Great BankWest 5 QFF points per transaction Disaster, I'm totally on board with the "no minimum spend" thing. I have no shame and if they are selling single jelly beans, I'll come back on the second day to buy another.

Errm, what is the cheapest eligible item? I have a feeling that this may be the best place to ask.

I have just checked my offer and it is only 2 x points on any spend. Nowhere near as good as yours @Skyring .

Better check the minimum delivery, I think it is usually around 2 litres? Having seen the prices inside their store that is still probably the cheapest item.

I’d give it a try myself but doing down to the servo to buy one litre of fuel strikes me as even less useful than activating a BP points offer.

Had a couple of good offers from BP recently.

One was an offer for 200 points for spending $10 or more in store so I grabbed some milk and bread and the current offer was 200 points by filling up and grabbed shop in store (with no minimum spend required).

As for using QFF points at BP, I just press cancel the first time, when it prompts "use points" and then tap with the QTMC.
It does feel bad to have to press cancel, like as if we are cancelling the purchase.
But I guess, the store counter girl/guy would know about it too, /we hope the all do.
I am not going to go into the hassle of BPme app(ing) after reading themaiz's reply above.

Once you chat to them, recommend you follow @PineappleSkip's advice above and turn off this "feature". You were scanning to earn but they helpfully also prompt you to then use your points to pay for fuel unless you turn it off.

Usually the check out person, or the instore BP cash register person, would ask if you want to use points, and then to press cancel at the question, on the EFTPOS screen.
If you are not careful, you would press yes, or the green button to approve the transaction, and 4000 QFF points would go from your QFF account for $10 off fuel, or something like that.
As above have mentioned, try to turn off "use points at BP" via the BP app/QFF account, ...
Not sure if you can get the points refunded, as you have gotten $10 off fuel/in store purchase already.

You have to press "cancel" at this point, important for others who read this, and do not want to use QFF points at BP.
It might seem like you are cancelling the transaction, but you are in fact at this point, cancelling the use of QFF points for that particular transaction.
Also have to know the 4 digit rewards code, which I don't know, as I have always pressed "cancel" at the use points prompt.
Edit: just went into my QFF app, and noticed where the the 4 digit code, appears only on the top line of the QFF app, not on the QTMC.
So to actually use points at BP, there are many double checks procedures, if you don't type the 4 digit (enter to use points), I presuppose the procedure to use points at BP would not happen.

Hey thanks for the welcome. I imagine it’s incredible unlikely but I will try nonetheless. I was not informed anything from the cashier. They just let me scan my card, and I thought I had to type my code in to earn my points. Ultimately I understand this was my error. Just really sucks

I also used the QFF card that you add to your apple wallet rather than the app. It is a lot harder to recognise that you don’t need the code this way. On the app the code is up the top and says “to use points” but the version I used was a tad misleading.

Did you get a reduction on fuel $.
If yes, claiming points back will be a no, I feel.
But its a learning experience anyway.

Yes I did. There’s no chance of getting the points back. A learning experience and a mistake I’ll never make again. NEVER USE THE CODE PEOPLE
