Qantas Platinum One experiences?

I am so pleased to hear this news and well done. I have been entering the P1 give-a-ways since the P1 briefing started. No one ever seemed to win but to be fair I never checked the results. From memory @Princess Fiona posted about winning something and now you, it has restored some faith that the competition is real and not just words in an email.
Leaving aside trustees and SME owners, and assuming the nominative value of any arbitrary give-away is about AUD 50,000; is anyone able to briefly comment on the tax-treatments for folks receiving the full-pension, and/or full-time wage earners?

any chance that this could be classed as prizes or something similar in line to lottery-winnings? I am no accountant and am asking out of curiosity... thanks

Generally, prizes are not taxed, but best go to the source on this type of thing: Prizes and awards.

Cheers,
Matt.

Yes, I’ve been entering them all too. Whilst I was a little sceptical about who won these in the past, I was pretty sure they were legitimate as they stated they were facilitated by a third party. Plus I believe that competitions (especially those of values such as these) are much more tightly governed these days

Requested seat release in any cabin departing MEL in September and returning from LHR in December. Didn’t expect much joy for those dates and expectations were met. They found one sector, SIN-MEL in J, but nothing for the other three I needed. They did try a few options but we couldn’t make it work. So bought cash fare and requested upgrades - will report back on how they go.

First time P1 going smoothly.

Got over the line on Tuesday evening and received a phone call on Friday congratulating me.

Flying to MEL this morning and an earlier flight has been cancelled meaning flow on effects. They also permitted people to fly ahead most likely in preparation for further cancellations later in the day.

I lost my shadow in Y due accomdations for the cancelled flight and fly aheads. A family was split up and I was asked to move a few rows back to accommodate them. I obliged and it wasn't a big deal. Did wish QF managed the family situation a bit better but I can assume that they were short on time.

Before take off I was asked by the crew whether I wanted to move to J since there was an open seat. I can only assume that they noticed I was P1 when checking the manifest.

No expectations from me and pleasantly surprised by the service recovery (if there was anything to recover from). 👍

Congrats on making P1 @_TheTraveller_ - good they moved you to J. Nice move.

One question from your story re the family and being asked to move for them - how did that happen? was that done in lounge/gate? or the crew on board or anyone from the family themselves? not really on topic for P1 for sure, but there are different ways to approach this so just curious.
Enjoy the white!

I was already in my seat when I was asked by the crew rather than the family. I think it might have been a party of 5-6 that was split up. I think some parents were separated from their children so it only made sense for me to move to keep the families together. Things seemed a bit frantic because I think they boarded almost last and the crew were trying to get them seated. This was less of an op-up but crew discretion.

On the topic of P1 "whites", funnily enough I've found that the white distinction is very difficult for crew and lounge staff to recognise. 3 flights and not once I was I greeted with "welcome back" which was far more consistent when I was WP. Had a lounge dragon almost deny me two guests in the lounge as well since she I thought I was OWE rather than P1. 😂 I had to point it out!

Has anyone but me noticed that 'P1' or for that matter 'P' is non existent by recognition on Qantaslink? All I get are blank stares which begin at the service counter and with complete continuity are carried all the way through to crew.
Update re Bris-Mackay 737 service, I am now batting 6/6 upgrades off a variety of fares from Red e deal to flex. Happy to be P1!!

Firstly good effort in gaining P1. In some of the US AA lounges the staff have taken a closer look at the white card and contemplated if I should be granted access if this happens point out the OW green oval and they will let you in. This has happened on more than one occasion and normally the lounge staff response was something along the line of we have not seen a white card before. One AFFers I know said just tell them it is the QF version of Concierge Key and they would just waive you through.

@arrow a few years back the P1 boarding pass on the phone was basically the silver background with a Roo that I seem to recall was black and Platinum One in red under it, this then changed to a red Roo with the same text (I maybe wrong and just do not remember). Over the years the background has become lighter and agree for some it can be difficult to distinguish the difference, see here it is not quite the topic but similar.

Maybe they'd be better off forgetting shades of precious metals and just going with the purple that is used on the OBMs' Red App? At least it would clearly stand out!

Any tips in trying to get 1 seat released for AU-UK on QF1?

Seats do seem wide open but it's a Friday. I tried F but apparently no luck. What are people's strategies for requests?

Was it rejected on the phone or did it go to manual review?

I tried via email last night and said no go for 2 dates. I also tried calling tonight but apparently the computer was down. Said I would hear back later this morning.

Would suggest calling during VIP team hours to firstly confirm you're speaking with someone onshore.

This level of availability in all classes looks likely to be a full year out, and if they're saying no to a single F seat for a P1 on an F9A6 inventory 11+ months, even after a few possible dates.. well.. it feels like HUACA is worth trying.

There may be blackout periods for European summer holidays, as another factor to consider.

The request was for late October this year. Post school holidays.

I'll give them a call again today.

I tried (back in Feb) for a seat (F or J) released for the end of this month with similar loads showing on EF back then. Was told hard no for release of any seats to Europe via SIN for whole of June/July due to expected Europe summer season/Ashes. Requested the long way (via US) instead and got seats. Worth considering.
