Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I’m doing a bit at the moment, mixed with some VA flights. P1 experience limited to arranging spa appointments in the F lounge. Occasionally I’ve had to HUACA (actually email) but eventually been successful, including some nice flexibility from the lounge hosts to accommodate my schedules and delays. I value the short spa appointments so this is a good benefit for me.

Very hit and miss greetings onboard. All recent flights on J so no chance of upgrade or special treatment. Not that VA is proving to be that much better — although service (on the A330) priority boarding and baggage easily beat QF. Both are disappointing me on my trans-Tasman flights.

How great it is not to fly for 3 weeks, only happens this time of year, first flight Monday the 14th, I am sitting at 2200 points in 6months, and I don’t think this next 6will be any quieter, first trip of the year Melbourne-Atlanta-Toronto-Atlanta-Melbourne, and thank god all J class.

Have just found this forum after flying solid for 20 years, only reason I found it was I was looking for luggage recommendations, trying to juggle the BS 7kg carryon bag limit with quality is hard, leaning towards a Briggs and Riley Kinzie International CarryOn at the moment.

Welcome aboard Rikster, despite flying solid for 20 years, I'm sure you will be able to pick up plenty of tricks from the contributors who love sharing their knowledge with others.

I did get a proactive email from SST advising me that the SYD J lounge was closed and pointing me to the QP. My expectations were managed so the massive step down from J lounge to the QP hurt a little less (yes I am kidding).

Just landed here in Haneda off a very full QF25 SYD-HND service (departed SYDNEY 7 Jan). We pushed back about 20 minutes late and landed around 25 minutes late. Spent a large amount of time waiting in the queue for a departure from Sydney.

Having done this sector 4 times over the last 5 weeks in either PE or Y I’ve found the service to be varied. The cabin crew appear to be the more senior from QF. The majority still appear to enjoy the job or as was the case on last evenings flight some of the crew couldn’t get away from the job quick enough. Doing back-to-back red-eyes QF25/26 on 2 * 9hr+ sectors over a 48hr period is a tough schedule.

A little OT fact, I was talking with a FA the other day and apparently KIX is the most sought after route so I assume HND may be not far behind it. As such, you get the senior staff who get priority on routes waiting out to redundancy mixed with those who genuinely like their job so hit and miss service to be expected.

Requests to purchase lounge passes (and resultant discussion) have been removed.

JT, I agree and thank you for your moderation of this thread. It was completely correct. But just for the record, in defense of the new member who may have breached the rules, I understood very clearly that it was an inadvertent breach. He is new, and wanted a pass, but was unaware of a few things. His offer to "buy" was more that he did not feel comfortable in just asking for a gift :) I respect that, and hope we all welcome him despite that slip.

And I am also sure that not a single P1 on AFF would actually sell a pass. Some here happily gift them, others like myself have family or friends who extract them from us forcefully :) But selling is I suspect of no interest to any of us.

Welcome to the site and this thread. I am actually a big fan of Briggs and Riley however the only advice I will offer is make sure all the wheels on spinner luggage is the same size.

Thanks Matt, interesting point on the wheels, never even thought about them being a different size. This will be my first entry into spinners, I have been a "dragger" this whole time, but with terminals just getting more insanely busy these days and more and more people glued to their devices I am just sick of people tripping over or knocking into my luggage. I will lose a little bit of space, but I think I can live with that.

My two choices for quality were B&R and TravelPro, but with TravelPro not having any repair agents here it really looks like B&R will be the winners, the B&R Kinzie comes in at 3.5kg so still going to be a challenge, but will move to a larger computer case/carryall and combine some of the weight I think - like most I just hate checked luggage.

Also not sure if it’s been mentioned here (I didn’t see it in the AusBT article a little while ago about the Perth transit lounge) but there’s champagne for P1/ CL available. Just go up to the bar and ask showing your BP or if you see the first/ chairman’s host wandering around ask them. French champagne instead of the Australian sparkling which is a nice change (same as SIN, LHR, HKG, etc)

Because we know the Briefings are jam packed with interesting articles, great deals and news we can use. I cant't wait for it to land in my malbox.

All I want for Christmas is an immediate offer of DSC before the current sth america sale finishes tomorrow :(

y'know this thread s now over seven years old. Strange to believe that P1 has been around quite so long.

For the 2nd time in my membership I’ve crossed the threshold of 3,600 SC ..... although this is my first time as a P1.

Should end my year on a number a little over 4,000SC. Very happy to say there is only 14 whY flights in that number:)

So it seems the quarterly briefing is dead. Irrespective of what we thought of it, it's just another sign of how haphazard this program is - a major initiative scrapped in such a short space of time.

Have you received advice that it has been ceased, or is it your presumption based on the 3 weeks since quarter end and nothing has shown up yet

Presumption. The SST didn't even know the Briefing existed for at least two editions so I would not bother asking them.
