Qantas Platinum One experiences?

@kermatu reading your post above what were you expecting from QF F. The experience as posted above is pretty much standard QF F.
As I said, my expectations weren’t high already. Yet I still felt underwhelmed.
Returned to Oz on QF36 in F and while still average food, some lapses in service and of course the SIN QF lounge, some of the experience was quite a bit better and service felt more genuine. Will post more in relevant threads this week.

Sat next to a Qantas Platinum One on the way back from Fiji so I asked him about how it worked.
He admitted he was a workaholic doing at least 80 hours a week so he thought the work done for him by the P1 team was fantastic.

I wonder what work the SST do exactly for that pax.. I mean they don't do bookings and stuff so... yeah.. interesting comment but OK good for him.

I did get the feeling that he might jump on a flight to places like Mt Isa , the Pilbara or Olympic Dam or somewhere like that at short notice.

I had a different sort of "experience" a couple of days ago....

Was travelling SCL-SYD on QF28 (as always). Since I have retained P1 for next year, and having LTG (hence more SC mean zero) I have been trying out Premium Economy. Not flash, but OK.

Was sitting in 35B - this is the second row in the PE cabin where there are only two seats on the "left". I don't know if it was a shadow effect, but 35A was the only seat empty in the cabin - I was happy with that :)

But after about an hour into the flight, two young blokes sitting behind me in 36A+B started to be a pain. Constant kicks to my seat (forgive me for reclining on a 14 hr flight)

The guy in 36A left his IFE screen on, but swivelled to the front (not watching it - too busy ordering more rums). The light in the otherwise dark cabin was jarring, so I reclined 35A a bit to hide the light. This really upset the pair. They started kicking the seat and trying to force it back. I advised them not to do this but they kept at it, telling me that as it was an empty seat I had no right to recline it. I was not looking for conflict, but after a couple of hours of this is got worse. the guy behind me started to push my seatback up slowly, then suddenly drop it. Not cool. He did this a few times before I snapped. Perhaps because I heard one of the calling me a "w" (as in the "w" in wp). I contemplated assaulting them, merely a choice thought but given the circumstances (being airborne) an unwise one, so I was not rude, I stood up, and went and sought the cabin staff. The CSM swiftly appeared and invited the two youngsters to go with him and chat. They reappeared a few minutes later, and for the remaining 8 or so hours of the flight I heard not a peep out of them, and my seat was no longer kicked.

Upon arriving in SYD the CSM came and asked me how the rest of my flight went, and I thanked him ;)

I have had great champagne sent to me on renewal of a P1 membership year ......"a High class Tattinger Blanc de Blanc."........but the upgrades are very poor and have maybe experienced one or two per year .......but this year zero.

So this is really a first world problem, but the new seat selection tool blocks 5A on the A380. Reservations wouldn't allocate it to me, but the SST did.

Interested to hear your thoughts on 5A. I’ve never sat there due to the galley proximity.
Sat there plenty of times and never really noticed any noise.
If you want to sleep instead of eat breakfast on arrival then I’d suggest keeping the NC headphones in. Depending on the FAs the cutlery and plates in the morning may waken you but other than that it’s pretty quiet.
Having the little extra shelf for your items is good.

Curious... when was your renewal? I've never heard of champ being sent on renewal.. just the "Christmas" gift....

You'd hope that the CSM would do this for anyone no matter their status (not that you're suggesting this was a P1 specific "service") but great that whatever they did or said had the desired result.

As for the behaviour of the blokes behind you. *sigh* fair dinkum so annoying some people have no consideration for others and act like children. Drives me crazy but sadly more and more common in our society in general.

me.. I always try to be considerate of people around, in front and behind me to cause as little impact as possible(while enjoying my flight).

*jumps off mini soapbox*

Have just re-qualified P1. Year ends at end-September. Didn't think I'd get it again as travel has dropped, plus switched a few trips to VA and SQ, and only a couple of flights had the prospect of DSCs.

The above will continue even more so this next year so very likely this will be my last P1 year.

I think this is the first time I have retained P1 status, as I'm pretty sure my three years to date have had a non-P1 year in between. Question for the P1 veterans - do you get any welcome / call / email upon retention or do they wait for membership year to tick over?

Ticked over roughly a week ago and was overseas at the time. No call or email. So just curious.

I ticked over back in May or June (End Aug membership year ends) no call etc. I think i noted ealier I seem to have gotten them every other year so far. meh.

No new card yet but suspect the lame envelope of nothingness to show up in the next week or so. It really is cough the renewal package.. basically the card. I mean gee could throw in SOMETHING! I don't mean a bottle of champagne but gee... a bag tag(not coaster) or a voucher for something? Beuller?

Thanks. Will expect nothing. Then be underwhelmed again anyway.
I think a bottle of wine from Epiqure (nothing OTT, maybe just one of their First wines) would be a nice acknowledgment of retention. Pretty sure I had two wines, or a bottle of champers on qualification to P1 -- including back when they had me classified as Govt employee -- so seems odd to not gift someone who has retained it.
No big deal. Would of course prefer a few more specific benefits (or choices of benefits) as discussed many times on here, but would seem very unlikely this will happen.
I'll try to do the flight sim and maybe get along to an event this coming year. I did get 3 or 4 invitations this year which was a big improvement.

I received an average to above average bottle of wine from Amex for each new Centurion membership year

<sarcasm>And that shows how good Amex customer loyalty always is</sarcasm>

Every year Champagne has been sent out even the year I slipped from WP1 to WP. It still made it by some curious computer glitch after flying in the US.
