Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Is there something special about EK IFE that I missed? I found it ordinary at best. In my opinion IFE has lost its early gloss.

EK IFE has, by far, more selection out of any other airline I've flown with. If anything IFE is only getting its gloss now with airlines finally providing proper screens to watch movies, especially in premium cabins.

I used to be able to watch 2-3 new movies on every trip to Thailand. Now it's the same movies months on end.

I had my first P1 flight this morning. MEL-ADL 0700 on QF671.
Usually, not much upsets me about travelling. Things happen (delays, aircraft and seat changes etc) that are out of my control. I usually collect a boarding pass at the lounge, as I like to have a larger paper copy.
When the lounge attendant printed the pass, I knew it wasn't my selected seat, which was 4F. My boarding pass had 4E on it .
I don't do don't middle seats on any aircraft if I can avoid it. I asked the lady what happened to my selected seat and she was unable to tell me , but she did say "it is a very full flight, so there may have been a few seat changes to seat couples together".
I didn't question it any further, but I was pretty disappointed with the whole scenario. Flight was ok but never had this issue as a WP.
Maybe I had an idea in my head that it would be a little more pleasant being P1.

Absolutely unacceptable for a WP let alone a P1. Ask the P1 team what happened and what they will do to prevent it happening again.

If a P1 must be moved from row 4 then it should only be to row 3 or lower.

But the OP wasn't moved from row 4.
I'm being a bit pedantic here and I agree that if your seat is going to be moved from an aisle/window to a middle then at least asking you by paging in the lounge would be nice. Has happened to me on a few occasions and in the main I'm ok with it for a short flight.

Not sure what if anything the P1 team can do about things under Airport control though.

I agree somewhat. However, I didn't like the explanation and how it was delivered. The P1 team could also teach the lounge staff some customer service.

It would seem something has gone terribly wrong, I usually opt for 4C/D and have never been moved to a B/E seat. When I have been moved without being informed it has been from row 4 to row 1. As for couples wanting to sit together, I have been called to go to the service desk, normally to be told I have been moved and then handed a J boarding pass.

I think it's something to do with Adelaide. Same thing happened to MrP recently.

Why would it be 'something to do with Adelaide', from Dmac6345 OP the flight in question is QF671 which departs MEL.

In my experience the ADL QF team is small but very attentive and responsive to higher tier QFF members.

P1 members should always report travel issues regarded to QF as their feedback is taken more seriously. The problem may not be solved right away but at the very least P1 will offer points or some other type of compensation depends on the issue.

Did you happen to see the status of the pax in 4F? I'm struggling to see how moving you to 4E helps anyone else "sit together".

as others have said, it's airport control so very little the P1 team can do -- other than the usual "I'm sorry". Don't bother contacting them. You'll just get a rep for being a whiner (like me).

It is just another sign that P1 is a make-believe status with very inconsistent benefits, where even the simple things (don't move a P1 without first making contact - how hard is that?) can't be relied upon. At least for 3rd class P1s (also like me!).

^ This- 100% agree ^

To me, it smells of airport staff putting their buddies in prime seats.

Or CL. Happened to me once, moved from 4C to 5C in MEL. Lounge staff had no idea why, said was done by the SYD team so they called SYD and found out someone there decided to proactively move CL to better seat on my expense. This really pissed me off and after I verified this CL had no medical condition require them extra legroom I demanded my seat back and got it. This never happened again since.

Don't mess with boomy!

Great if you know in advance, but no joy if a downgrade happens at the gate (as has happened to me 3 times as a P1 - though to be fair 2 times were for very clear medical/mobility issues and explained to me at the gate so not a problem, the 3rd time no idea). Never been bumped up to J in such a scenario.

Flew into Australia last week on QF28 SCL-SYD. Sat in 1A. Initial service was lacklustre (seems the norm on that route now), and a few hours into the flight while everyone slept, I hit the call button to ask for food. It is my experience recently on these flights that cabin crew do not tend to do a walk-around ever. 15 min later still noone had appeared so I hit the call button again. A flight attendant appeared this time, and I asked for the "fish cakes". These were one of the two "anytime during the flight" meal/snack items. The fa informed me that she "thought" they had run out of both the fish cakes and the other option (a chicken sandwich?), but they had some bags of chips and there was some "leftover cheese"!! What??!! Three hours into a 14 hr flight? They have run this line on me a couple of times this year. My face must have expressed growing anger and the fa said she would check. She reappeared a few minutes later with a COMPLETELY different attitude. Suddenly I was being offered both choices, actually she recommended to have both as the fish cakes were a small meal, and offered wine, etc. The change in attitude was amazing, so I suspect she may have done a status check or something. In any case it did not make me feel great for being P1, it just made me sad how J pax are treated on those flights.

For anyone familiar with the first row in the non-refurb 747's, 1A is a stand alone seat. To the right across the aisle there is a small table that sits in front of the two middle seats in row two. After about an hour I wanted to get out of my seat but no crew had come past to collect the plates/glasses/etc, so I leant over and put it all on that small table. It was still sitting there uncollected a couple of hours later when I finally decided to take a nap.

I don't sleep much on planes, even those long haul flights. I know that is not the norm, but it is truly sad that QF staff are able to make you feel like being a pest for daring to be awake during the bulk of the flight. In the past I have encountered really wonderful staff on that route, but for the past year or more I have not exactly been enchanted.

After arriving at SYD I got QF552 up to BNE. A short flight, but the bloke who served me on that leg was just perfect - reminded me why I fell in love with Qantas to begin with.

Sorry, starting to ramble on - really I should write a letter to Qantas about the absolute piss-poor experiences I am getting on QF27/28, and also maybe I should have written something to congratulate the guy on QF552. But to be honest, that would take up my time and I know I will just get some standard "thank you for your feedback - we will pass on <good comment> / strive to improve <negative comment> I just can't be bothered.

No good treatment as a P1 on long haul in my experience. :(

It used to be the case that the F/J 747 crews were amongst the most senior in the fleet and on an old and very good for them payscale. I don't know whether that has changed, but mostly I've noticed a distinct difference between the 747 crews (not very good) and the A380 crews (very good). Mind you, I did the SYD-SCL vv trip last year with my +1 and we had pretty attentive service (my +1 is WP in own right). I was dreading a transpac on a 747 as the last 747 trip I'd had was LAX-JFK and it was, to put it mildly, appalling (and I told QF about it afterwards).

On a recent MEL-LAX flight in F on the A380, I was very well looked after. I wanted to mix and match my main course for lunch (meat from one; side from another) and the crew said no problem you can ask for anything and we'll make it happen, you're a P1 and a very valuable passenger etc etc. It may have helped that I'd flown with two of the crew before and we all remembered the last time (which was particularly fun).

Yes. My bad.
Our experience differs to yours though. Adelaide is our base.

I've given up to be honest. The most I have had from the P1 team is a couple of polite emails. None of the things I have raised have been investigated or treated any differently to when I was just WP.

Just a Bronze heading back home after attending the GP. Her husband was NOT traveling with her. To be fair, the lounge angel didn't actually say 'they moved me specifically for a couple'.
