Qantas Platinum One experiences?

The request was for late October this year. Post school holidays.

I'll give them a call again today.
I was trying to get seats released to the UK in Sep-Oct this year at around the time they were released last year. I questioned why they could not be released as it was well outside the Northern Summer period holidays. I seem to recall the agent informing me she could not see seats that could not be released until some time after Oct 23 minus the odd 1 or 2 days, In the end I gave up. I had another go earlier this year for Apr 24 and was declined and when talking to to the agent it was mentioned that seats to the UK are in high demand and the bot knock back and the ability for agents to to seats that can/not be released just keeps on getting extended. As @chooms mentioned going the long way round could be an option as is the +10% QF penalty for using CX, JL or any other partner airline.

Thanks for all the data points everyone.

I did end up calling again a few hours ago and told me that my previous request is currently being reviewed and I'll receive an email. Before I called I did see a PNR under my bookings with it being "On Request". Any ideas when I'll hear back?

Also got my Welcome pack which is definitely a lot more than expected. Just wanted the card and some tags!

Took me a couple of days IIRC to get an email with either a yay or a nay.
Before they used to say I'd be called with the result. I've never been called.

Just keep checking the booking periodically. If they confirm, the status will appear as CONFIRMED. If they don't, the status will remain ON REQUEST.

Looks like it's confirmed :) SYD-LHR late October confirmed in F! No email/phone call but I'll give them a call tomorrow to take finalise the details.

My only year as P1 is going swimmingly well.
Sounds like the "Analyst" (read: Artist formerly known as the Route Controller) has been kind to you! Congrats.

Great outcome indeed! Definitely asking for one seat is probably far, far easier.

I was going to suggest (as I was reading through) to even try breaking up the sectors potentially like QF291 SYD-SIN, then QF1 SIN-LHR next day or something like that, or even look to get to SIN from MEL/BNE etc in J as options

but this is a much better outcome. Sweet!

An interesting update to my booking on the BA website (I have an AA booking LAX-LHR-MUC) that has seen lounge change from the BA First lounge to mentioning Concorde Room. As far as I’m aware, as a QF P1 on AA metal in PE and then BA euro whY, I wouldn’t get access to Concorde Room at LHR. But the info on the booking has changed. I do note the caveat re BA Premier though… but is that because of my P1 attached to the booking?

Did my first domestic Y flight in a while and got extremely well looked after. I didn’t receive an upgrade but certainly enjoyed a drop or two of the red from the front. I wouldn’t expect this on every service but was pleasantly surprised.

Additionally, I was met at the gate from an EK flight to get a personal escort from A to B concourse. Unclear if status related but did expedite the process in DXB.

As a follow up, I didn’t end up even trying…. Heathrow was a mess and I just wanted a shower and a coffee. No BA showers were available the entire time I was in the F lounge before my next flight. And I reckon the aircon was off too…

AA were amazing at LAX from checkin at the Flagship First suite and escorted right through to front of security queue. Interestingly, with my AA flight departing from Terminal B, they directed me to the ‘oneworld business lounge’ as opposed to QF First. I checking out Flagship lounge before moving to QF F where I was warmly welcomed and escorted to a table even though I wasn’t flying QF. I then got a personal thank you and notice to head to the gate.

I’ve also said this before, but the P1 call centre and staff are the absolute best and I still reckon this is the no. 1 benefit of the status. Has to re-route flight home and they changed it no problem at all even though I had commenced travel on the ticket (is a classic reward booking).

Is it possible use the P1 line to try and get seat assignments for a friend in Y on the same flight? Long shot....

I'm still intrigued about the Concorde Room showing! Surely just a mistake but would be lovely if a new perk was on the way*. Perhaps something to do with Chelsea access at JFK for JFK-AKL flights (would be great if this was coming)?

*Not holding my breath

I’m highly doubtful/ sceptical as anything slightly positive would have well and truly been spun by QF.

Happy to be proven wrong though!

Anyone visiting T5 willing to give it a whirl? :) Otherwise I wouldn't mind quizzing them in October when I'm there.

Requested J SYD-LAX in the middle of November. Will see what they say.

Came back confirmed! Didn't think F was worth it this time around.
