I think the T&Cs of the P1 Lounge passes have been changed with no notification.
Not sure how / when this happened.

You used to be able to gift a P1 lounge pass to someone who could use it if they were traveling on a QF marketed flight ie. a QF flight number.

How do I know this ?
Because I gave one to someone flying Y on AA as a QF codeshare and they were able to attach that pass to their booking and visit SYD F
This was in January 2020

At some point the T&Cs have been updated to say can only be used on a QF or JQ marketed and operated flight.

Kind of defeats the original purpose of them which was to allow P1 to bring an extra guest into the lounge with them.
My experience above is exactly why I used my pass.

Does anyone know when they changed this and what if any notification they gave to us ?

You’re right - this is a recent change. I used for a marketed flight earlier this year

Definitely does seem to defeat the purposes of the pass for my P1 friend though. However, sounds like a fairly minor benefit relative to opening seats and general OW Emerald lounge access?

It's part of solving the over crowding problem. Annoy the biggest spenders the most so they jump ship to Star Alliance

The P1 page is quite clear
“Operated by and has a QF or JQ flight number”
The “operated by” is the new part. The FAQ section for P1 has also been updated to reflect this.

Quite a good experience in the MEL F lounge yesterday - flying MH, lounge very quiet, I asked and the manager did let two of my colleagues in (on same MH flight) with no hesitation. Spa still closed at 9pm though. Turmeric chicken plus eggplant seems to be a relatively new addition to the menu and was pretty good as well.

Got a call from QF this afternoon and when I answered I wondered whether it was to ask why I’d cut down travel of late when in fact it was to tell me I’d won the trip to London from the competition in the last P1 briefing. To say I’m stoked would be an understatement!

What does existing membership mean? The current annual earning year or does it mean that so long as I'm P1?

I also understand that they adopt my anniversary month so if I had earned P1 in July and my Anniversary is August, do they get it for July + 12 months till next year's anniversary month?

Based on experience I'm not sure if there is a definitive answer to this. I'm pretty sure I nominated my partner platinum very soon after qualification and that person's WP expiry date does not align with mine and is quite long-dated so honestly not sure how it works in practice.

Did any have any luck getting the special pjs with the P1 code thru the marketplace? I tried and it didn’t like me, the code, my browser.
I gave up. Now it’s sold out! My friend’s son is an avid fan. So I ended up making him his own amenity kit.

So, you get the option to nominate when you become P1 (or at least I did, and I don't see why it would have changed). It's on the account summary page.

Then, every year if one re-qualify you can change the nomination (one per membership year). The last time I did it, I called up a week or so (iirc) before the anniversary date and the team put it through. Of course one has to have gotten to the 3600 at that point.

You can make the first nomination online, but thereafter you need to call to get it changed. If you don't change the nomination rolls over (assuming the P1 membership does too, of course).

About the anniversary and the allocation - the nomination would carry for the rest of the membership year and the next (at least this is what I've experienced). However in the case of changing a nomination, as I did just prior to the anniversary date, then the nomination went for the full membership year after (which was what was intended).

The nominee's status is aligned with the P1 gifting it, regardless of their own status, but as I understand it any SC's they earn still clock up to their own status earning - I think it is within their usual membership year. ie once the gifted status expires (ie the P1 loses their status or changes their nomination) they will revert to their own earned status and membership year - so depending on the date overlap it may give them a bit extra of WP or not (assuming they have earned less that Plat).

Covid confused things as gifted status holders earned all the extensions and such too - which was great.. but it's funny as someone I gifted status to, but changed in 2019, actually wound up holding WP until last year (they hadn't taken that required flight under that extension promotion),

I am so pleased to hear this news and well done. I have been entering the P1 give-a-ways since the P1 briefing started. No one ever seemed to win but to be fair I never checked the results. From memory @Princess Fiona posted about winning something and now you, it has restored some faith that the competition is real and not just words in an email.
