Qantas Plans OneWorld Superterminal at Sydney

Problem is it isnt really in Sydney, its in the middle of no where (would be over $250 in a taxi or uber to get there from the city more from the Northern beaches) and I expect once it opens people will pay a premium to fly out of the easy to get to SYD, whilst the LCCs and freight head out west.
Perhaps but it will have a good rail connection out there and with no curfew you might find some airlines are happy to move their operations out there eventually. It’s going to be absolutely groundbreaking for freight and we are already planing on moving some of our MEL operations up there.
I don’t think it will be a instant success for passenger services but it would be nice if it does

The key question is what the state government will do about Sydney's West which has poor transit options. Perhaps they can use this opportunity to improve the quality of transport in that region. If I were the Prime Minister of NSW, I for one would simply build a non-stop train connecting the airport to Central station. It's approximately a 60 km drive, and most modern trains can easily exceed 200 km/h, so there's no reason why you can't bring that journey time down an inconsiderable amount, especially when compared to our friend Kingsford Smith which takes a good 15 or 20 minutes anyway on the Green line to get from Central to the airport.

Oh and to get the thread back on topic (for once), I do have a couple of questions for those following this thread:
  1. Is it easier for an airline to plan facilities for an airport under construction versus changing an existing airport?
  2. How much influence will Uncle Alan and other airlines have on the design of this new airport?
  3. Who is funding the new Western Sydney Airport?
  4. Will the airport be subject to curfews and if not, how would that impact airport operations generally?

We do have *(SYD)* Western Sydney/Sydney Western Airport coming in a few years time.
Wonder how that is going to work, reading OP's link.
The new airport will probably cost millions.
So how is that going to work?
Move VAi and partners and freight to the new airport at Badgerys Creek, and leave QF and OW at Mascot?
Edit:
New airport, fed and NSW state govt share the cost.
Might also have a gate fee when the train gets to it.
But there will be many opportunities for cost recovery, hundreds of vending machines, hundreds of stores, so many travellers paying the various security and other airport levies, ...
For Kangarooflyer88, we need a VFT for that route.
Can't have a suburban pax line, as the train will be ultra crowded, look at the current train from Central to Mascot Airport, no baggage hold area, mix of suburban pax and dom and int travellers, and its not well announced on the pa that the train has 2 stops at the 2 separate dom & int airport terminals, ...
Not sure what would happen if an int pax got off at the wrong terminal at the airport train station.

Nancy Bird will be based more on the Aerotroplis concept, similar to Inchon.

Well when T1 was actually built it was delivered on time and on Budget. Work started in late 1966 and was opened by the Queen in early 1970.
As well as the International terminal the project also involved the extension of the North South runway from 4500 feet to 7500 feet which involved the first extension into Botany Bay. In the late 70s it was further extended.

Contrast the with MEL. A search to replace Essendon began in 1958. In 1959 the Commonwealth acquired 13000 acres at Tullamarine. On 27/11/62 Menzies announced a $45 million plan to open a jetport at Tullamarine by 1967. The first sod was turned in November 1964. Officially opened by John Gorton on 1/7/70.
The little known story is that the Queen's visit in 1970 was planned around opening Tullamarine but it wasn't ready in time so she came to Sydney instead.

Western Sydney will have no curfews hence why freight companies are clamouring to get out there.

The Aust govt outsourced the running of all Aust airports, to private companies, who runs most of each as an individual business.
Wonder who will get to run the new airport out at Badgerys.
Edit: from searching google, Parklifemetro will run the train system, so its a possibility that it might be a separate service from TransportNSW, so there will be gate fees.
+ it will will be driverless, from St Marys to Bringelley, so will need to have special power cars and carriages.

Western Sydney Airport Co (WSA) will run the airport and they are a government owned company so the Feds will actually have ownership and why they are kicking in $6bn of funds
